PS2 Controller button sensitivity

I have a decently new Sony PS2 Dual Shock Contoller that seems to be getting weak. The gas (X) button slowly needed to be pushed harder and harder, until now I have to mash it all the way into the controller in order to fully accelerate. This makes my thumb bend upward at a harsh angle and cramp quickly. Has anyone else ever had this happen to them and is their a way to take it apart and fix it. I do not want to have to buy ANOTHER controller. Please give any advise that you can.

Take it apart, check the springs etc, but make a note of how it goes back together. I know some people here routinely take their controllers apart. Anyone?

there are no springs lol, but u can try to take it apart and clean the buttons and the connections between the button and the sensor

This may or may not help, But I will say I prefer the older controller, I recently bought a new controller and found that you have to really push hard on the buttons to get them to works, So I cheated, I got my old controller and swapped out both Dual shock motors from the new one (The dual shock motors in my old hand piece had stopped working) Gave it a quick clean and tidy up and I'm very happy with the result, Old familiar button feel with all the bump and thump of the the new controller.
Took me a while to mod the case of the older control to suit the larger motor on the new DS2's but it works like a treat. 👍

Just open you controller, i do it all the time on one of mine that is like junk or something, the L2 button always sinks into the controller.

What you do is take it apart and take the circuit board off the top half of the controller shell, the buttons should either fall off, or be semi-stuck to their respective openings, in either case you make sure nothing is wrong with the rubber mat and the magnets that are on it where the buttons push on. Then just put it back together.

i dont really see how the normal buttons can get messed up, but you may find the circuit board has shifted or something.

When putting your controller back together, watch how the r1 r2 l1 l2 buttons go back, you need to get the edges into a certain track and still have the magnets line up. It took me a while when I took my controller apart. On a side note, you get much better throttle modulation with the DFP pedals.

Tokyo Xtreme Racer was harsh for this as well.

If it's a new controller, just deal with it.

It will break itself in with use.

Ps2 pads are god awful for racing games, my thumb has to mash the x button for ages, and it ends up aching. Gimme spongy triggers any day.

I've noticed that the controllers for the U.S PS2 lack some quality compared to the JP version. That's just me though ...
