I would give it another half an hour before resetting it. I went through this because some system information was corrupted because my brother shut the PS3 off while the HDD was active. Though once it finished I never lost any data so it seems harmless. It would not hurt to run it overnight to just make sure.

Ok.. Sorry for the double post, but it's just so it can be seen.. It's about 4 hours later and it still says zero? Should I turn it off and restart it?

Edit: I bit the bullet and turned it off.. It came back to the data rebuild screen and it hiccuped and restarted and told me it was not turned off right last time (because you have to use the switch). Then, it starts up normally and everything's there and fine! :D:tup:

It is true. When your console breaks and you send it back to Sony, it's a reconditioned one that you get back, not you own. Your broken console will be repaired and sent back to some other schmuck who's console went ga-ga. That's why it only takes a few days to get a console back from them cos they are continuously repairing ones and have a whole stack of them ready to be sent out to the unfortunate people like yourselves.
The MOST reliable one was the first one they ever did - the 60GB launch one.
The LEAST reliable one was the 40GB one. Think that was made using paper and glue and put together by blind chimps kept going on bananas and PG Tips.

Not to get off topic but I own two PS3s. A 40gb fat model and 250gb slim. The phat has died on me three times.

The first time the bluray laser died and my Sony warranty had expired one month prior. I removed the drive and cleaned the lens myself but that did not solve my problem so I sent it out to a repair shop. $75 later I had my original PS3 back with a working bluray drive. (I know Sony just send you a different ps3 and not your own when doing a repair so I made sure not to send mine to them)

The second time my HDD crapped out. So I bought a new 120GB HDD but the down side is I lost almost all of my saves.

The third time my bluray deck died. Not the laser just the deck itself. I bought a used deck off the web and installed my bluray laser in it then placed the unit back in my PS3 and saved myself a bunch of money. Oh and I bought a slim because I was getting tired of my fat breaking down. Now I have two working PS3s.

So, the problem with the old PS3 was that the Motherboard was cracked, causing it to randomly freeze, even in PS2 games, and then eventually, YLOD. It was probably caused by someone dropping it. It definitely wasn't me, so maybe it got dropped by someone on the way back to Jamaica. It was impossible to fix, so I just stored it away somewhere, and asked my cousin to get me a new one. Got that last summer, and it still works perfectly fine.
