I don't have DSL available where I live, but my brother does. Since my PS3 or Turismo hasn't ever been updaed, how long should it take for the updates to download?

Welcome to GTplanet. Download time will depend on your Internet connection. It took me about 20 minutes for everything with 15mb down, 10mb up. I also downloaded when Spec 2 first released, so the server was slammed.

It will all depend on your connection speed and how large the files end up being. My guess is that it certainly won't be a 10 minute done and dusted thing, I'd be saying at least an hour.

Edit: I was probably too harsh on it, but otherwise I have no idea sorry.

Apparently I misread. You haven't downloaded Any updates? If that's the case, grab a movie because it will take awhile. I thought you were talking Spec 2 only, as it's a bit over 300mb. Your probably looking at 1gb or so total.

PS3 firmware update is around 190mb
Batch of GT5 updates was around 2gigs, not including spec 2 intro movie.

Now you can calculate it based on your connection speed.

My friend just bought a PS3 and GT5. Not including the PSN Network update, the GT5 updates were taking about 3 1/2 hours on an okay but slow network connection when it just decided to quit on us (we were almost done too) :(
Does this help answer your question?

I am also updating my PS3 for the first time, I finally got internet at my place. I had to update my PS3 firmware first, I am currently downloading the GT5 update, I have lost track, but it is more than 1.00Gb.

I have receive 2 error messages while downloading the GT5 update
(error 80710723) after some research I read that I had to disable Media Server (Under network setting). I have again resumed the download and I am hoping the download finishes today as my net is slow, I have my fingers crossed that the error messages I got don't effect my in-game progress :scared: (I did not do a progress back-up)

I have that error too, at patch 1.07. I was reading it is a proxy issue and to set up a proxy on the pc and download the patch manually then get the ps3 to download of the pc etc.

So you just turn of media server? wow thanks.

It may be worth using a wired connection if possible as that really speeds things up when downloading.

If you have a computer, you can download the latest PS3 firmware from whatever device you used to post here on GTPlanet (if you can download files), and if you have a blank CD-R (CD-RW also works) and a CD burner, you can burn the latest PS3 update onto the disc, insert the disc into your PS3, and update your firmware.

I did this once because my computer's network controller was acting wonky, so I resorted to using a mobile device.

Here's a link

You can also use a USB mass storage device like a USB flash memory drive, but my mobile device requires "speshul" drivers to access the internal memory... :grumpy:

As for updating GT5, your PS3 needs to have some decent Internet access, as these updates not only need to download, but install as well, and all that time sure adds up... :irked:

What are the chances of loosing game data / GT5 progress if the download crashes several time?

I just checked my download progress, I got a error message again  the update was downloading since the last 8hrs

I hope my PS3 doesn't overheat.

I have about 100kb/s download from Adams Cable from PA, and it took 3 hours or so to DL. So yeah, i suggest finding something else to do durign that time
