I'm not even getting involved with the controller debate, my videos against AI @ 100-120 skill/100 aggression in all sorts of cars & weather says enough.

I will agree with you about the randomised weather though, it could be a lot more well.... Random :)

PCARS1 was literally painful to play with the DS4. No good for me for longer races. PCARS2 allows for a much more relaxed experience.

As for the weather system. I much prefer pc2's scripted than say ACC's. If I wanted a dry race with the ending rain I can do that in pc2. In ACC you only have randomized craziness like pc2 or a percentage probability where you can't control when or how long you get rain

RE the controller debate. It was terrible. Especially when I compare it to literally any other racing game/sim and killed all the fun. And SMS know it.

Edit: Changed ‘you’ to I to better reflect this as my experience.

Literally any other racing game? Literally?

Literally. By the meaning that I have not played another racing game that I find as unplayable on a controller. That’s not hard to comprehend is it?

Unless you’re mocking the use of the word or my language? Where literally means to describe something that actually happened, in this case, project cars 2 being utterly terrible on a pad being a real thing and there being nothing, that I’ve played, being worse also being a real thing. Therefore literal. 👍

Trying to play racing sims with joypad is like trying to sail without sails.
Just buy a wheel, so the devs can do better things then wasting time on joypad steering emulation implementation.

Well if people don’t have the space for wheels and setups or don’t have the money to invest in it then why should they, the mass market, miss out? Never mind people who have physical challenges to overcome.

Comments like this never cease to amaze me in their ignorance.

That's different from how you first phrased it: "when you compare it to literally any other racing game/sim". Your clarification is far more reasonable, of course.

I'm personally more comfortable with the steering in PCARS2 than Gran Turismo 4, the Dirt/CMR or Grid/TRD games, Need for Speed from HP2010 forward, Test Drive Unlimited, or The Crew 1. Not to mention PCARS1 or S2U. But those are subjective enough, as much as they can test my patience. And that's just steering, not physics -- which knocks more games down compared to my experience with PCARS2.

There are worse, though. There's Auto Modellista, the Tokyo Xtreme Racer series, Street Racing Syndicate or its pseudo-sequel The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift (PS2), and Driving Emotion Type-S to name a few more off the top of my head, without digging excessively far into the bargain bin, PS1/N64 and earlier titles (as well as handhelds/mobile), or shovelware kart racers.

There used to be a time when I would sample just about anything. Nowadays there's too much good stuff to be playing instead. :)

Indeed, perhaps I should have clarified that to show more it being my own findings and opinion.

And this is where you nail it totally, everyone’s mileage will vary in terms of what feels good or right with a pad. No two people will share the same experience across every game so it is personal to each individuals experience. I also think everyone will have their own benchmarks as to what feels good and what other games will be measured against and compared to.

The controller settings might not suit your driving style but there are people on a controller that come close to world records, there are people like me who were near the top of their league on a controller. Yes it takes some time to master it but I haven't changed a single thing on the settings when I was on a controller.

After two months on a wheel I have only just gotten to the point where I am just as fast with it. Yes there is still more upside but i strongly disagree with the fact that the game is unplayable, the difficulty level at which controller driving starts might be a bit high though, especially without assists in difficult to control cars

Hello fellow SIM racers. I'm sorry I've been out of SIM racing for about 2 years but starting to get back into it again. From what I've seen and googled project cars 3 is definitely something coming. I'm gonna read through all 6 pages of this form but can you summarize what we know so far? I really appreciate the input. What I'm hoping is that it really blows our socks off you know what I mean? Haven't been to GT planet in a minute and was hoping to get some fresh and exciting news about the upcoming Project cars 3. I was on the hype train since the 1st one and raced in several leagues. But life and work excels and takes more time away from the things we love. Now that I'm back on stable ground and have time again I wanna get back into it. I'll be looking for some leagues to join. Let's say I'm dipping my toe back into what I love. What we all love right? Thanks again for your input I really appreciate it.

I find PC2 perfectly fine with controller, I guess I'm used to it so it feels natural to me

It was given the "green light" about a year ago.
The simulation aspects will be improved over PC2
The game will be less sandbox than PC2 - presumably a more linear career mode - with an emphasis on fun (200% more fun ;)).
Plan is "to blow anything else, planned by anyone else, out of the water…"
Timescale "That will take a while."
To be more focused than PC2 - to this end no community/WMD involvement this time round
Quality - to be released when and only when its ready
Further improved (over PC2) driving with a controller

My speculation (not from Ian Bell) Given PC2 already pushed current consoles very hard in terms of hardware, and given PC3's aims are ambitious and release not to be rushed, the logical conclusion could be it is intended for the next generation of consoles, so launch in 2021?

