I think it's better where it is (http://img231.imageshack.us/i/img0822d.jpg/) than on an enclosed shelf as the hot air from exhaust vents at the back is going to get sucked in by the inlet vents around the edge of the PS3. Just move the desk as much to the right as it can (move the bin) and raise it off the carpet by 10cm as you planned. Just keep in mind what it says in the manual.

  • Place the system at least 10cm away from a wall surface.
  • Do not place on a carpet or rug with long fibres.
  • Do not place in a narrow or cramped space.
  • Do not cover with cloth.
  • Do not allow dust to build up on the vents

Or add a larger wooden plate on the desk, you gain some space that should be enough to put up your ps3 decently.

(Also got 2 psp? Me too 👍)

OMG my PS3 is mint , and is in a open space but still it gets the YLOD 3 times ! Thats a PS3 First Gen for you 👎

The fatty doesn't need a stand. Just put it on whatever surface your TV is on. But keep it as far away from the TV as possible if you're using WiFi.

I know this is an old thread, but why keep it far away from the TV when using wifi?

Woops, it's answered in the Q above me :ouch:

It looks like a fine spot (Next to the bass speaker) but maybe move the speaker stand over a little?
