I know there's a forum for PSPs in the gaming section but it seems pretty dead compared to this one, so I hope it's ok if I post this here, especially as it's about hardware and not games.

My brother just got a Vita for his birthday, I had a look at it and it's nice and everything but I'm not really interested in any of the games except for Wipeout 2048, and it's a bit big (it reminds me of my old Game Gear!) It got me thinking, though, about something I've had in the back of my mind for a while, which is that I'd quite like to buy a PSP Go!. I'd probably only get a handful of games for it (GTPSP, Metal Gear games, Wipeout Pulse) and load my PSOne classics onto it as well, so I don't need a UMD drive. I know the games are more expensive on the PSN Store, but as I'm only interested in a handful of them I don't really care.

So, can anyone recommend or de-recommend (not sure what the opposite of recommend is) it? I can get a used 'like new' one from Amazon for about £70, so it seems quite appealing to me, or I could get a new E-1000 for £85 but I'm very put off by the lack of wi-fi. I also prefer the Go!'s design to the usual PSP but I'm a bit concerned about the ergonomics for the larger-handed gentleman such as myself. It also seems like the solid state nature of the hardware when lacking the UMD drive will last longer than a normal PSP, but that might just be grasping at straws, I don't know.

I will most likely buy a Vita when the slim one comes out, though, because there's no doubt it's an awesome piece of kit and I'm sure there'll be some games to tempt me by then, I just wish they'd make a proper blu ray-filling Wipeout for the PS3... Not sure what that's got to do with the price of eggs in China, but even so.

If all you want is those games, then it would be cheaper just to find normal PSP and get the UMD's, you would save money because the prices on PSN hardly ever drop, and if they do its not much. Or just buy a bigger memory card and download the games to the PSP if your goal is not to carry UMD's around. Imo the normal PSP's are better because they are bigger and can use UMD's which are really cheap to buy now.

I have the Go and I like it, but yeah... you'd be better off going with a non-Go. Cheaper, and cheaper games too.

I got a go free with my phone a few years ago, and I must say I wouldn't recommend it.. I actually got 10 free games with it on a promotion from Sony to try and sell more of them, including GTPSP, Little Big Planet etc, but it has only been played on a handful of times after the first few weeks, because it is quite hard to hold and the games are to be honest uninspiring, and you can't get any of the cheap deals from Gamestation etc on pre-owned games, as they are all full price from the PSN Store. I'm glad I've never spent any money on it at all, because I would want it back...

Well that's certainly unanimous! Can anyone give me the model number of the PSP I should be looking at? I think this is why I don't have one yet, I get confused by all the different numbers and letters and don't care quite enough to work them out. I might just go with the cheapest, but I'd quite like a nice screen... And wifi of course. I'll do some research and see what happens.

Thanks guys.

Get a slim of ebay, they are dead cheap and are a lot better than the 1000.

I've got the PSP 3003 and find it to be very good for most of it's capabilities. Remote play is a useful function when wanting to download stuff onto the PS3 but you want to watch telly instead of the PS3 homescreen! Control layout is ok, sound is as well as can be expected and the graphics seem very good for what you actualy pay for the unit. As others have said, UMD's are very cheap and you can get a good film collection together for very little layout!

PSP-3001, that's the one I have and it runs 6.60 Pro B9 just fine, its a load better jailbroken. But the 3001 is very good.
