I think you're mixing up sympathy for empathy.

No, I know the difference. In my previous post I said why would any feel empathy for people who put their lives at risk? Why would we want to imagine ourself in their position?

I guess we have so many mature members here who all know right from wrong and are straight as arrows and never have fun - if we constantly lived in a little box to protect us from the world then we wouldnt have any fun - now im not saying im all pro to this little game but what i am saying is that im sure we have all done silly things for fun.

When i was younger i done many risky things including things at school like this and me and my mates still to this day end up doing silly things all the time.

Life would be so boring without experimenting with things or doing things that your not really suppose to be doing.

Obviously you can warn people not to do things but its not neccessary to say nasty things them or say 'i hope you do die by doing something this silly' *cough*DWA*cough*

Seriously?
How else can you even begin to understand if you wont imagine yourself in their position.

I've always thought that empathy came somewhat naturally to humans... apparently I was mistaken.
Thanks for the confirmation.

When I hear about people losing relatives, people being murdered, children being kidnapped then I always imagine myself in that persons position. So it does come naturally to me but not when the situation is people self harming.

Humans don't empathise with idiots trying to kill themselves for fun.

This thread is so full of stupid that other forums are probably mocking it right now.

Where's the plug, doctor?

This was a fad back when I was in middle school. We called it California Dreams.

Same here, a fad that everyone thought was cool, though in my middle school (which was an international school as I was living in Germany at the time) it got the name American Dream.

Some girl did it while we were on a school trip and everyone at the hostel we were staying at went mental. I seem to remember finding it funny at the time because it seemed like a real idiotic thing to do.

Here's a hint - if you're so damn BORED how about you go out and try to ACHIEVE something?! Even if that achievement is something ultimately pointless like trying to see how high a jump you can land on your mountain bike, at least it's actually DOING something other than simply assassinating time in the simplest and most brain-dead methods possible.

Ripper Vedas was a guy who specialized in doing stupid stuff just because he was bored and too stupid to think of any even marginally constructive way to entertain himself. Great role model, huh?

Kids in the '60s took drugs because they thought it would expand their minds and show them new ways to think, even though they ended up being wrong. Since then, it seems people just do stupid crap like this so they can avoid thinking. I mean seriously, how unimaginative to you have to be before something like this seems like entertainment?

This whole thing was just a short passing fad. Only a couple people were talking about it (apparently ALOT of people were doing this yesterday), but other than that, nobody cared.

I don't know about you, but school brings out a whole different personality in people. In some classes I try my best to not fall asleep and am quiet, while in other classes I can't keep control of myself (I like to call it selective ADHD :D) Some people will do stupid stuff with their friends for no reason at all but to have a little fun or do something interesting.

A lot of people do have a creative imagination, but don't have the money, or the environment to do anything. I'd sure as hell like to customize my bike a little more, and go through some trails, but i live right off a very busy highway/road type thing and am confined to my block.

Just picture this. You have 40 minutes to spare, you don't have your ipod, you can't go on the computer, you can't watch tv, you can't play cards, your not tired so you can't go to sleep, etc.... what do you expect a bunch of immature 15-17 year olds to do, sit there and be quiet for 40 minutes? not gunna happen. Im not trying to justify stupidity, but when your bored with a whole bunch of people, somebody is going to do something stupid for amusement.

This thread is going nowhere, and wasn't a good idea seeing that most of GTP thinks im a complete retard now. I'm going to close it, if you want to reply to what i just said, PM me.
