Do explain how.

If you don't mind, let me try... Some of us play GT just because of racing, but some years ago (I think in one of the pre-GT2 interviews, Kaz said that his objective with Gran Turismo was to become way more than a simple video game, the objective was to have a big car encyclopedia where you could experience all aspects regarding the cars, driving them, know more info about them, etc...

If that's the objective, they are getting there. These experiences may not add nothing for those just looking for the driving aspect, I agree...

But, see the size of Gran Turismo community and you'll see that we are WAY more than that. There's a lot of guys really involved with photomode. Serious stuff, awesome works. In the marketplace there's a lot of collectors...

Well. Most will continue to argue but since the very first time GT added those big descriptions and info about the cars it isn't a simple racing game anymore. A simple racing game will feature the name of the car and some engine/weight info only...

Again, those looking only for a simulator or racing game, fail to see these stuff as good things. Those who are car lovers and like the whole experience, know about the car, drive concept cars and stuff (like me) just think that the merrier, the better. I spend a lot of time choosing the color of my car, driving it, just driving it on a road or track, sometimes slowly, trying to feel most of the car that I can. I like to read the descriptions of the car, I've learned some things about cars I didn't knew before Gran Turismo. When you got 1000+ cars with those extra info, that's a lot of added replay value. FOR THE "CAR PEOPLE".

Just tell me wich games had the ammount of info GT has... the first need for speed games are the only ones I can remember. (The first game, produced with Road & Track was amazing in that part). After that the whole mess started to happen... they became only "racing games"...

And now, think about it. If they ever release a game without the whole package and without photomode for example, it won't be the "full" Gran Turismo anymore... A good example is GTPSP, I just got it and I'm loving it. It's a good, quick and fun racing game. But I know its ages from the full GT experience I'm used to.

Exactly what I was thinking. Since I take A LOT of pics, this will be super sweet to share with everyone. They really should have a rating system though.

I'm kinda glad they don't list the username. The last thing I want is some 12 yo kid harassing me on the PSN just because he thinks I did a crappy job.

Come to think of it, I guess that's how PD feels everytime they release a game, only to have it torn apart online.

I dunno about you guys, but Jenkins is definitely gonna make the site!

Some people don't understand, nor can they seem to accept that the livery editor (for example) isn't coming until GT6.

I thought Kaz said that the livery editor was coming to GT6. Am I mistaken?

http://www.g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/post/718312/gran-turismo-6-confirmed/

In an interview with IGN, Polyphony Digital's Kazunori Yamauchi mentioned that his company is working on Gran Turismo 6, saying, "Of course we're working on GT6 already and I think what really will be the separating factor is something that we can't update through a DLC is something that obviously has to be saved for GT6. Things that we can provide through DLC we will, so that's really the market difference."

With this console-cycle nearing its end, and the notoriously long development time for Gran Turismo 5, you have to wonder if the title is planned for the current generation of PlayStation, or will it hit the PlayStation 4?

Hinted perhaps, but so vague there's really not telling. Everything seems pretty speculatory, and I won't put much stock into it until it's proven either through press release or pre-release review. Remember the YouTube feature?

That's all very nice but doesn't really explain how uploading photos to the web increases replay value? Don't people who care about photos already post them online anyway? I don't see how them being on the PD website is going to make you come back to the game time and time again.

I think with the Photomode section of GTP being 4th, behind the general forum, the Q&A, and the Marketplace, I think anything that gets added to the quite in all honesty bare selection we have to work with now, the same locations, limited Premium cars, Limited tracks and options, anything we get that's directed for us, we'll use till we squeeze every last ounce of use out of it.

So what was the selling point for this project at the brainstorming table?

How about free advertising and marketing value? Very little capital upfront (just man hours for development, maintenance and storage) and your users do all the work for you.

Except, what happens if a majority of users started to troll this stream with in game photos of GT5's worst renditions? Standard cars that where simply sucked over from GT4 and given no clean up.

Given enough time and motivation, maybe if I began trolling the stream with thousands of RUF's, PD might get a hint of what I want (but that's for a wish list thread). :) Or, appealing to a more deviant side, how about a coordinated effort to post only the vast array of MX5's and GT-R's?

I do appreciate the point some members have made with this feature furthering the experience for those that love cars and I do agree that is GT5's goal; a complete experience. Given that no one knows what this feature will encompass, all the dialog in this thread is a subjective take on a limited amount of information. And upon it's ultimate release, it may be the best thing since Spa.

On a side note however, even if this is a failed project, it has already done it's work. Just as a politician or actor may create a small drama just before an election or premier. Nothing too big, but just enough to get everyones attention, if for only a minute.

^^ I think the system only lets us put a handful of pics to share online anyway - possibly 10. That will narrow down the choices!!

Considering the proper news post mentions nothing about copyright protection of the photos shown, I'm somewhat skeptical about this...I'd personally like usernames to be shown with photos, and only downscaled (and possibly watermarked) images to be used. I've had dealings in the past as a photographer with copyright theft and I know how bad it feels to know some 🤬 is passing your work off as their own.

I know this might seem irrelevant to a racing game, but there is no way I would share my work on an anonymous list where someone could easily steal and take credit for it.

Good point. :)👍

But it will always be PD's content, doesn't matter if YOU have took the photo. Ever noticed the GT5 watermark on every picture? Just look at youtube, even a video clip, recorded from TV with a crappy mobile phone can taken down by them. :ouch:

Imo the "Gran Turismo 5 Photo Stream" update is just a scam to get some nice pics from us, to use them for their commercial business, or to get some visitors on their page. :D

Couldn't agree more. If in these days sopa and whatever bills are making such a huuuge fuss about copyright...it wouldn't look very good for SONY/PD to publish something like this.

