Its just been officially annouced so I will post everything from Sony's mouth in here as it comes in including the official images...

120 GB drive, 33 percent smaller and 36 percent lighter... will retail for 299 Euros.

The first official image of the console, and yes all those shady video and pictures we have seen over the past months turned out to be the real deal. I have to say its not all that good looking a console!

Hopefully they haven't traded reliability for size.

300 bucks.. I buy it!

Specifications..
120 GB HDD. 34 % less power consumption. 34 % lighter
Same features and functionality, 120 HDD


NICE! Altho I have a 180 HDD its the 7200 not the slow 5400 that PS3 packs, So that HDD will be swapped right away if it's possible on this model.

What abut cooling? It's small, so that means smaller fans, which means overheating.

Smaller chip means less heat ;)

Last year they already went from 90nm to 65nm to reduce costs and heat/energy usage :)


(The 2007/8 40GB model uses 135 Watt instead off 200 for the 60GB launch model)
 
It does look worse than the fat model, but not really by a huge amount - i think they could have made it look a lot better than they have done, mind...
 
It doesn't look too bad and its a bargain!
So what do people reckon the PS3 Phat will cost when the Slim is launched?
And when do you think this wil be out? Before GT5 (2017 :D)?
And lastly, do you think there will be a PS3 slim bundle with GT5...?

I actually really like it, I much prefer the way it looks to the fat version, and no Spiderman typeface! :D
 
Interesting that they've gone back to old school 2 prong power - instead of PC style kettle cables!

I'm discusted by the price policy of Sony... $299 is not equal to 299 EUR. A little less motivation to buy a console. Also dissapointed that no big news were announced during press conference. Hope that TGS will do better...
 
Well its good news for me i can finally afford a PS3 now . Now to continue my Play station collection PS one ,PS2 slim and (very soon) PS3 slim.
 
They've made the same mistake as before there's no usb ports on the back of the console!

Doesn't look great either with the matte finish IMO.
