So what are peoples thoughts on the audio side of things?
Looking to discuss game audio in general...

Your favourite sounding cars, audio effects you like or even don't like and perhaps to help report/improve any audio related issues/bugs.

So far I am mostly impressed by the quality of audio effects. Okay having been limited to only a couple of days play thus far but really enjoying the immersion added by the games audio factor.

Do you find it is too digitised sounding? Seen some comments mentioning this but what's your thoughts?

I've played most this far, just doing single races tinkering the wheel settings and driving with the BMW Z4 GT3 (ohh man that exhaust). Also enjoyed the rumble and bottoming out effects with Formula B at Watkins Glen. Yet I feel some sounds are lost in the mix or overpowered by others.

What is annoying and I REALLY wish that we had MORE user control of individual audio effects volumes.

Why oh why SLIGHTLY MAD do we ONLY have a paltry 2 sliders for general audio "Engine & FX" adjustments. Yet graphics and control options, these are in galore and total abundance!

Personally believe the audio department has overlooked the customisation the game so proudly promotes itself on and hoping for more customisation in the future being added.

Who would like volume/sliders to cover for example:

  • Tyre Squeel & Brake Noise
  • Bumps & Rumble Strips
  • Engine & Exhaust
  • Crash Bangs & Bottoming
  • Other car volumes
  • Environment noises (crowds / tunnels)

This. I'm hoping it comes in a later update. I'd like to be able to turn down some of the ambient noises and turn up the tire noise, which is too low for me and something I really key in on for car control.

Yes I agree tyre noise/squeal are important effects that seem too low or get drowned out at times.
I just wasn't sure if it was related to only a few cars I have tried.

What sounds/cars do you like though?

To tell you the truth I haven't been paying much attention to the sounds:lol:. I've only driven a few cars and they all sound great, Ariel Atom Supercharged, SLS AMG GT3, Z4 GT3, Formula A, Zakspeed Capri and BAC Mono. They all sound very aggressive and completely different, a really welcome change. :sly: I'm not one to compare cars to their real life counterparts and microanalyze, I just want cars to sound like real cars, with the myriad of intake and exhaust sound, turbos and superchargers, cabin noises, tires, transmissions etc. and so far everything is great except for the tire noise. Mostly I've been trying to figure out both tuning and FFB and my focus has all be on getting the right feel for cars by balancing the FFB forces. I've discovered my G27 is probably not up to the task and I'll be looking for a T300 pretty soon:scared:

It seems that several of the cars I have driven sound very similar, kinda of a generic sound while it is better than many of the ones on GT6 it is still lacking and doesn't seem very realistic.

I do like the way the RUF RGT 8 sounds and the Sauber

We definitely need more sliders for sound. Need to turn up tire sounds without turning up unwanted effects.
Also desperately need a way to turn down the sound on that demo video or disable it completely. I think right now that is the most annoying part of the game for me. I stop playing for a few minutes and that video kicks in and it is louder than anything in my races resulting in me having to turn down the tv or click to stop the demo then I get into another race and forget to turn the set back up and can't hear my car.

Some of the other effects were getting to me, there was some loud sound that happened either when you entered an event or left it that was far to loud. I managed to turn that down somehow but not sure exactly how, possibly had to turn down the tire sounds at the same time but it was a problem.

Some cars are very hard to tell when the rpm gets closer to max and/or they hit the rev limiter where as others are easy to tell from the sound.

All in all the sound is pretty good but less than I expected from what people had been saying leading up to the game.

The sounds in general are great but I agree about the lack of settings for specific sounds.
The tannoy and crowd could do with being lowered a bit while the tyres are often too quiet. Coming from GT6 I never thought I'd say that...

Also I have a question. I believe what I'm hearing is the transmission but I'm not sure. Anyway, the P1 (listen to it with the chase cam at mid to lower speeds) makes that very mechanical noise I would expect to hear only in race cars. Or am I just plain wrong? (I hope I'm describing it correctly)

Where's the sound of the air hitting the car the faster you go? Is it even in this game?

The brakes sound rather odd on some of the cars. I was driving the 1 Series BMW and joking with my brother than the brake pads were worn out on it as you could hear them rubbing the rotors when you apply the brake.

I don;t know about the M series BMW but I know that in my real life cars the only time you ever hear the brake pads are either when the car has been setting and there is a little rust on the rotor or the pads are in need of replacement either to to wear or being crystallized.