I wouldn't like to see my latest photo being claimed by someone else who just started playing....:yuck:

I believe this is their way of checking what the players are using the photomode for. The fact that it will be kept anonymous and no way of voting for it, is to keep all players at the same level. Something like, "everyone can take great photos". They didn't took away Spa and SSRX away from players who couldn't buy them.

So I understand what they are trying to do, and yet, at the same time...I don't want my photos to be stolen.

Good point. :)👍

You do make a fair and goo point. 👍
But the way I see it, I'm using a software developed by PD, so that I can create a photo. :)
Think of it a camera branded "Gran Turismo 5" :sly:

Sounds like a cool and innovative idea :)

Maybe in 2009 when FM was doing it.

Hahaha, not hating but this is old hat, what would make it more interesting is if they had Photomode Competitions judged by PD staff (the art directors at least, and of course KY) with exclusive GT\PD themed prizes(shirts, mugs etc).

I like this idea! For those who can't do fast lap time, they can at least post great photos. :dopey:

ZeGermanBastorD has a great point. But imagine when your photo (WITH your nick underneath it) would be used as an advertisement picture as some poster or on their website.

Also 100% agree with Tier 2 Racing and dudeondacouch. (here #25)

Innovative? You're kidding, right? Tell me you're kidding.

I have never seen a game that allows one to browse in-game photos easily, over the internet that doesn't require people to first put them on a computer. None of the PS3 games that I own have anything similar. Forza may do it* (wouldn't know, I don't have XBL) and PC sims probably do it (my PC isn't good enough to run them) but it's definitely new and innovative to me.

Just chill out mate, this is a new feature that I am very interested in. Some fantastic photos will be spawned by it, which I'll be able to flick through easily while drinking my morning cofee ...

*EDIT: Hadn't read whole thread when I posted this. Apparently Forza does do it...

But it's still a PS3 innovation, is it not?

I'm surprised no one has mentioned this but I'm thinking, and could be wrong but if we get any new content (DLC wise), we could get some "photo worthy" or what PD considers exotic cars and some new photo locations to go along with this new photo service. I'm guessing maybe one freebie (like the 86 GT) to tease and the rest paid DLC. Maybe even have a new icon on the menu to the right of the Photo Travel icon like those who downloaded the Speed Test DLC now have a Speed Test icon.

I can't find the thread that had a list of locations that didn't make the final cut. At least I thought there was one.

On a side note, I see new member "Space Empire" is back. Maybe he/she will drop some hints in the days to come. What could "PD is making things better and better, I think." mean?

Yea is that why in forza 4 i cant copy a photo to my 360.. i have to copy it to a usb stick then the 360.. any ways GT5's pics blow any of forza's pictures out of the water, none look remotely real..

I'm just happy that the photos I take get shared more. With me doing the Car of the Week review, it'll be nice to have the chance for my photo to show up somewhere other than here or photobucket, and I'd actually enjoy the anonymity of the feature because there will be less retardation.

Did I also mention I'm happy to take just about anything PD will give me for free?

Told ya, total fanboy slut.

Can't the photos be digitally watermarked? Do that and add a little user-name text-type thing in the corner, and they've done all they can to stop "copyright" issues.

I'm also absolutely certain that every single PD employee is working on this feature and nothing else, leaving all the other planned features and fixes sitting idle while they do so. It's absolutely not possible to be collectively working on several things at once, and it's certainly not possible that some things take less time than others, so it's even less possible that if some things are done before other, more important updates, those "unimportant" things will be released first.

Absolutely shameful.

EDIT: Also, "important" March update? Amar knows something...

Reading some of thread makes me believe that GT5 will go done in history as the console game with the largest ever after sales support (how many gig's of updates are we up to now?) yet alot of the users still complained as they think its all totally pointless.

However, I bet its them same users who complained at release that GT5 was "feature" light.

Will this new feature change my GT5 experience, probably not. However, I welcome its inclusion as I'm sure others will get use out of it. Anything that expands GT5 can only be a good thing for the franchise's future.

This. Exactly this.

Next there will be a useless pokemon game with the useless museum cards, or a useless music maker for the useless horns.

Wake up, PD.

They never will wake up. A-Spec sucks hard in GT5. Seasonal A-Spec is a lame, limp wristed mess. They shouldn't be doing anything else until the core parts of GT5 are fixed.

However, I bet its them same users who complained at release that GT5 was "feature" light.
You bet wrong.

Photomode isn't a core aspect of GT5 ? Please go to the photomode section and say that.
We hardly ever complain (minus the Lens Flare removal/addition/removal) About anything, we're grateful for everything we get while most of the rest of the forum complains about other crap. Just get rid of the game then if it sucks so bad.

What makes you think that the people that have worked on this new feature are the same that work on online/DLC or something like the physics engine?.

Chances are, this new feature was probably done by the same people who worked on the photomode to begin with. They probably have no other area of expertise that there skills could be used for.

So, do you think they should just sit on their hands doing nothing, till those developers who are responsible for what you regard as "core parts" that need fixing, get to work.

Man, do I wish people would learn about games development and studio's before posting. It would save so much forum space. Do you people really thing a PD employee goes to work in the morning and says "you know what, i'm gonna do something different today and make a car for DLC"?

Are the naked girls still at Cote d'azure? I'm making an entire photostream dedicated to them.

No

Don't tell me what to do.

Man do I wish fanboys would quit making excuses for KAZ/PD's failures.

Good for you. But just because some are perfectly happy with GT5 doesn't mean the issues instantly vanish and others are going to feel the same way. Complaining about A-spec is perfectly legitimate and it isn't a minor issue with the game either.
