So why do professional gaming sites and magazines always recommend the one with best graphics when it comes to multiplatform? I never get why they do that instead of get the one for the system you'll use the most.👎

I don't know, I wasn't disagreeing that graphics are important to people...I'm just saying it shouldn't be.

To put it very simply, if you want GT5, Jak and Daxter, and BluRay movies, get the PS3.

In other words, you should go by whichever system has more games that you want to play and more features you think you'll like and use. The era for arguing about the hardware itself has come and gone.

One thing that was touched on was developing PS3 games is difficult, mainly because it's so foreign to the programmers

*snip*

Actually in one of those videos I posted, DLB talks about the different developers that are moving over to the PS3 and how more will move over because everyone wants to make huge games that give the gamers a good experience. For developing on the 360, if they want a big game, they do not know who has a HD and who doesnt so that limits what they can do, with the PS3, everyone has a HD so they have more freedom.

One thing that was touched on was developing PS3 games is difficult, mainly because it's so foreign to the programmers. It seems that some of the ports to the PS3 have not be up to par with the 360 counterparts. EA is notorious for making money, not necessarily into making a quality game. I will save additional comments about this for another thread. When they start to really make games to the potential of the PS3, LOOK OUT. It should be pretty impressive. Drakes Fortune, Uncharged just touches some of the power of the PS3. Hopefully this will tell the big corporate number crunchers that time invested in the PS3 technology will only yield bigger profits down the road, resulting in less ports and more direct programming for the PS3 platform. Lets not forget, at least for the time being, that pirating Blu-Ray games are expensive and unsuccessful on a large scale which helps to protect profits, unlike M$ platform games......

With the amount of time it is taking for PD to release the 5th installment of Gran Turismo, and judging from that screen shot we just saw of the possible new TOCA I would say they are starting to make games that will touch if not fully grasp the full potential of the PS3. As those games stand now hey are pretty darn realistic. I can't wait to see what will become of them now!

Its funny that I'm actually starting to get a bit excited about the potential which is scary. The racing games are made truly rewarding when coupled with Logitech's DFP and from what I have heard the G25. The amount that I will put into the game andthat wheel will easily be what I need to replace my crappy old Sanatoga guitar with a nice brand new ESP MH1000!

Well, atleast the PS3 the cost will broken up over the period of a year, because I wont have to worry about buying the G25 or GT5 for atleast a year. Its pretty bad when all your activities require components that cost so much:sly:

@Road Rash,

For sure. It is an exciting time to play video games... I've been looking to justify a cockpit and a G25 or a variation of for GT5. It's a load of cash, but like you said, I'm also looking to spread it over a year. :) It's gonna be awesome!

This is not a dig at the PS3 and I know many people like the games on it. With that said I want to say graphics really don't mean much in the grand scheme of things. If the game play is crap, yet it looks great no one is going to want to play it. I will never understand the fascination of people wanting a shiny game.
Yes and no. In some cases, graphics are not the most important. For instance, I will buy every golf game on my Wii from this point forward. It is nice to be able to work on my slice when it is 5 degrees outside. But the Wii graphics are not a distraction as they are just not as realistic looking.

On the other hand bad graphics with jaggies, pop-up, and whatnot become a distraction. So, I think the nature of the game and the type of graphical differences can be the determining factor over whether gameplay will trump graphics or not.

But if we are talking 720p vs. 1080p or 30fps vs. 60fps then I would choose gameplay over graphics.

Gameplay and graphics is why I chose a PS3 (all the added features were a bonus that had me buy one sooner than my original plan). Racing games are my favorite type of game and I knew that GT5 would be a graphical masterpiece and then combine my DFP and it has the best gameplay.

Every system takes a couple of years to reach their full potential. I think that with Blu-ray having such a huge capacity we may go even longer with the PS3 just getting bigger and better games.

I got mine in June with birthday money. The day I came home with that big black box was more exciting than anything we did for my birthday. I cannot tell you what else I received for my birthday, I just know most people realized I wanted a PS3 and gave me money or gift cards. That 45 minute drive home from Best Buy was the longest 45 minutes I have ever had.

Also, when I bought mine I didn't even buy a game. I took it home, hooked it up online and downloaded GTHD. That entertained me for over a week.