I interpreted Ian's comments as meaning there will be more substance to the game than it predominantly being a mere sandbox, not that the game will offer less of a sandbox. 👍

It's called Project CARS Revolution.
There will be cars.
There will be tracks.
They're improving various things such as the controller input.
Will have some sort of structure to it. Unclear on what that means but I'm expecting a Shift-style buying your own cars.
Expected to not be either as much or at all WMD contributed.

Other than that, not much aside from speculation.
Next-gen consoles.

I've never, ever freely drifted laps around rallycross tracks in RX cars or roadcars like the GT86 or Evo VI for so long that I unintentionally ran out of gas. :)
I haven't even got around to any RX tracks yet, still to busy doing normal track/car combos :)

RX & Ice tracks come next, then I might actually get around to starting a career.

Getting class E/F/G roadcars dirty on the RX tracks, maybe in rain or on snow, is good fun! The RX Lite, Group B RXs, and Escort RX are nice too. 👍 The range of steering on the modern RX cars is a bit extreme for the analog stick steering, though not impossible (unlike, say, the Radbul).

Too bad the AI are quite timid in roadcars on the RX tracks, though I can't recall now if I ever tried them at maximum difficulty.

I really got into the RX Lite championship, (using controller), I think the handling is great, absolutely easy to throw the thing sideways and control the drift. Can't wait to continue playing more RX :)

I can't add anything about the next installment of Project Cars that hasn't already been said by others with more knowledge.

If you want to start league racing again there is a healthy league section on GTPlanet - click on the link below - there are also time trials with the CRAP Club / @HammyMansell - those also might fit the bill, especially if you are working your way back in. My series on Monday and Wednesday nights would probably not be suitable because of the time difference (20:30 GMT) but we welcome people of all speed levels from enthusiastic, but slow like me to people who are genuinely talented.

When is the soonest you think this game can be released? Milestone puts out games soon after announcement I hope next September..

Seeing as the PS5 isn't coming out until the holidays of next year, that's not happening. Don't expect it in 2020, I think. September 2021 doesn't sound completely barbaric to me.

We're all assuming, myself included, that it'll be "next gen" but has there been anything official about that? Such a long development cycle means no income for the same period. It also means that the millions of PS4s out there will be lost to them as potential sales. I expect the PS5 to be popular but it won't have the user base initially.

I should add that the same goes for the Xbox and its successor.

The PC is in continuous development, which probably causes its own problems.

I really hope is next gen only i just don't see what else they can do with the base ps4 :boggled: and even the pro.

And about the user base i really don't think that matters if pc3 is a good game then it'll sell just fine on next gen hardware.

Personally i'm so sure it'll be next gen only that if its not then i'll stop driving my p1 gtr in pc2 and i wont even touch it in pc3.
That's how sure i am
:)

You're right. We don't have anything official. But they've pushed the PS4 to the limit and it's expected to be released after the release of the next PS console. Which is why I'm treating it as that it will be.

This is why SMS will not release the next Project Cars for a long time yet on console.

Well yes I agree that with PC2. But let's assume they new find ways to optimise the code further, change the way they do things and maybe remove some other performance damaging features. They haven't been standing still since PC2, there's PC Pro they've developed
So maybe, just maybe this gen...

Look at GTS, I know it has fixed time and weather but pretty graphics, smooth fps, lots of eye candy on a PS4 (and VR in one mode). Now if SMS could get close with their enhanced physics etc.

if pc3 is a good game then it'll sell just fine on next gen hardware.
I'm sure that will be the case but for a company to make money the 108 million PS4s already out there is hard to ignore.
Although I'd like one I'm certainly not rushing into buying a PS5 straight away, if I got one I'd probably wait for a Pro version, if it were to come. So PC3 if it was PS5 only would be unavailable to me, at least initially.

I'm not arguing that I think it will be out "soon". I'm just thinking out loud. :dopey:
And regarding that (I have time on my hands this afternoon :)).

The PS5 is supposedly backwards compatible with the PS4 and also be able to be cross gen multiplayer capable, so that would open up the possibility of a larger user base/sales if PC3 were to be available for both platforms. Of course it maybe enhanced on PS5.

Personally i'm so sure it'll be next gen only that if its not then i'll stop driving my p1 gtr in pc2 and i wont even touch it in pc3.
I'll hold you to that. :P ;)
