i have to disagree with your comment about the wheel and controller being equal on forza controller users are at a disadvantage because it is so much easier to be smoother with the wheel if you ask me i think controller users like daveyskills that put down no1 times on a regular basis on forza are the better players cause its alot harder to nail the perfect lap

I should have been more clear, not equal but an equalizer... everyones experience differs but I was laying down very similar times no matter the wheel or controller... I hoped for an advantage with a wheel but its really quite easy to be smooth with the controller in Forza 3... As I was investigating this I learned others with the exact same issues...

Forza didn't punish "jerky" motions as much as GT5, destabilizing the car was based more on velocity than 4 point weight distribution...

But here is the irony, I've seen your guys replays, they are butter smooth, almost boring if that makes sense... If I didn't know any better I would think they were AI on the perfect "way point" map around the track... When your that smooth you must be thinking ahead, pretty much nulling out what I'm describing as the forces I'm referring too are more circumstantial than trying to predict the motion... Again, I'm aggressive and thats just not the key to being fast...

Back when I used to race, my "pit boss" would force me to come to the track early in the AM before anyone got there, just before the sun came up. He would tell me to sit on the pit wall, close my eyes, and run a 5 lap race, in my head, in REAL TIME... think about this, we think fast skipping lots of details... The logic here is that you get you mind and motor skills calibrated to the actual race, not just dream about shooting around the track... And was intended to make me a smoother driver... I was very good at dicing it up with others on the track but when ever distance got between me an other drivers I slowed down without even realizing it... no matter if I was in front or a gap in the pack... To correct this they would feed me very detailed track timing so I had something to race against... But this had an adverse effect... needless to say, I was not meant to be a natural racer... I just had a lot of money and a dream...

Lol, I am by far the coolest as I am 31!:sly: I use the view where the gauges is all you see. But some of the guy's use hood/bonnet view.

:p, Only about half my hair is gray. So I look like I know what I'm doing and I can still do it!:dunce:

what views do you skill guys use? Is it all personal preference or do you all use the same one? Just curious.

i use the first person can with the clocks on the screen, i think some of the other guys use roof view. so yeah just personal preference 👍

Don't be too quick to judge him, Sabine Schmitz thinks he's fast. He just needs a louder alarm clock :sly:

I wasn't saying he isn't a quick driver, I was referring directly to the driving in the video game where he was off the track and slamming into high curbs with no consequence, surely he wouldn't drive a real car with all four off in the dirt to get a wider entry to a turn in real life. ;)

I've seen Fak-Evil on the tt's, he's a beast!

I noticed Takeuchi01 in the RX8 leaderboards but he's like in the 40's (He was #2 globally in the GT Academy). Dunno why but alot of the global leaders are not on the leaderboards.

I've never met the guy, but he is highly regarded around this forum. From what I can see, one of his biggest strengths is his ability to very quickly figure out what the fast line/technique is for a given challenge, real or virtual. I wouldn't expect him to drive like that in real life either, he was just exploiting how GT4 was programmed. That is pretty much the topic of this thread: using techniques and setups to get the most out of the game's physics and penalty systems.

they said coolest not oldest grandpa :sly:

I just wanted to say that I think it's really good what you guys (skills) have done in coming to GT5 and the GTplanet forum. I also think the way you guys have conducted yourselves so far is to be commended, I don't sense any arrogance or animosity from you guys or your posts, so I just wanted to say well done. 👍

Also, with respect to your time trialing achievements another big well done is also in order.

I did, however, just want to say something which I truely hope you don't take offence to. The moderators on this site are extremely strict about enforcing the rules. One of the rules they enforce heavily is the correct use of grammer and punctuation (I know it might sound silly but it's 100% true) in posts. I noticed that Dynamic doesn't use many capital letters in his posts and I just wanted to give you guys a friendly bit of advice that this is something the moderator will pick up on sooner rather than later.

The reason I'm saying this is that I genuinly think it's a good thing to have you guys on board and I don't want you guys to think that you are being picked on if the moderators were to speak to you about the grammer and punctuation.

It doesn't matter who you are or how experienced you are, whether you are new or a long time GTplanet contributer, you don't follow the rules, it's just a matter of time before you get a slap on the wrist or a warning.

Please don't think I'm trying to be a headmaster telling off a pupil, I respect what you guys have done and respect your speed and I think it would be better for a member of GTplanet to give you guys a heads up on the situation, rather than a moderator giving out a warning.

I hope you don't take offence at what I'm trying to explain, that is not my intention.

I wish you guys all the best with your time trailing and racing, and hope that GT5 and GTplanet can live up to your expectations.

👍

Hey Highlander, that was a very long way of saying; "Hey, you guys are getting a lot of good attention, and people look up to your abilities, make sure you don't torpedo yourselves by coming off as uneducated dolts"

This is why I started this thread, I'm glad to see them coming in and even providing a web address... witch leads to my next question...

I DO very much remember the VVV guys from Forza, but I remember them all being French???

And has Forza ever been mentioned so many times in any thread without a war breaking out? :P

Lawndart, they may have been all French at some point but now they have members from all countries. The guy who run's the stats sites is from Brazil. As for a war over the forza word, I'm claiming no contest. After a few days of playing GT5 I knew which was the better driving sim. I played forza 3 almost everyday since the release but now I can't bring myself to play it anymore. In my personal opinion it just can't compete with GT5 and I could list multiple reasons why but I will leave it at that.

