Because it's not a game. I judge machines on the quality of games first and foremost. Judging a machine on what we know now is like judging a film on a 30 second piece of preview footage.
"I think the ps3 is better because while Ive never played one, never really seen one, or really seen a proper game for it, I think it's better"
yeah right. I'll wait till I've played em both thank you very much,
pc's are teh pwnage btw.
Well, I see where your coming from, but to me it makes very little sense.
Every year, they release trailers of the next MGS game, and all we see are in game cutscene's, but they aren't actually game play videos. Yet we KNOW and believe that it will look that good.
When you see a 30 second clip for Episode II, there is no denying that it looks wonderful, and the visuals are stunning, regardless of how terrible the movie may be.
So, considering that we can see how good the visuals can be, there is no denying that it will be visually stunning, regardless of how embarassingly bad the select game may turn out to be. Technical demonstrations offer that same preview.
And food for thought, regardless of how it "can or can't be trusted". The PS3 dev kits are running on Nvidia chips which at the current time, are unnamed and unreleased, however they are not the RSX, and as many speculate, are the G70, which will be inferior to the RSX.
These GPU's are running on PCI express slots, which also means they do not enjoy the bandwidth to the processor that the RSX will.
Also, the Cell processor run in the dev kits, which are nearly identical to the hardware running technical demo's at E3, are all running at 2.4Ghz, not 3.2Ghz, which is roughly 75% of the cell power.
So, with that said, regardless of how much you think AI will have an impact, there is still untapped power that hasn't been used in any of the tech demo's, and they were limited in performance, and still looked amazing.

Tech Demo's do count, but you have to know what they count for. Accurate representation of a system capability. If you see a head rendered with a gazillion poly's, then you know that it can effectively rendere a gazillion poly's with lighting effects, but don't expect everyone's head to look like that, just that it can't render a gazillion poly's. Understand what you see, and you'll understand what to expect