Nope, not at all. I remember that deep, deep into the PS2's life games were still looking better and better every year. I highly doubt that trend would change with the PS3. We're still on the tip of iceberg, so to speak.

I agree, there isn't really any telling how good games on the PS3 (or any other future console) can look. Companies talking about more than 4 layers on a single disc (100GB of info). There really is no telling how good games could look.

Our anniversary is FEB 13, and round about theat time taxes should be back and hopefully my wife's bonus and maybe vene that kicker we are all suppossed to get from congrewss on our taxes from last year are going to enable us to make this PS3 and a Wii a reality. The wife had mentioned early this evening that we could consider the PS3 and Wii a present to each other from each other. Finding out about the multi media capabilities sold my wife on the PS3.

Last I heard the tax rebate would be received separate from the refund, possibly in May. So, until we know for sure you might want to take that into consideration. But considering that rebate for a couple could be as much as $1600 (I haven't heard the final details yet) and more if you have kids it will definitely cover the costs. Ours will be going toward a nice HDTV.

Can you please elaborate a bit more?

Just a guess, but in the video links provided, he describes the 360 as "in the now" and the PS3 the console for the future, but I could be wrong.

I think both have a solid future and I am glad I own both systems. I think one of the smartest moves a gamer could make is own both systems if it is financially possible. By only going with one system you will lose out on the other great features of the other system. For me if I never would have gotten a PS3 I would not have experienced the awesomeness of what is Blu-Ray.

I would agree..., if possible, own all the gaming system. This isn't always feasible. For the x360, I really enjoyed Gears of War...I actually feel like a better person playing that game. Any other exclusives for the 360 were ok, nothing epic in my opinion but we'll see how Mass Effect turns out, Halo3 was ok. The PS3 had some pretty good moments with GT:HD/GT5:P and really looking forward to GT5. I KNOW this will be EPIC for a racing sim. Drakes Fortune was pretty cool as was Resistance Fall of Man for a FPS. Other exclusives were...well, ok. Then you have just great games like Call of Duty 4 available on all the systems. What a great game, with hours and hours of online fun! Most my household (that games) is addicted to this game. 18 players max on the PS3, unlike the PC version....30+ players on a map! We'll also get a chance to see what Home for the PS3 brings. Hopefully it will remain a free service brought to you by Sony. I suggest ad banners on the virtual walls to help support the funding of that network. I'm really just babbling right now at this point with nothing really more to say.... except my 160GB PS3 rocks! :D

Mass Effect is probably one of the best games I have ever played, but my favourite genre is action RPG so I am a little biased there I suppose. I recommend it highly to all 360 owners if you enjoy that sort of game.

I am curious about Home, as well as Little Big Planet. So many good games coming down the line for both systems, I can't wait.

Everyone has different reasons and tastes for the systems they choose. For me nothing beast full backwards compatibility. I'm enjoying both Chrono Cross and Final Fantasy XII for the first time. And not ever needing to swap memory cards is great. Still to me the cost of $600 was well worth it since i take full advantage of it. My 360 was a gift and I did not like paying for XBL since i rarely used it. And the battery changing bugs me to no end.

I would like to play Mass Effect and thats the only 360 game I want to play.

yes
xbox is 3 years old now. I believe most people get used to x360 graphics but ps3 gets better and better in every new game. but still ps3 is not working full capacity. uncharted producer says game use 1/3 power resource of CELL processor imagine what would it be if %100 percent.

last year xbox was better in multiplatform games but now they are becoming identical. (devil may cry 4, gta4 etc)
but ps3 exclusive games are really worth to play and wait :(
why they delayed little big planet

I do not believe the 360 has met it's full potential and we know the PS3 hasn't. I'll be curious to see what this year holds for gaming.

After three years, you would hope developers would have tapped the x360's capabilities dry. If we keep seeing revisions to the 360's hardware, i.e. 1080P, larger HD's, speculation of HD-DVD games..., although M$ has already said "NO TO HD-DVD GAMES", then I would agree.... With the current 360 hardware lineup, I'm guessing we've seen the best the 360 has to offer in terms of technology utilization.

I think "Too human and alan wake" graphics are full potential of x360
as a graphic quality they would be all you can see this year.
but ofcourse graphic isnt everything. fun is much more important and thatswhy both console will have a lot of fun games this year. fable 2 for example.
