R2: Accelerate
L2: Brake
X: Gear up
Square: Gear down

I have made other changes too but I use this configuration for basic driving. It feels more natural and you won't lose your thumb over time.

Practice makes you faster .... and turning down the driving aids ....

(i use R1/L1 for gears (L)stick for steering (R)stick for Throttle and brakes)

That's how I set mine up, still struggling with the switch from faster to slower cars understeer wise.

When I used a DS3, my setup was; R2 Accelerate, L2 Brake, left stick turn, right stick up to change down and down to change up(like a sequential).

No one change steering sensitivity or anything like that? Does it make any difference?

Yes sensitivity does make a difference, I used to "dull down" the sensitivity for cars like the red bulls but as you get used to them you can ease it back up to find a setting that suits you.

I use the most standard of setups "X" throttle/square brake....even automatic transmission...but the best for me was changing the sensitivity to +5. I also agree with Jimbob on some cars that are either too loose to drive or have the ability to turn on a dime to bring that down a bit until you get more time in the seat of that particular car.

I have mine set to -2, I don't know anyone else who does though (other than one person above), most people seem to actually increase the steering sensitivity. All it does is determine how quickly you can change the steering angle, ie, the responsiveness of the steering wheel.

My controller set up is as follows:

R2 - Accel
L2 - Decel
R1 - Gear up
L1 - Gear down
L3 (Left stick pushed down) - Horn
R3 (Right stick pushed down) - Access to the real time menu
Left stick - Steering
D-pad - Navigate the real time menu
X - Rear view
Square - Nitrous
Circle - Handbrake
Triangle - Reverse

Same set up I had in GT5, except for nitrous of course, which used to be for the lights, and the right stick, that also used to be for looking left and right. When GT6 came out though, it wouldn't let me set this to the right stick, so I left it out (annoyingly). It might be different after one of the updates, as I haven't checked since day 1.

If you're using the left stick, and you're smooth and progressive on the steering then a higher steering sensitivity is a good thing in my opinion. If you tend to flick or jab at the stick, usually made evident on long bends, then i'd recommend lowering the sensitivity.

I tend to increase the steering sensitivity the longer i play and the more i get into the zone. I'm not as smooth on the steering for the first hour or so i'm playing GT but after a while i can be a lot smoother so i turn it up.

Whats the best settings to use for a dual shock driver? I've left stock settings, can I go any faster?

Goto your bin and place it in..it.

Best setup by far 👍

Get yourself an xbox controller and a cross over box

I use the -2 setting, don't know if it helps but its what I've used from practically day 1.

You really think Xbox controller is that much better? I have a 360 aswell and I've always thought the Xbox quality is crap compared to ps3, just my opinion though.

IMO the xbox controller performs equally as well DS3, where it wins is in its ergonomic's. The DS3 is just too small and uncomfortable.

Ahhh good point didnt even think of that, might reduce my console RSI lol. Thanks for the tip.

Obviously the best stick is DS2 with USB adapter, 3 times more pressure range than DS3 on the face buttons ( square, triangle, cross, circle ), this way using gas and brake with cross and square can be very precise, allowing no ABS even with racing brake kit on high brake balance possible.

Imagine pressing gas and brake like when pressing the radar button ( square ) on PS2 Ace Combat 5. DS2 analog stick also has a bit more resistance ( heavier ) than DS3, far better IMO for steering.

get yourself a crossover box (from china) on ebay for about £10, you need to have a "wired" xbox controller (small annoyance)

Lol that's how I used to blitz the f1 games back in the day on ps1/2 by psygnosis.

I'd be amazed if those front pressure buttons are as effective as the R's on a DS3 or 360??

But having said that I've seen some of your times and you do, 'OK'... ;)

Have you played Ace Combat on PS2 and use the radar button, the pressure required to apply full input is much more than trigger button ( force wise ), even with shorter travel, giving precise brake input ( red bar HUD meter ) is very natural and can be easily consistent, I think this is the only stick that can allow me to drive with racing brake kit and high BB value. I can give 10%, 30%, 50%, 70% brake input ( red bar ) with precision, so even if the brake would lock on 30% input, I can still be precise without locking. If anyone doubt the effectiveness, I could run TODA RACING FIGHTEX Honda Civic Type R '08 (FD2) Demo Car 275HP / 279PS 450PP on comfort soft at Tsukuba in 1:04.5xxx without any aids ( no ABS ) and I'm not really quick driver.

I've learnt something new today, I only ever played my brothers PS2 and don't remember the buttons being all that. Respect to you for mastering something very few even try (I imagine).

Edit : I remember trying your lancia stratos test (all aids off) on GT5 (late on), you are quick 👍

It's a unique or specific for the DS2 stick when connected to PS3, somehow Sony engineer made the DS2 works better on PS3 than DS3 :) I played many other PS3 games using DS2, and the added precision/pressure range still exist when the pressure sensitivity on the face button is used by the game ( MGS4, Uncharted, Battlefield BC2 for example )

They seemed to bounce better and take more abuse to lol