Agree about the tannoy and environmental effects they can be a bit too loud over the tyre sounds.
You guys refer to GT6 . I would say that GT6 does seem to have much clearer stereo separation for the tyres on kerbs and opponents when alongside.

Just an example but I can clearly feel tyres on rumble strips better in GT6 (quad tactile config on seat)
Not sure if this is just with limited cars I have tried so far used or the issue that tyre/sounds are too low?

Maybe we need to go to the official forums and voice our opinions.
If they get enough interest peraps it is something that can be done? Just seems a shame USERS cannot tweak and adapt the audio output more to their tastes/set-ups.

I'm new to PS4 (bought for this game) so wondering if their are any games that are a good example of offering multiple volume sliders for audio effects?

Will check out the P1 but yeah please do guys start listing cars that sound the best...

for comparison, Driveclub launched with hardly any audio options, was pretty bare, then after some months they finally added dB adjustments for AI cars, player cars, environmental stuff... so give it time. fan feedback should always be welcomed by the devs and changes do happen. i think this game will be quite different in a few months.

Don't race cars have brake squeal?

Being able to control wheel and other sounds separately will really help with the tactile on the PS4. As I understand it, tactile works really well with Simvibe on pc as much of the feel of the curbs is channeled through tactile vs the steering rack.

Yes I noticed this, it's the other game I currently own, lol.

I noticed the sounds of the brakes like a change of pad is due, metal grinding-sounds like the road cars, Audi R8 etc

An option to transfer sounds/audio (pit) out of DS4 to normal sound, as I often wear headphones at night to keep the noise down but can't hear the pit guy (everyone else can lol)...turned him down to 10% now.

Edit: Went in to main PS4 settings and turned down controller sound to 0..I now have intermittent pit voice through headphones but not every time.

I also can hear digitized sound at higher volume (like too much mid eq) and feel the crash sounds are far too loud in comparison to the cockpit sounds so makes me jump if I hit a barrier etc crash bangs etc.. So more audio options (sliders) would be great. But overall the sound is nice and clear and real loud raw engines, gear changes, turbos etc so certainly not a negative just need tweaking in the next few updates similar as said above by community pressure. 👍

The engine sounds are fantastic in my opinion :D, while watching a stream of a Le Mans race with the Audi LMP1, I noticed that SMS had excellently executed the sound of the car's bodywork hitting the pavement down the bumpy straights, goes to show you how detailed and perfected this game truly is :)

I wouldn't mind if the opponents were little a louder. Especially when going past you. I can hardly tell sometimes that someone is chasing me.

DriveClub has a really great sound design for this, If I recall correctly.

I think it is worth mentioning that the road cars like focus,a.e., are updates with better braking pads, discs, lines otherwise you would the brakes pretty fast. Hence the sounds, I guess

Does anyone else hear like a short crackling sound when shifting with some cars? I've noticed it in some GT3 cars. I'm using the Astro A40 headset so my sound is very detailed and clear.

perhaps it's the audio frequencies? i have a decent pair of Sennheisers that handle the most brutal of metal and everything else, but this game can make them crackle at times. think it's just the frequency response & compression technique they used. or do you mean the actual sound effects?

I play with a headset as well, and some races everytime I change gear I hear a 'crackling' sound, like when you pull out the audio jack of a stereo or something. Really annoying. Large grids and higher volume seem to make it worse

Has anyone managed to get Pit sound when using a DS4 from DS4 speaker to headphones?

I have tried this and get some but not all sound -I get "go go go"! now but not 'in race' commands

>exited PCars press PS button
>Settings on main PS4 screen
>Devices
>Controllers
>Volume control (speaker for Controller)-Slide to 0 (off)
>came out of settings went back into Pcars or restart game change pit to 100%

Lol

Proof that some people are never statisfied. Finally , after years of atrocious sounds from recent GT games. PC comes along offer - imo . The most authentic sounding title on the console market.

And what do people start doing... Moaning about the volume.

On a serious it is a tad loud. Im having to turn my TV volume to 1 because I'm afraid I might disturb the neighbours lol. Even with the volume at 1 it sounds loud

Engine sounds are great unless you use chase cam like some of us older folk:irked: It disappears briefly at times, and the engineers instructions are all muffled meaning the only way to understand what he's waffling is to try and read it in time.........awful!:yuck:

I have a pair of headphones that I plug into the ds4 and everything runs through them.
