Just came across the in-game news feed....

"With the coming Gran Turismo 5 update planned for March 2012, we will be starting a new service on gran-turismo.com worldwide, called "Gran Turismo 5 Photo Stream".

In GT5 Photo Stream, photographs taken in the photo mode of Gran Turismo 5 and set to "Share" will be shown in a list on a webpage, and be made possible to view by anyone.

The photographs will continue to change periodically, the online ID's of the photographer will NOT be shown or made public, and there is no evaluation system or the like for the photographs. This is a service which simply introduces what kinds of photographs are being taken in Gran Turismo 5 by players around the world.
Please be aware that any photographs set to "Share" after the start date of this service will be released publically on the web by GT5 Photo Stream.

We hope you'll look forward to the start of this new service."

Edit: I know this is about Photomode and there is a Photo Fourm, but this is news. I'm not sharing a photo. Sorry if I'm wrong.

A nice idea, it will be interesting to see if the photos are screened or if anything will be shown, perhaps even those highlighting some of the game's weakpoints.

Hopefully this indicates a larger update accompanied by DLC in March.

What a brilliant idea!

Hopefully though, it won't be inundated with rubbish blurry poorly taken pics...... that would just ruin it for me.......

If this means that the photo mode is expanded even further than it is already in GT5 itself, aka more locations, camera options, allow standards in photo mode etc etc. That would be awesome.

Oh,

I whish for
... lots of stuff in the stunning quality like posted in the photo-contest sections of this forum
but I fear
... there will be displayed masses of ugly photos like the ones I'm able to produce.

Great idea... looks like PD is implementing all the stuff planned for GT5... this is the kind of feature I bet nobody was expecting.

And as amar stated, looks like March will have an important update :)

Well, it seems the photomoders are getting some love after all, maybe we'll get some new locations :sly:
But as others have pointed out, it'll probably mostly be filled with cruddy, f/45, 1/8000 snapshots, seeing as theres no voting system.

In my opinion, another waste of resources and further deviation from "The Real Driving Simulator."

It has been said on this forum that PD currently operates with +/- 40 employees, how many man hours have been spent on development? How many will be spent on implementing and maintenance?

The concept itself is trivial. As others have pointed out, with no grading system in place it will devolve into massive collection of uninspiring stills. How much traffic do they truly expect? How many players will actively browse the stream more than once? Another small, albeit, still a deviation from the game. Not unlike the "Barbie dress up mode" racing suits and helmets. Yes, the content is entertaining upon release, but how much longevity does it actually have?

The longevity comes from the basis of the game; driving. And there is a very long list of items PD should be prioritizing way ahead of any small gimmick to its photo mode.

Could one say that this content is a nail in the coffin for a future livery editor? Surely PD could not stream uncensored photos. Or maybe the opposite, maybe this is the opening move for an expanded photo and livery editor to come?

Considering the proper news post mentions nothing about copyright protection of the photos shown, I'm somewhat skeptical about this...I'd personally like usernames to be shown with photos, and only downscaled (and possibly watermarked) images to be used. I've had dealings in the past as a photographer with copyright theft and I know how bad it feels to know some 🤬 is passing your work off as their own.

I know this might seem irrelevant to a racing game, but there is no way I would share my work on an anonymous list where someone could easily steal and take credit for it.

I think this feature was planned from the beginning. Just like the remote B-Spec... that's why they are implementing it...

Head.. Nail.. Hit.. 👍

Except I can do without the Livery editor. Focus on the driving like you said!

40 employees? You probably meant 140, although it's more than that, now. Who knows how many people are working on GT5 updates.

Seriously, if this feature is a waste, then the standards getting the wheel selection is the most pointless addition to GT5 by far. Sharing photos seems like a part of the reason for having photo mode. It's a part of the essence of GT's purpose and culture. We all have something in common. Why not have a universal photo cache like FM?

Not all GT players check GT dedicated forums and maybe even less check them for photos. And you must know that there are a ton of people that are dedicated to the photo mode. That part of the game was given the least attention to in the updates.

Side-note
replying to someone's egotistical reply and only because it's all the time that "that person" has a downer comment to make on GTP no matter what...

Isn't FM's photosharing process a hassle and isn't it the only way to share photos?
I could be thinking about FM3, because I've only heard other people mentioning this.

Valid point !!!

I think GT as a brand is really pushing to create a platform for the virtual car experiences (racing, driving, testing, learning, photography, chatting, etc.).

Look at the stuff they develop aside from the driving part: GT TV, GT academy, Redbull X1 (and all the other concept cars PD helped develop)...driving suits, many things that take a lot of thought but have almost no value-added for the video game fan, but may contribute to some kind of new platform....

All the stuff they are doing with GT5 may be transferred into GT6 directly. So in a way, for those are saying GT5 is weak, new features are useless, etc, maybe GT5 is just a launching pad for something bigger. Maybe we are just seeing the development of GT6 in progress....

+1

Besides, its not like using this new feature is mandatory.

This. Exactly this.

Next there will be a useless pokemon game with the useless museum cards, or a useless music maker for the useless horns.

Wake up, PD.

Wake up, PD.

I avoid posting messages like this since they tend to create a windstorm of controversy. Of course, I completely agree with you guys though. 👍

I think this feature was planned from the beginning. Just like the remote B-Spec... that's why they are implementing it...

But surely there are more important features planned from the beginning they could be adding before this?

It's just an added extra feature that increases replay value somewhat. Not everything about Gran Turismo had to be about ultra real grip pirellis and camber angles.

I'll probably get flamed for this.

SimonK
Do explain how.

I'm not him....but it increases replay value because you're going to go back to Gt5 to take a picture and send it to the photostream, then you see it there and you say "Oh cool" and you wanna do it again.
See how it works? ^^
