I have Original Messiah II chip, so does it work with it?
Ok no offence but are you blind. JBR-Man said read his signature for the answer. But here is the outtake - "SONY Playstation 2 SCPH 50001 V10 w/ Original Messiah II (working like made specially for GT4)"

I've got the Magic v3.1 mod chip and I cant seem to get the NTSC version to load. And it seems to freeze my controller too.

:grumpy:
With the game already inserted, press and hold restart to power on your ps2, and release it when the Sony screen comes up. Does that help?

Even with the dual layer of GT4, will a backup work with the magic swapdisk? What program did you all use to make a back up? nero, alcohol 120..? thanx

No. People tried with the Asian copies for 2 months with no luck. Swap magic won't work. Nobody has ripped it to dvd5 yet due to encryption on VOL files. It won't work with HDLoader because HDLoader doesn't support DVD9. The Asian copies seemed to have code that directly referenced the 2nd layer, so squashing it to a single layer ISO doesn't work with HDLoader.

This thread was for people who imported a copy but found out that some mod chips won't read dvd9. We all bought the game. Except for HK Silvers, no backup has ever worked before.

Need some advice for mod chip for Imports
PS2 (north american 35001 - The original GT3 Racing Pack...

What would you guys think is best on the market right now?
I never had a problem with it, only had to clean the lense once for some DVD skippage...And i have huge collection of games but i just recently started trying to accumulate all of the diffrent versions of GT Pal,Jp,US so i'm intrested in chiping it.......

Seems like bighap has lots of knowledge in this department...
I'd like to be able to play all my Imports too PS1 and 2....
I need to do some maintanace on my PS2 for sure...

My solution.

I stays in Hong Kong. I owns a 30000 Japanese 110v set (made in Japanese) with a direct read mod chip (unknown). Could not read GT4, so I bought a new PS2 Slim which cost HKD1180 (S$250).

I study in S'pore. Brought back the old PS2. A new PS2 Slim costs S$350. A new big PS2 costs >$300. Interestingly the market here is, it's more worthy if it's modded. (HK is the reverse).

So I sold my old PS2 in SG today at S$185, which was a steal to many singaporeans. Later I realised I could have asked for more. Man are greedy ya?

Anyway, S$65 for a new PS2 is definately quite worth it. At least it saves space, looks better, has a NIC (which I can play GT4 over Xlink!! 👍 )

S$65, worth it!

**S$65 is about US $33-34.

Summary
Sell and buy a new set.

Before, I couldn't play DVD9 games. My modchip then was Magic III. Then I had it remodded recently to play GT4.

Now I have no problems playing GT4 and other DVD9 games.

The modchip was remodded to Mars II. SCPH-39001.

I know that you all have been asked this question i'm about to ask many times.
I have: PS2 SCPH-30004, Mars 2 modchip.
Will it run GT4, and what would i have to do if it doesen't run GT4 (except selling)

Blaiz05, it doesn't matter whether your PS2 is PAL or NTSC, as long as its Mars II chipped.

It will read DVD9 games without problems. :)

Boot it the normal way, and it will definitely go to the BROWSER Screen, but in a few seconds, it will boot up GT4.

DMS4 so thats the latest stuff...from what website is the best to order it??
I ordered it from www.modchip.com - Don't know if it is the cheapest place, but shipping was extremely fast..

Be aware that the DMS4 is supposed to be a real PITA to get mounted right.. I had no problems with it, but apparently I'm one of the lucky ones.. You might want to check the DMS Forums and do a little reading.. (I didn't of course :irked: )

That said - I've been EXTREMELY happy with my DMS4pro... That and ToxisOS rules !...

If you have never soldered, I would either recommend having a pro install the DMS or try a different chip. As stated earlier, the DMS is an awesome chip, but very picky about installation. The main reason to get the pro is for easy HDLoader use if you don't develop software. I still kick myself for getting the lite for that reason.

Also, I buy my stuff from consolesource.com just to give you another vendor to try. Been using them for 4 years or so now.

Re: Magic 3.1 Chip: With the game already inserted, press and hold restart to power on your ps2, and release it when the Sony screen comes up. Does that help?

I had a mod chip installed a month ago just so that I could play the Japanese GT4 Demo. A friend who owns an electronics store made the contact with the modder, and I didn't find out till last weekend that I supposedly have some version of the Magic Mod Chip.

I had problems getting the US GT4 to boot up yesterday, but I just tried the hint in your post and it booted right up. I do not really know how to properly take advantage of whatever features the Magic Mod Chip has. I have not been able to find a link with any reasonable instructions (detailing its features).

Do you happen to know where I can find out more about how to properly operate a Magic Chip Modded PS2?

Thanks for the tip up above.
