Hi all,

I had a dreaded RLOD on my 60gb fat ps3 last week. I took the hdd out and called Sony for a replacement.

I now have a shiny new ps3 but I don't know how to get all my data from my old hdd to my new hdd.

Can anyone help?

I got ylod on my 2 1/2 y.o 40gb ps3 on saturday morning. I took it to be fixed. Got it back. Starts up fine and plays BR discs, dvd etc. But playing MW2 (still waiting for GT5… the reason i bought PS3 in first place) after 5 mins fan goes into top speed and stays that way!

Anybody got any ideas other than to get a new slim ps3 before my amazon pre-order arrives when it is finally released

I think the only way you could have backed it up is with an external HDD when your original PS3 was working. That way you could have loaded the backup onto your new system. But I think your out of luck now, sorry.

I would definitely recommend opening it up and applying Arctic Silver 5 to the heatsink. During the fixing process maybe some of the original thermal paste (which is terrible quality anyway) may not have stuck back properly. Poor thermal contact is a major cause of YLOD's and high fan speeds. The 40GB's also had heatsink fitment issues which meant there was a huge gap between it and the chips.

Robin.
