PSA - If you hold down throttle before the race, you use fuel

Tested this a few times, but it's really hard to see unless it's a race with heavy fuel consumption.

Essentially though, during the "staging" time where you can rev your engine but your car hasn't started it's auto drive yet - if you sit there and rev the whole time you're burning fuel.

Hmm. That's interesting.
I've been pressing the throttle before auto drive kicks in because i am under the assumption that it helps get me a bit of a faster start in autodrive. But now that i know this and since i havent tested whether i actually get a faster autodrive start by revving, i think ill stop when fuel consumptions is an issue.

I believe that revving it does give you a little bit of a better launch when autodrive takes over.In a turbo revving it hard to spool the turbo seems to help, whereas with a naturally aspirated engine its better to keep it at its peak power/torque range.

It's interesting that it affects fuel consumption though, good of PD to remember to add it!

That's why I obnoxiously flash my lights instead

I sorta guessed that this is how it works, but never really confirmed it until now. The more I know :D

Has anyone confirm/debunk that it helps with the autodrive launch to floor the throttle?
Yes, go to a Sport Mode race that has at least x15 fuel consumption
Before you start in autodrive, floor the throttle. You'll notice that the fuel percentage goes from 100% to 99% (or 99% to 98% in my case for some weird reason)

If I have the fuel map display up when the car is on the grid, sometimes it shows my map to be “-1”, but if I try and change it it goes back to 1.

Quite odd.

Yes I know that has been confirmed, but I was asking about if it has been confirmed or debunked weather it actually makes a difference to the autodrive launch to floor the throttle.

As in, does it give you advantage to have the gas on when the autodrive starts.

Curious to know as I've often wondered that myself :)

Oh, that. Hmm, I don't know either. But if it's true, the difference is more or less 1/100ths at best. I used to floor the throttle before auto-drive, and then "float" at the optimal rev range, and now I don't step on it at all. But I never found a difference doing all the three

From my observations it gives you a slightly better launch. But it seems that the auto drive system adjusts for any unfair difference in gaps and slows you down so that your advantage is negated. Instead you're at a slight speed disadvantage when the race starts.

These are only my impressions though, take them with a pinch of salt.

duh? :D I mean did anyone think the opposite? :D I was always laughing at the people burning off their fuel before race.

I mean it's still a video game - I wouldn't be surprised if the car didn't burn fuel while you were revving before the race.
It's something I noticed during BB raceway (I was running a 1 stop strategy) so fuel was very important.
My daughter likes to push the pedals down on my rig and she had the fuel going pre-race and I noticed I started with 98% instead of my usual 100%

Well damn I always rev on the grid to let everybody know there's an eager beaver waiting to blast past everybody :sly:

Ha...

Whenever I'm starting in last place I always rev the car to see if I can hear it from the camera at the front of the lineup.

Yeah but fuel consumption was properly implemented way back in GT4 :) ever since then there were fuel saving licences too so I am not surprised :D

Cor you have headlights and the ability to steer, well done!! That's always my thought at the beginning of a race when I see these planks doing those 2 pointless things!
Just trying to think, what do real race drivers do on the grid? Flash their lamps and turn their wheels or rev their engines? Hmmm.

And turning the wheels from one side to the other. That is ultimate cool.
Especially in a kart, get that camera rocking.

Have you ever seen WTCC drivers on the grid when they get a camera on them?

Yeah but in real life there is only 1x fuel consumption, so some revving won't make a big difference you know.
