Someone remind me why you guys are excited about this game. From that gameplay, it doesnt look too appealing.
I'm not excited as I'm not a big fan of arcade racing games, but I can see many reasons why others might be. Not only because the PGR series has a large loyal fan base, but because it offers many things that other driving games do not, including some great vehicles, unique courses, and what appears to be a really nice wide variety of weather conditions. 👍👍

As far as graphics, I agree, from what I've seen of actual gameplay it's nothing to get really excited about, but as has been pointed out, apparently what PGR fans love about the series is the arcade "fun" factor.

Besides the weather, for me, the thing that looks the most fun is the opportunity to have motorcycles and automobiles racing together. Sure, it's likely going to be very ‘arcadey’ (especially the annoying repetition of the rider's antics, especially when he keeps looking back and raising his fist), but if nothing more than the uniqueness of this option the game deserves extra credit.

I'm ever so happy to see some of the better cars coming back from PGR2, as I definitely missed my classic Camaros and Mustangs.
Yes, but the classics are still slim pickings... but what they have are undeniably excellent picks! Especially the Muira, but others as well... although how many of those twenty year old or older classics are new to the series? If that car list is correct, which I assume it is as it's from the developer, it looks like they cut more cars than they added.

And in terms of bikes?Harley FTW!
For me it has to be the Ducati 999R Xerox and the Paul Smart 1000 LE

Despite the small selection of bikes, what they have is still excellent:
  • BMW F 800 S
  • BMW K1200R
  • BSA Gold Star DBD34
  • Buell RR 1200
  • Ducati 998
  • Ducati 999R Xerox
  • Ducati Monster S4RS Testastretta
  • Ducati Paul Smart 1000 LE
  • Harley Davidson VR-1000
  • Honda CBR600RR
  • Honda NR750
  • Honda RC161
  • Kawasaki Ninja ZX-14
  • MTT Turbine Superbike
  • MV Augusta Brutale 910 R
  • MV Augusta F4 Senna
  • Norton 500 Manx
  • Suzuki GSX1300R Hayabusa Ltd
  • Suzuki GSX-R1000
  • Suzuki GSX-R600
  • Triumph Speed Triple
  • Triumph Trident
  • Yamaha YZF-R6

Digital-Nitrate, I take it you're not a fan of games like Ridge Racer or OutRun 2. If you were, you wouldn't be accusing PGR of being so heavily arcade-oriented. ;) PGR is more of an arcade/sim blend.

You're right, though -- it's all about how fun the game is. When realism isn't the developer's goal, I don't think it's entirely fair to judge a game based on how close to reality it is.

although how many of those twenty year old or older classics are new to the series?

Very few, if any at all. I recognized most of them as vehicles returning from either PGR2 or PGR3, but I could be mistaken. My only guess is that there will be more to be added later in downloadable packs, by which Bizarre always does a great job...

Is there some kind of law out there that says that if you're a videogame reviewer, you have to be unfathomably horrible at playing racing games, especially if you're making a video?

It doesn't help I suppose, but the flipping the bird or fist up on the bike repeatedly every time it passes a car just for the sake of doing it is a bit lame. :indiff:

PGR3 with Microsoft's X360 wheel - even it is not a wheel you could call a "wheel" by DFP standards, nor the PGR3 had a great support though - was a HUUUGE step-forward in terms of physics.

What was "arcadish" on controller became very much "simulationish" with the wheel. I can't wait to see the improvements they did in PGR4 regarding wheel force feedback support.

I'll also sustain from commenting the fact you'll actualy are going to be able to drive bikes with the wheel in PGR4 - which is not important now.

The intro is great, really boils it down to what the game is all about; Stupidly fast cars (and bikes!) in some the most awesome cities in the world, driving like madmen. I can't wait for this game!

My guess is that PGR4 and Halo 3 will effectively ruin my life. For a while...

Eurogamer
Bizarre Creations has very kindly told us what to expect from the Project Gotham Racing 4 Xbox Live demo - just as soon as it comes out of certification and lands on your Internet face.

The demo will consists of five vehicles (made up of cars and bikes), with a demo-only Arcade mode chapter set in Macau. This will consist of new challenges that have been custom-built for the demo.

Not content with that, they are throwing in a Nurburgring Snow Time Challenge - so you'll be able to see just how pretty the track (rebuilt for PGR4) looks when it's blanketed in snow. The snowy Time Attack also includes full leaderboard support.

The full game, for which our final-build hands-on will go live oh-so-shortly, splits single-player gameplay between Arcade (128 medals from Steel up to Platinum) and Career (difficulty pre-set by user, then a season of races and events).

And of course it has lots of Internet play, with a greater focus on Friends-based leaderboards and tournaments that are suitable for players of all skills, rather than the "best in the world or nowt" mentality of old.

Sounds rather good, no? We'll let you know when it's up there.

PGR4 is due out exclusively on 360 on 12th October.

Wow there are some goods ones one there although they are missing some key bikes. No Ducati 1098? Yamaha R1? Any Apralia's?

I'd bet that they may show up in a download pack, hopefully with a few more Buells as well. Still, I'm just so happy that they've got Harley in the game...

I'll have it Wednesday I'm sure. Hopefully I won't suck at it like I did PGR3/2/1/MSR.

Well, I wasn't that bad at MSR.

Wow wow wow... PGR is cool again, I hadn't much bothered looking into this thread as I just remembered the retardation that was 170 MPH + rule they used in PGR3.

Good car list, good track list, weather, pretty graphics... win and win. XBOX 360 pulls further ahead of the PS3 for my next gen console, and is almost tied with Wii in game count.

Now I'll just have to hear some of the opinions of the people here, but I always liked PGR and PGR2, so I doubt I'll have issues here with the "slower" cars coming back.

You need to add the European release date, which is the 12th of October.

OK, thanks for reminding me.

Yeah, from what I've heard, it's more like PGR2 than anything when it comes to racing. Definitely better than PGR3.

Lame. The release date is today per every gaming website yet no store has it...today was the ship date. That's one irritating thing if you ask me.

Sorry to hear this, but I am annoyed at how long I have to wait before I can get the game.

Ya my Future Shop and Best Buy didn't have it. Toys R Us said they'll have it in 2 days or so, so we'll see. I should have the game by Friday.
