PS2 via TFT PC monitor

Hi,

I was wondering if it is possible to hook a PS2 up to my pc monitor, since I no longer own a TV (I bought a tv card for my pc).

In the GT2 section I discussed this in a thread, but it was closed by daan (was about making an iso file of the GT2 disc).

Someone mentioned it is possible to hook the PS2 up using an S-Cable video.

I have a capture device (to transfer VHS tapes to DVD), which has an option to use S-Video cables. I believe I have such a cable somewhere, so getting the cable is not a problem.
Is it possible to hook the PS2 with the S-Video cable, so I can play the PS2 over my pc monitor (19" TFT) using the same program with which I capture my VHS tapes.

In that program, I can select the device, and it will show the tape. If I put the S-Video cable in there, I would be able to play the PS2 games via my monitor?
Do I also need to use the audio cables (red and white)?
Will this work at all, or do I need to buy/use special equipment?

Mark

Don't buy that box, it seemingly only has composite inputs (not to be shuffeled with component!), which provide a very bad picture quality.

To answer the first question, yes, that does work. You can not use some S-Video cable though. You need to buy a PS2 cable with an S-Video plug, such as this one. For displaying the content, Dscaler seems to be a good (or maybe even better?) alternative to your capturing software.

I didn't even think about picture quality. I have seen some boxes that do take advantage of progressive scan though. I have a capture card so i could go that route on mine, just plug and play. But i am having quality issues with the card. Its making horrible quality is the problem! Just haven't had time to trouble shoot it. Thanks for the info...

I tried using my PS2 through a TV card's svideo..... it was shocking! I was abit annoyed and now I don't bother trying to get it on my LCD monitor. Good thing the PS3 doesnt have this problem and can go HDMI to DVI or VGA.

You'll not be able to play a PS2 game using a TV tuner card. It will be displayed OK, but there will be a delay between you pressing the controller, and the results of the button press happening on screen. This is due to the signal having to be decoded by the card in order for it to be displayed on screen, and this results in a delay of about a second or so, at best.

I use a video card with a video in socket (look for a 3d card that states it has VIVO), and I don't notice a delay.

I've also just bought one of these to use as a PC monitor. Its a TV with inputs for monitor (DV & RGB).

I can actually play my PS2 perfectly through my TV Tuner Card. No delay at all, I've been doing that recently to do some of the GT4 WRS and I have noticed no difference to playing it through the TV. The quality seems to be slightly poorer, but is still easily playable (768x576). It is a Leadtek TV2000 Expert card.

Before that I had a RedAnt Playstation 2 VGA Box, which worked very, very well at the time. But I think they're very hard to get hold of now.

I'm with Casio. My TV tuner card has a "normal" mode that doesn't lag, and then it has a "High Quality" mode it can switch to that lags but improves picture quality.

I have the ATI TV Wonder Pro.
