Interesting factoid, there are two racks in the boot which hold removable lead weights. In the dry the weights are removed, but in the wet they are installed to increase the weight of the rear of the car on damp/slippery surfaces to increase the traction available when on throttle. When competing drivers over here saw it, it started a trend of people running with their spare wheels in the boot to give extra rear end grip and alter the balance of the car. :)

Is this the HKS or Driftworks S15? It's interesting to know that Julian owns the HKS S15 too, I've often wondered where it got to :) And for those that don't know, the guy who has these two cars is one of the best drifters in Europe, so if he can't tame the ER34, not many can!

It's the HKS car which has the facility for lead weights, I was just saying that until Driftworks built theirs, it was the best S15 on the planet.

He doesn't own the HKS car, he just drove it a few times for them, it's now been sold and turned into a time attack car :(

He has tamed it, but it took a while. And yeah, he's damn good, but he's never beaten me ;) LOL

lol, arguing about awd and fr. what is important is the driving skills.

So as the topic of this thread said, The Ultimate drift machine.

Anyone that always stick to one car for drifting is his/hers ultimate drift machine.

So i share mine, i use Ae86 gt-apex SS version to drift all the time at tsukuba circuit with randomly selected online drift room.

Will share my setup if anyone want it.

Specs would be much apriciated, nabbed this car as soon as I spotted it in the used lot just as a drift toy, having drifted it in other games, and having few cars relative to my e30 to feel and style etc. its my choice car.

Ahh right, I never knew that :) Just reminded me of the ballast you could add to your car in GT4. Not appeared in GT5 yet.

That's pretty disappointing actually. At least it'll be forver immortalised in Gran Turismo 5! :)

And it's just clicked that he's tamed it, it was in the JDM Donington Promo vid :) Is that just like I've never been beaten my Lewis Hamilton at F1 though? Hahaha.

Indeed he was. Not really the same though, I drift with Julian most saturday nights ;)

Alright alright, no need to rub it in! Haha :)

It's really starting to sound like this is Julian:

And this is you:

I don't suppose you have a spare drift car for a failing student to use do you? Haha :D

Edit: This has probably been dragged off topic enough now. What we've found is 4WD cars aren't the 'Ultimate Drift Machine' and the HKS RS1 is.

This has become a very intesting thread and I would honestly like to hear more about various drivers and their cars if you have more to share :)

Of course I have, what would you like to know? :)

Honestly just anything at all haha. I haven't followed professional drifting for a while actually, so it's just interesting for me to hear about the drivers and their individual styles, how they have their cars setup.

Anyone you feel stands out, whoever you happen to have a lot of experience with. I know it's not particularly original, but Nomuken was always my favorite driver and you already mentioned him :p

My Top 3 are:

From Japan: Tetsuya Hibino
When he last drove over here Tetsuya Hibino drove his own street S14 in the D1 Exhibition Match and his backwards entries were insane. He wasn't using modified steering knuckles and he pulled off bearly every single one! But then I suppose you have to be seriously talented to do what he manages to do in a Corolla.

From UK/Ireland: James Deane (and not just because he's a mate LOL)
He's a SAVAGE driver, he was Irish Pro-Drift champion at 19 and won his first event while still only 18 and driving a near stock S14. Soooooo fast in whatever he's driving, just a very natural driver who's father was very big in Irish rallying. He's also done a few rounds of Formula D this year with Team Falken in their S15. He qualified for top 32 at every round of FD that he did (three i think) in a car he'd practically never driven (a BIG achievement in FD).

From Poland: Pawel Trela
Do searches on youtube for him, the guy is so smooth it looks like he's not even trying and yet he/his car can hold the most ridiculous angles you've ever seen as well as also being incredibly fast like Deane

I could go on forever about guys from across europe who will make you redefine what you think is possible with a car.

Here's a few other top drivers in Europe to note:

Jakub Skomorucha (Poland), drives a seriously nice AE86 with a Mitsubishi Evo engine (350bhp), consistant on an epic scale. Second in Polish Pro series this year.

Maciek Bochenek (Poland), drives an R33 GTS-T (480bhp), won the Polish series this year, massively fast. Won Polish Pro series this year.

Dan Chapman (UK), drives an S13 with SR20 (450bhp), very fast ex-karter and Formula Ford racer in his youth. Second in JDM AllStars in 2009 and 2010.

Ben Broke-Smith (UK), R32 with 1JZ (550bhp), crazy angles and has a tendancy for mega entries. Won EDC in 2008.

Remmo Niezen (NL), E30 with M5 V8 (500bhp), not particularly quick, but crazy consistant and as smooth as Trela. Won JDM Allstars 2009.

Paul Vlasblom (NL), E36 Touring with 3.0 M3 straight six(380bhp), another very fast drifter, but known for brake checking during battles, he LOVES playing games. Multiple Dutch champion.

And not amazing yet, but someone definately worth keeping an eye on is Duane McKeever from Northern Ireland, he's only 14 (might be 15 by now) but has competed in JDM Allstars since the middle of 2009 (when he was only 13). He needs a little more experience at battles, but he actually qualified 1st at our Wembley event in July! He drives an 800bhp S13 with RB26 engine and you'd never know he hadn't been doing it for decades.

Hope that's the sort of thing you meant, I'll go into a few of the cool cars that I know of tomorrow, but it's friday night and I need some sleep LOL :)

Yes! Until I saw him at Donington in JDM I hadn't even heard his name mentioned before and I couldn't figure out why! He was amazing that day, from where I was standing he was getting bigger angles than Phil, which is no mean feat! He just got an unlucky draw against Dan in the semis. But then he only went on to win at Wembley!

Exactly the kind of thing I was meant :) And greatly appreciated.

Do you have any experience with Katsuhiro Ueno?

Off topic much?

Not really, I would think that pro drivers cars and setups would be at least somewhat linked to the topic of "the ultimate drifting machine."

Yep, we've already discussed how some cars can be set up for one particular driver (Nomura's ER34, and Trela's 180SX apparently) or for an easy drive like the HKS RS2.

Do you have any experience with Katsuhiro Ueno?
Yeah, he was at both exhibition matches. He's a very good driver but not one of the best.

Sorry not been on today to talk about cars as had some family over. I'll be back on later :)

Sorry if you think it's off topic Nk4e, I thought talking about real world cars was kind of relevent.

He's lucky enough that his father also drifts (an LS15) and owns the team they both drift for. What I'd give to be in his shoes!

His dad doesn't drift LOL His dad owns McKeever Motor Spares, the team sponsor. The other car, the S15 with supercharged LS6 is owned and driven by Alan 'Chubby' McCord. Another interesting fact: is possibly the most powerful S15 in the drift world. When last dyno'd, it had five people sitting in the boot trying to increase traction, yet the car still span the wheel enough to smoke the tyres and STILL registered over 780bhp, meaning the true total is likely somewhere between 850 and 950bhp!!!

In answer to the other question, you don't have to have a road licence to compete in motorsport, you just have to proove youa re safe and can handle a car, and I think that vid shows that he can handle a drift car ;)

Does he not? I could've been sure it was him who drove the S15! My bad :)

Edit: The reason I thought his dad owned both cars was that I thought the team was called McKeever Motorsports, not Motor Spares. It's the graphics on the side of the car's fault, not clear enough! Haha :P

And I'd heard that the S15 was spinning it's wheels on the dyno but I didn't know it was smoking it's tyres too. That's mental!
