I have been trying this download for a while (maybe 10x) and it still errors on me. Guess they just don't have the capacity.

Dont know why they persist with "security" updates anymore.. They had a good few years run of being the "Unhackable" console, but now all is out in the woods, resistance is futile.

Downloaded and installed update, and back to GT5 within 15 mins :)

they want to keep it "unhackable",pirated games loses them money(1st party games)

Updating via flash drive, you need to make sure it's in a folder named "UPDATE" (without quotes, duh) other than that, no idea if that doesn't work. I used to update with flash drive before we got DSL so I know it works.

I had no problem downloading the update though. Cool for me I guess.

In the flashdrive, create a folder named 'PS3', and inside that folder create a folder named 'UPDATE'. Then put the .pup file inside the Update Folder.

I downloaded the file that jump_ace posted but its only 26,730 KB. scared to do anything with it.

I can't get it to do anything even in an 'UPDATE' folder so I'll just delete the links and try for literally the 20th time via the internet

As I said in my first post in this thread, a quick googling will show talk of smarty pants that have already figured out what they "secured" and how to again "unsecure" it...:dunce:

Some security system, now that its figured out...:sly:

Oops, yeah, that's right.

Haven't done it in forever and a day so... :p

Seems like this update is causing a bit of a kerfuffle.. Looks like I have some hoop jumping to look forward to later when I try to update :grumpy:

im downloading the update now via wifi... started it about 5 mins ago, and im already about 50% through... still going pretty steady!

If your upload breaks try it again...I got it on the second try even though their message tries to pin it on your provider or router.....

I'm highly disappointed in Sony not having the current update linked on their main page. Inexcusable.

Wow I am surprised how many had trouble updating. Mine finished just a few minutes after my first post. I was kidding about thinking it would be faster, but I think GT5 loaded faster than I remember it doing earlier.

Everything still works after the update.

Felt like the loading times were faster after the 1.05 patch, but I didn't use a stopwatch to verify. Who knows.

*sigh* Sony will never learn their lesson... All that stuff hurt a normal users a way more than hackers (this update was a cheap attempt to prevent hacks/homebrew/piracy/etc).
I spent 30 minutes trying to update my 2nd PS3 via internet, then just dled update to usb flash. And guess what? A new key for that new firmware was decrypted and published in ~1 hour. *facepalm*

All this is futile because the hackers will just decrypt every new firmware that comes out within a couple of hours because the underlying DRM key within the PS3 will always stay the same without the release of new hardware.

Bloody minded Sony took away Other OS and now they are going to have to spend years of misery fighting a loosing battle. Apparently there might be online activation codes needed for PS3 games in the future which would suck and kill the second hand market.

Already some games have a one use online play code which means if you sell it on or change your console they / you wont be able to play the online bit of the game ever again!

Robin.

You can thank EA for giving Sony the "Online activation code" idea. And it won't kill the second hand market. You'll just need to buy an online pass. And, if you buy a normally $60 for $10 then then, even with the $10 online code, you're still saving money. Plus they earn bunches of money off of DLC content. And exclusive pre-order content helps with sales.

But as for the firmware stuffs and hackers, you're right, they can plug up as many holes as they want, the dam is still coming down. But they can at least slow the flow.

Wow, amazing really, this new update just seems to be causing legit users grief and hackers are already immune to it.

If we start having daily updates or something I'm gunna send Sony my internet bill and see what happens. :)

It was published, but it also will require all of those stinky pirates to re-backup / download their games, as they will no longer work until they are re-patched, etc.

Essentially, we spent 10 minutes updating our firmware, they'll spend 6 hours re-configuring their stolen games.

I would hope Sony and PD work together behind closed doors, to not only improve GT5, but to collaborate on optimizing the PS3 itself on GT5 loading and possible Kernel bugs affecting the game and Input controllers, aka G25/G27. Usually the Asians are all one big happy family, left pocket right pocket mentality. Coke / Pepsi, ATI / Nvidia, Intel / AMD, FS / BestBuy, DVD / BLU-Ray, Plasma / LCD, ultimately, we all make a choice, right? right!

You've got the very wrong idea about CFW and obviosly can't see the difference between a hacker and a pirate.
No, i won't disagree that very many people using CFW only to get free games running, but not everyone.
There's a lot of people, who are really interested in homebrew and in ability to run their own games from hdd/sdd. I'm one of them, i've got a 2nd PS3 for that not long ago. You can't imagine how fast games are loading when they are fully installed to hdd, even that feature alone worth it, same goes for PSP's UMD vs MS.
Besides... 6 hours, re-backup? You are very very wrong.

The latest firmware couples have also been created to fill holes in security. These updates are sent PS jailbreak exploit. Before the update Sony has closed the door of the USB devices work on the PS3. These blocks were successful, but then cut the PS3 rocks at its base. In fact, some say it is irreversible.

THe problem occurs with certain models when you try to put in a bigger HD. Mine is brand new and not Jailbroken, I just want to swap out my HD and can't....I better be able to soon.

Hello, i'm currently trying to upgrade my HDD but when I download the software update to my flashdrive and connect to the PS it says the file is corrupt. I have created the file PS3>UPDATE>PS3UPDAT.PUP and still get this corrupted message over and over. Can someone please help me out? Thank you in advance.

You are going to have to wait to see if the next update fixes the issue,i haven't been able to use my PS3 for over a week now.
