System is currently updating to the new firmware. Has anyone seen any release documentation?
I think it is an anti-piracy firmware but nothing more, sony said kotaku last month that a new FW was being released for that reason

Please stay on topic guys, no one cares how many guests are here.

Ahhh, the reason is, when you google the update, the first page link is to Sony, which happens to be down at the moment, the next working link in the results is the GTP one haha

How many people are going to be disappointed when they see this thread and are like "wtf that didn't tell me anything" haha

All these lovely people are searching google to see whats going on with the update only to see us sitting here on GT Planet counting how many guests come in to our thread haha

I won't ask again. Stay On Topic. Stop wasting our time counting the number of guests and posting about it.

How long does the update take to download? And is that going to happen before the thread gets locked?

I'm actually curious about what the update is... even if it is just a minor one. Considering the new seasonal events should be coming in 25 minutes, I wonder if it makes sense to update before or after.

1 - This has absolutely nothing to do with GT5 so it's moved the Console section.

2 - Enough about the number of people browsing. Posts of this nature are nothing more than spam. This is now your third warning. There will not be a fourth.

5 minutes to download, 1 minute to install. It doesn't even have a statement of what it is supposed to do meaning it only tells the hackers to go away

Seems like a lot of people are getting stuck downloading it online (I'm assuming Sony's servers are just freaking out due to high use)

I will try the flash drive when I get home

I've said it 3 times people! It is a "security patch" to stop the jailbreakers. Nothing more. End of topic. (for me anyway)

3.56 does not work!I can not sign in it says “a error has occurred during the operation. A connection to the sever cannot be esstablished”(80710723)

I will download it tommorow then... The links Jump_Ace provided are 3.56 for sure? The links aren't even up on the PS website.

Is just a "security" update. But a quick Googling finds that those hacker boffins already have it figured out. Some lv2 code change, which does nothing effective to thwart any funny business...

I couldn't update this via the internet. If you are like me and get the error '80710723' Try these direct downloads to use a flash drive for the update:

NTSC - http://dus01.ps3.update.playstation...6e070c96e0464e993aaf9deac3660863/PS3UPDAT.PUP

PAL - http://deu01.ps3.update.playstation...6e070c96e0464e993aaf9deac3660863/PS3UPDAT.PUP

I'm doing the update now, I'll report back the results :) And I'll move this to the right thread. With so many people on here, I'll just leave this here in the Q and A section.

Please stay on topic guys, no one cares how many guests are here.

UPDATE - I couldn't get the above NTSC update.pup to get recognized as an update file when I copy it to a flash drive. I've never updated via flash storage before, anyone have any luck? Maybe these are the wrong files?

Jerome

Updating via flash drive, you need to make sure it's in a folder named "UPDATE" (without quotes, duh) other than that, no idea if that doesn't work. I used to update with flash drive before we got DSL so I know it works.

I had no problem downloading the update though. Cool for me I guess.

hmm...if they broke through it that fast im going to assume i will very soon have to be dealing with updates every week.ugh

I wanna play the new seasonal events, but I can't because this update gives me a error message, Can anyone help? :)

Dont know why they persist with "security" updates anymore.. They had a good few years run of being the "Unhackable" console, but now all is out in the woods, resistance is futile.

Downloaded and installed update, and back to GT5 within 15 mins :)
