They're back. Now pushing on cold tires and spinning to prove that the game sucks.

It's been quite a while since I've seen any of his videos but I'm disappointed at what appears to me, to be a little sleight of hand. Let's explain to new people why it's important to warm up tires before you go hard

I don't know much about the YouTuber reviewers at all really, but I'd assume this guy(?) isn't a seasoned sim racer with years of experience? He wouldn't pick a hypercar and rev the balls out of it on cold tyres if so. At least I'd hope not. I assume he's used to something more "Arcade".

Unless of course there is an agenda, you know the clicks, likes etcetera.

Edit. I've just looked him up and he would seem to know what he's doing. If you know what I mean.

All the sudden it's supposed to be easy and you shouldn't have to setup a car? They never marketed this like that at all.
It has to be easy to get into or it won't sell. If it's supposed to be a hardcore sim and nothing else, why push it on consoles at all?
'Easy' isn't really what I said I wanted anyway. Less complicated, less hassle. Having loads of setup settings/variables with NO descriptions/explanations in game makes no sense at all. It's not even clear which apply to pads/wheels/both. And not allowing buttons to be remapped is crazy.

I've just spent a couple of hours driving the MX5 with stock setup, pad and base PS5.
30 mins at Lime Rock, new track to me, easy track, car drove ok but front left tyre was bright red within about 5 laps. Stock tyres are hard so thought that odd.
30 mins at Bathurst, familiar from GT, all ok except coming down mountain, fishtail alley.
1 hr at Nords, again familiar from GT7, wow, absolute heaven. Tempted to suggest stock setup for this car is set for this track.

Pop-in shading on trees is pretty apparent everywhere, gives a 'parting of the Red Sea' vibe as you drive along. Distracting.

Also, to others coming to this game from GT7 rather than coming the other way from sims, corner entry speed is important, you cannot go in hot and expect to get around. Ditto for abusing the grass verges, where GT lets you get away with putting a tyre or two off track at Nords, for example, this game doesn't.

Over all, FUN, but I think it'll be a case of spending a few days with an individual car, learning it and racing it before moving on to the next. Like real life maybe. Jumping from muscle to kei to Gr3 in one sitting in GT7 is easy. Jumping from class to class in PMR will require practice and patience.

I don't even think it looks that bad, sure it's no Gran Turismo, but YouTube does it no favours. It looks far better actually playing.

I think it would have been mixed, rather than wholly negative. It still has problems but some of the key things are now significantly improved and much more stable.
This is how I felt and still feel about PC2.
See, man. People keep saying it looks arcadey, but it's not when actually driving the game. The videos don't do PC2 justice.

The graphics can't compare to GT, but that's not what this is about. When "behind the wheel", the sounds bring all the senses to alert status. I'm listening to the ear piercing engine, the tyre squeal isn't as dramatic as it sounds on YouTube. The vision out of the windscreen, trying to sight my braking markers and apex and where cars are.

I'm making mistakes, yes, but correcting and paying attention to how the car behaves(especially driving any vintage race and road car), this game does well. And I use a DS4(or XB1 controller, when I'm on that system).

The videos in this thread, give them a chance. I know people upset with previous games are sceptical, within reason. I get all that. Still, those of us that have made the game work, even with flaws, see what SMS have done with what we're given.

I play more GTS than PC2. Mostly for jumping in online play and to watch prettier replays. However, when doing races like the video above, SMS have gotten it right. If Ian is saying PC3 is more of PC2, but better, I'm looking forward to it.

Is what I said below what PMR is?
Just tell me it’s a hi-res PC2 with controller feel similar to ACC out of the box. I’m fine with that.

Should be a good week of console racing for me. :)

They cram so much realistic features in the game though. Something has to be scaled back for consoles. We see it with the past PC games and AC franchise.
Yeah might not be the game for me then. I didn’t think PC2 was too bad. I guess I was just expecting it to be better. Could be YouTube making it look worse. I’ll never forget AC on console. Got it on sale, load it up, what the? Brutal! Haha. I haven’t seen much PC footage that has even enticed me much either though. Especially the replays.

I reluctant with the first AC and then the experience was wow. Seems like the same thing with PMR. Until I experience it, watch this space, I’ll having these ups and downs in this week of my posts.

Seriously though, it’s another take a breath moment for me.

I think I’m just going to wait it out and grab it on a big sale. Maybe try to get it for $50. If the YouTube videos are doing the game any graphical favours, perhaps they should do a trial version so we can see for ourselves running on console and on a 4K tv.

Just bought. Downloaded. Picked GT4. Didn’t touch any settings other than it asking how I wanted to play. I chose Pro. AI was default to 90.
I have been lapping most the cars testing the controller after the update, the AI seem to be much more aware after a few quick trials, all cars seem to drive good on controller now even the top classes apart from the GT4 cars which seem to spin out when you brake like the 911 GT3 Cup used to but this is now much better.

GT4

  • Improved default setups to all GT4 cars based on player feedback.

