You don't even need a modchip to play imports, all you need are the following items.

-Fat old PS2
-PS2 Network adapter
-X-Port/Max Drive
-Standard IDE Hard Drive (Maxstor preferably)
-PS1 Game
-PC With DVD Rom drive

Also running games off the HDD virtualy eliminates loading times and you never need worry about scratching your disc's and motor failure ever again!

*Does a little dance*

But why do video game makers have the different region systems anyway?
IF there were no regions, there would be no excuse to have modchips ;)

So they can inflate prices for key regions... y'know, places where people have a little more cash to throw around, like... Australia?

We pay more for other countries who can't afford that much. OK. But what countries get games at a reduced cost, and how much are the games?

It’s wonderful news, as the old murky world of modchips can now become a legitimate and accountable industry. The highest court in the land has spoken- no more appeals for Sony. :D

Uhh... not here. Considering the average family income here (starting wages for office workers are around $120 a month), games should be like $5. But they're still 35-50 US Dollars here. Crap.

It's legal here too in the United Arab Emirates and the Arabian Gulf or (Middle East) countries, but it will harm your PS2 for sure. You need to change and to clean the lins more than who is using an orginal one which are not modchiped.

My friends are really hatting this because they change the lins mostly every 6 months or a year.

An advice for those who are thinking to get a modchip to stay away from it. The more you change the lins you will pay money and it's not cheap. Changing the lins 3 times will cost you for a new PS2.

You just have to get some quality modchip. I have a modded PS2 for 3 years now and never had a problem with it.

Its probably easier just to get a chip. :p

I can't be arsed waiting for imports to arrive, so I've never really even thought twice about getting a mod chip in my PS2 anyway.

Mine's chipped and the lens is still okay.

Really ****ed up our PS1, though.

Will one of the biggest disadvantages in my country people just **** up the games and scratch them like hell 👎

But I don't since I love the things I buy, I think people should take care of their stuff.

Well, at least where I live, Brazil, mod chip is a necessity!!
The price of a home recorded game is about R$8 to R$15, while the price of a original game is no less than R$230. A modchip cost R$300 tops. Math is simple!

In a country that most people earns an average of R$400, who doesn't has a chipped PS2 don't buy games... here, the reality is different.
Thats piracy, yes... Sony doesn't sell any video game stuff here so, importing is the only option.
I don't have a video game...
