Just seeing the thread title alone, I knew this would be stupid.
Yeah but it sucks us in doesn't it?
Obviously taking things away that are already created is a silly strategy and not to be taken seriously. But looking ahead it is legitimate to discuss whether or not PD's focus should be narrowed or certain areas should get more resources than others. I'm not sure anyone would argue against the viewpoint for example, that making both the offline and online experience better is good for the game as a whole. After all, you can have all the pretty cars and tracks you want, but if the game doesn't provide you a place to race and compete with them that's challenging and of adjustable difficulty, it's just a hotlapping game and that doesn't appeal to a lot of people.
One can call GT a "
driving sim" all they want, but it's for most it's a racing game, whether you are racing against the clock, AI or humans and it's the racing experience that lacks the most in this game. Imagine for a moment we are in opposite world. GT has created a stupendous offline career mode. Endlessly challenging, difficulty sliders so everyone is challenged, AI that actually race at your speed, proper cars in proper series, alternate paths for your career, races added through updates etc. Now imagine all the community features have dropped for online and you now have an Online Career Mode as well, where you can race online in match races and earn decent money and have an online career. Some kind of driver rating system tells you how clean your opponents are and hosts/PD can set minimum standards as to who can enter. Set races run at fixed times with a very narrow focus so many cars are competitive, like 400PP FF's, 475 PP MR's etc. Separate bank accounts and garages for your online and offline career maybe (or combined, your choice). Every night you fire up the PS3 you can race a TT, a Seasonal, Offline Career, Online Career, and know for a near certainty you're going to get a competitive race no matter who your opponents are. Imagine the friggin' level of excitement!@!!!
If the racing part of the game was so over the top that everyone was going nuts over it, there would be far less hue and cry over sounds, livery's, bugs and glitches etc. Everyone would be too busy enjoying the fantastic racing experience. Yes those things are important and yes there would still be talk about them, but it wouldn't be the focus it would be a side issue.