How come none of these guys except FAK_EVIL have tried the time trials?

Many of the fast guys don't actually bother with the official GT events. GT academy usually gets them crawling out the woodwork. Some of the inter-forum championships get the fast guys interested also.

It's fair to say that this time trial board isn't representative of the fastest drivers, although from memory FAK is very fast, one of the fastest guys I've ever met anyway. Even then, I doubt the likes of FAK have spent all that much time on it.

For those who want to find strong competition, its probably better to search this place or other forums for some of the major competitions, many of the fastest racers will appear in them.

Sorry couldn't resist, someone had to do it :sly:.

Back to topic, I take it EddSkill is not a part of the Skills team?

No offence taken, my grammer hasn't always been great lol, but it has been steadily improving due to the amount of comments ive had in the past on other forums due to it :dunce:

personally i am liking gt5 quite allot, my main love is iRacing. its the game i left forza to play and once i became a whell user i couldnt bring myself to play forza any more, its not a bad game but the wheel coding is alot better here on gt5 and that in itself makes this a much more enjoyably game amongst other features.

I'm sure most have noticed that altho we came from forza we arn't a bunch of forza fanboys, in the FM2 days its probably fair to say we were, but forza 3 just didn't live up to exspectations and many of us stopped playing properly many months ago. wich is probably why no wars have broken out :)

I don't beleave anyone from Skills has come to GT5 with i idea in there head that they age going to be the best, we all know there is many fast guys that have been here for a while, altho some of are faster guys are looking forward to trying to give them a good run for there money. we usaly are a competitive bunch of individuals in regards to setting fast times, trying to beat each other and helping each other get faster sharing tuning ideas etc.

i think its fair to say that the community here at gt planet is much more mature and generaly more friendly than the forza forums ( maybe the average age is higher here or more people just act there age) and we have all been made to feel very welcome among the community, thanks guys :)

Back to topic, I take it EddSkill is not a part of the Skills team?

No, i hadn't heard of him till i got here to be honest, i beleave he is a bit of a freak on here.
the Skills name started on forza when TPR lewis or canary_skills dicided he was going to copy daveyskills and change his name to leweyskills. and make a mini team within TPR. it started of on GT5 as a fun team then just kinda blew up when more of us decided to jump on the bandwagon 👍

Knowing how young the Skills are is making me very happy because im now only :324 off Daveyskills London time trial and im 40 yrs old. You youngesters will realise that when you get to my age it takes alot more concentration and effort. Maybe they should have leaderboards for us oldies lol.

Still I now know where to find this :324 from so shall have another go tomorrow.

I will say this though many of my Forza friends have already given up with GT5. Reason being is I use a G25 but they are using the PS3 controller. Now on Forza we managed fine without a wheel but its pretty clear that on GT5 a wheel is a must if you want to set top times.

All I know is he is naturally very fast. Just had a quick read of this, includes one of your team members and also EddSkill who set the fastest lap to enter the finals.

They need a time trial for the full Nurburgring using RUF's or something :P ..

But yeah, I have noticed a lot of the top names are not on the leaderboards.. I guess it could be to do with them not having motivation since there is no prize at the end of it. I am sort of like that - I played the TT demo everyday to keep up with the rest of the world but now I don't really care as much.

I was basically trying to say ''watch out for the moderators, you're breaking the rules''!!!!! :scared:

Cool, no worries, many thanks for taking notice of my post.

All the best for the future 👍

Funny truth about the Fm3 guys going back to it because of no wheel... I bought one and have always been erked about MS peripheral support... But I play all my other racing games on xbox for now... But I did have to forcefully remove my ms wheel from my playseat so who knows if I go back...

But I probably will because of party chat... Can't believe ps3 dosnt have this critical feature...

If I could ask for one thing I would love the integra RM tune you guys use to get a more direct delta between skill levels. Just to old and no time for the trial and error ;p

Actually, as long as you capitalize, the rest of your posting will be okay by us.

Very interesting about the "bug" with the ride height... if you guys had been around the Turismo scene in GT3, a similar bug allowed us to get speeds in excess of 1000 kilometers an hour on the ovals. Maximum downforce / minimum ride height rear, minimum downforce / maximum ride height front. Once the front end picked up off the ground, the car was essentially weightless with effectively zero drag. Useless for racing except round the Test track with its two kilometer straights, but lots of fun.

I look forward to a "Skills Team" tune house when those leaderboards go up. 👍

I remember that... the Escondido was the popular car for that...

For me that time will come later.. now I have far more important things to focus on. No other reasons..

We'll have many years to do the hotlapping I'm sure.. :p

We are currently using our Xbox 360s for party chat whilst playing GT5. Silly really that we're having to do this because its a feature that should be on the PS3.

I shall send you a PM with my tune for London if you like as its an excellent tune although you will be amazed at the settings!

I only spent a few laps on the TT but chose to try a different car so went with a Civic (can't remember exact model) and see if it would make a dent. No chance.
I realise you Skills guys need to be taken seriously with them times and the rep you all have.
I thought I was pretty fast but came at least a second and a bit off the mark in the Honda.
Guess I'll have to tune the same car you're all running and see what I can do.
(I wish me luck)
