man your carbon fibre pattern looks way better than mine. mine looks like a black swirly line

Wrong Bimmer...if someone tells me how to do the carbon fibre, then I will post the car, both before and after.

i don't do it like that

i worked out a good method, my carbon fibre looks good now.

  • Select the hood.
  • With hood selected, press Ctrl+C to copy it & Ctrl+V to paste it. This will give you a new layer with only the hood in it. You will need this later.
  • Now make a new canvas and make it 7 pixels by 4 pixels and make sure the canvas background is transparent.
  • Zoom in on the new canvas all the way (1600%)
  • Select the top-left quarter of the canvas and colour it with black-to-white gradient using the gradient tool.
  • Select the bottom right quarter and repeat.
  • Now go edit > define pattern
  • Type in Carbon Fiber
  • Go back to your car picture and make a new blank layer.
  • Go edit/i] > fill
[*]Select pattern from the drop down menu and select the carbon fiber pattern you made. Then hit ok.
[*]Now go edit > transform > skew
[*]Bring the top left and top right corners inwards making sure your hood is covered in the CF pattern. Hit OK when done.
[*]Now go and rotate the image say about 30 degrees. The rotate thing is found under transform as well. Make sure your hood is still covered in CF.
[*]Now, hold Ctrl and click on the layer with your hood (should be your second layer). This will magically select the hood for you. Pretty bift eh? :D
[*]Press Shift+Ctrl+I and press delete to get rid off the excess CF.
[*]Ctrl and click on your hood to select your hood again and then go Filter > Distort > Twist and twist about 50 degrees or around that area. Click OK when done.
[*]Now change the layer blending mode of the CF pattern layer (the one you should be in now) to Multiply
[*]And then to wrap it up, press Ctrl+U and move the saturation slider right to left (about 90%)
    [*]Voila, carbon fiber hood!

BTW, that was 4 Photoshop 7, but other versions should work

Thankyou eddy...will try...

P.S., I'm not going to use a carbon fiber hood...just other parts.

Thankyou eddy...will try...

I made it september first so if you want to change your entry you can...............It gives new members a chance also

Well, I tryied, but it didn't work...

First off, you say select the top left and then the top right quaters...I used the rectangle marquee, I think that's what I was supposed to do...

Then the pull the top right and top left corners inward with skew...where to I bring them to? So what I did was make a new pattern, with the gaps between the top left corner and bottom right corner gradiants, I filled that black...that woulda worked...but then when I did the control-select layer thing, that worked, but the shift-control-I-delete left the pic red(which is my backround color on the selector on the toolbar...I couldn't do anything else...

Help!

No I'm not, I'm trying to get this Carbon fiber thing to work

Wow, you liked mine? That was actually my first photoshop contest entry...

To bad I don't have the 300 or 400 buck to shell out on Photoshop

Photoshop Elements came with our Dell...no extra cost.
