Broke the other day:nervous:

The laser part which allows the laser to move up and down broke off and The laser can't move at all without it...

heres some pics...

So basicly the silver piece with the white tip is what is broken. At first the white piece would grab onto the treads on the motor that spins. So I was playing around with it and now it is completely broken off:dunce:

any ideas on what I can do?

If you just have to keep this one, box it up and send it to Sony or if $150 isn't too expensive for you, get a new one.

umm buy a used one from game crazy or a store like it (a used one should cost around $70-90). but if you are hard pressed for money then sorry I don't think it can be fixed

so basicly its garbage now correct?

Thats a bummer:grumpy:

tomorrow I'm going to head to EB games and see how much they charge for a used ps2 there...

The whole laser unit can be taken out by unclipping the metal plate covering the cogs at the top of the 2 steel rods that the laser moves up and down on .. when you have taken it out you will see the screws under the laser unit that are holding the little arm that has snapped in place! .. unscrew it and take it off completely!
Hopefully you have an account on Ebay or know someone who does ... Go on ebay and buy an old broken ps2 in auction as cheap as possible and salvage the part from that and fix it into position back on your laser and put it back together and voila! ... one fixed ps2 ;)
Keep the broken PS2 for any other future parts you may need 👍

If you have no Ebay account or access to one then keep hold of your ps2 until you hear of someone with a broken one and offer them a couple of £££ to take it off their hands and then get to work salvaging the part to repair yours .. quick and easy fix guaranteed :)

Good luck with it 👍

No probs mate :) If you really struggle with the above options then hit me with a pm with address details and I'll send you the replacement arm that will fix it, UK to Canada might take a week or so but its another option eh;)
I have a cupboard with 11 spare broken PS2's that I use to fix Family / Friends and my own PS2's as needed

It seems like a lot of my friend's PS2s are going down lately... I swear there must be something in them that Sony triggers to make them break... coincidentally just as they release the PS3 :odd: .

I had the same problemb with my 1st two playstation 2's
the first two were the origonal model
now i got the small one and im not having any problembs yet
seems like it doesnt have that problemb
so if i were you, i'd but a new ps2(the small one)