So it seems they changed all the set ups of GT4- can anyone else test them on controller I couldn't get round the track back end slid out even swapping all tyres and messing with the set ups.
Just uploaded a video of my first 15 minutes of initial play. Didn’t have a problem driving the GT4 Mustang with controller.

I’m gon’ say this, my money was well spent.

The haptics are good. I just used knowledge from normal racing of go out slow. Feel the car. Do so accelerating and braking to get heat into tyres and brakes. Cruise around and understand a track I never raced on and take my time in the default 10 minute practice session.
I chose to use the gentlemen driver GT4 as it has all the aids and the categories cars should be easy to drive out the box. It was so.

Graphics are fine. Just like a much sharper PC2. Too much highlighting and contrast, but it’s fine. Doesn’t look like crap. The cars look good. The sounds are, as many have mentioned, sweet. Touching the squeaky brakes gives me an indicator to take care and that realism is cool.

In one of my offs, because I kept misjudging a corner at Mosport, it’s gradual and has a sense of being out of control, but in a controlled way. Didn’t feel cartoonish or like I was on ice. It was more like ohhh I can feel the hit coming, but, I didn’t hit the wall. The stop was like a real race car seen on tv.
I was facing the other way and held the brake and nailed the throttle. I had the feeling through the haptics and the visual of the rear squatting and a really cool controlled spinning of the tyres to get me around. That’s a nice detail. Good initial 15 minutes.

Moved to qualifying and I got a bit more familiar with the course. Still went slow, but put a bit more pepper in the corners to be smoother. Nice. Had a couple more spins, but I stayed off the racing lines when AI approached and I had no problems in both sessions with the AI. I’m 5 seconds from P15 and P1 is at a 1:23 to my 1:30 cautious paced set time.

Good game so far. Looking forward to trying the 964 and the RX-7.

Does the new patch help? I’m reading it does and lmdh feels better and controller better, should I give it ago 🤔 really hope they keep it up and fix it maybe a free pack saying hey we screwed up 🤞

Here's a quick video showing some of the AI improvement. These opening laps would not have been possible pre patch. Wouldn't have made it last turn 3 unscathed. All was going well until squeezed the M3 a bit too much and got clipped as it tried to avoid the barrier. Good fun.

Was this on a controller and what system? Seems like the AI was on the easier difficulty side, you blew past many of them without too much fight.

I'm glad I waited until tonight to test the wheel out, just had a few hours of really good fun driving various car/track combos. Only got punted a couple of times but I actually had some good races.

Wish the resolution and opponent counts were higher, and I've had to turn the FFB down quite a lot in my T300 to stop the strange clipping/buzzing sensation but all in all I'm quite pleased with the game atm.

Got some laps in tonight with the new update. It's MILES better than before, but still needs a ton more work.

I still am trying to get a good feel of the FFB on my Fanatec CSL Elite wheel (on PS5). Haven't quite found the sweet spot yet despite messing with nearly all the settings (both global and on the individual cars). Although, the FFB does seem to be more consistent and responsive after the update. Hypercars are now at least somewhat drivable, but they are still far from how they should feel. The other cars from GT3 on down feel slightly better, but still could use some work.

All in all, a really good first step at fixing the game. Hopefully, these types of updates continue to be rolled out and continue to make the game feel better.

They told us from the conception of this game that they wanted to make a sim. They wanted to push the boundaries of what a simulation can be. All the sudden it's supposed to be easy and you shouldn't have to setup a car? They never marketed this like that at all.
I think the issue some are having is that this marketed heavily as a sim, & it's coming up a bit short of what other sims have accomplished. Folks are jumping into other sims just fine & managing, but PMR seems to have some gremlins that will arise even if you setup the car.

James Baldwin has a video out where he's pretty neutral on the game for the most part; there's things he likes, things he thinks are off like the sound of the M4. His noticeable complaint however, was the fact of how much slip you can abuse throughout the car. For his example, he drove the M4 at Spa like he would in real life with a 2:17.6. He notes it's a bit slower than real life, but ok. He then did a lap driving like he would on PC2, TC off, & got a 2:16.8, over driving the car. In real life, he noted driving like that should be a 2:20 & you would be reprimanded by your team for driving the car in that fashion, adding the only thing that stops you is the tire temps keeping you from doing that in a race every lap. But, the fact he could still slam the brakes, full lock the steering & still make the apex, didn't sit with him.

He concludes that it can feel right once you set up the car & the connection between the tires and the road is good under the limit. But, once you load the tires up & drive over the limit, the feeling becomes vague & he can't feel where the car is underneath him, regardless. That's an issue I've seen brought up multiple times from sim racers so far; they don't hate the game, but it's got work to do for something that had a lot of hype going in.

But it’s boring!
So is spinning out in the same RWD car again and again because you can't have assists on in a time trial, the only mode worth playing at the mo due to poor AI and framerate. (SX) Gone back to Forza M the same week of buying it.

They did say performance is the next improvement they're looking at, so hopefully that includes the consoles. 🤞

Bought the game today and decided to give Mosler MT900R a spin on the Authentic Difficulty.
This has got to be one of the easiest cars in the game to drive with a controller. Managed to get my first pole position and win at Monza.
