Yes, for sure bring in qualifying fro all races (with the option to skip and just start last).
I like the idea of flying lap qualifying for short races too, and prizes for pole. 1 lap to gain your starting place on the grid. This way the AI have to be a little bit clever too, rather than the back half of the pack having no chance of winning and only really having to beat the car that starts pole.

In general public races I think qualifying would take too long, but they could do something with the TT rankings so that the guys that have top spots in TT could start up front.

I am all for qualifying, and GT5 should keep track of number of pole positions:tup:

Not really, the host could just either make qualifying a certain time length or not have it all. (5-10 minutes should suit most races)

If the host choses anything then it would be a priivate race. When public races are held most people just want to have fun. Fun doesnt include shaving off tenths of a second, and waiting 10 minutes to race, for most people. My point is even more valid if they keep this ridiculous matching process, which takes 2 or 3 minutes sometimes. Then you want to add 10 more minutes on top of that?

Like I said, I am for qualifying, but for the majority of people who want to get online and do a few quick races qualifying is out of the question.

I forgot to say that most major forms of motorsports only give you one, or two laps to qualify. This would be ok for NASCAR but it would take too long for slower cars on long tracks.

Also, I like passing other cars. What is the point of running essentially TT with cars behind you? I love starting last in GT5p and coming out 1st, but I HATE starting last and being 1st or 2nd after turn 1. Private races will be the greatest thing for GT since FFB wheels.

With much larger fields of cars & rolling starts giving pole position almost
a 10 second lead in some races, qualifying is much more important. :)

More important for winning, not having fun. Why do you want a 10 second lead?

I did 2 races at the 800pp Int HSR race tonight. (1st standard physics race since I got a G25, 8 months ago) Both races had guys with less 800pp. That put an exclamation point on the end of my standard physics career.

You misunderstood, I was referring to the AI in GT5P getting such large head starts. I would just prefer to have the opportunity qualify as close to the front as possible, but on my own merit. :)

For anything with a rolling start I want to qualify, I cant stand the starts in GT5p where the leader is all ready half way round the track before I even cross the start line!

Yes, for every race. And every race should start from standstill...

Qualifying for all races, most definitely.

Revived a dead thread admittedly... could've made a new one... anyhow...

Have we had anything new on this? I mean this could be great...

16 cars and starting at back could be crap...

I mean with 16 cars you could always have the 'Trulli' AI, he quals well but not as fast in race, so can mean you don't always qual 1st, other IA could have other 'personalities', quick in race, hard to pass, crash prone etc... Heck if they all had names you could learn to know what you're up against, qual & race...

But if you do put in a blinding lap you could be pole...

Other things are how does it work 15 or 30 min session or single flying lap... both have advantages and disadvantages and ramifications to where you qual. Heck could be a mixture depending on kind of race...

I would love to see a qualifying session for online. When I race against my friends on FM3 our laptimes are always very similiar and because of this the outcome of the race is normally based on your random starting position on the grid.

How this should work is the host has the option of setting qualifying on or off and also how long the qualifying session should be i.e 5,10,15mins. However if GT5 does have qualifying online then collisions should be switched off during this period.

It would be welcome for single player, with a small prize for pole. Just an optional running lap, like the old days.

As for online, things could get a bit blurry. Quick races (GT5P style) with or without a single quali lap (with the option visible before entering the event).

For private lobbies, the options should flourish with anything from no qualification to 20 minutes sessions allowing tires and set-up changes (but no power/weight intervention).

I hope they give us the ability to set things up according to the situation. Another detail to add to the checklist.

Although I never used qualifying in GT1, it would be very useful in this game with 16 cars now on track. It would be a huge pain starting from behind all those cars every race.

If it's in this game, I'll defenitely be using it. So a big yes from me.

An option for all races would be good, but only for those who want to use it 'cos I wouldn't!

Quali yeahh
it's very important for me and i think for the whole game
i cant wait for a online 2 hours race with 30 min quali

ps: i am not sure but i think it's confirmed

Not to bothered about qualifying. I mean it makes it easier and I don't want that especially if I find myself out-qualifying the A.I. all the time.

ONline though...yes please.

I did a search and didn't find a similar thread, so forgive me if this has already been discussed.

In GT1, you were able to do qualification rounds to determine your place on the starting grid or decide to skip qualifying at all and start the race in last place. GT2, GT3, and GT4 all did away with qualifying for the most part, which was still okay because there were only ever 5 other cars to overtake at a time.

But now, with the addition of 10 more cars to the track in GT5, I think it is unacceptable to always have to be in the last position at the start of a race by default; especially if it is a rolling start. GT5 is a large jump in realism compared to its predecessors, and I feel that PD has no excuse not to add such an easily implemented feature and necessary feature into GT5.

Commence discussion.

I voted for Quali option in all races. If someone does not want Quali they can uncheck the box during the race setup!
:)

With tougher AI, I would prefer to have an option to qualify. I would like to see this option in online events as well. GT5 is supposed to be THE console race simulator, right? Or, that's what I've come to understand from all the attention it gets in the console community. So, let's be realistic and qualify.

Since ky mentioned that he wants to implement as many nasar rules as possible I hope they are done properly. 1 car at a time, 2 laps and your done.

Ha! As long as the tire is being affected i'm all in for quali, you can't always have a perfect tire condition. It's my issue in GT5p that the player can do a perfect lap with 10000 laps and not having to worry about their tire. It's the reason why we get so many over the top time trial rockets around GT5p and TT demo. We need visual damage, tire damage, mechanical damage, and pit stop for all professional race qualify, even time trials to even the playing field.

Qualifying in online mode is a must. If you get a pole here it means something.

For 'GT Life' qualify for all races like in GT3 thank you :) I'm just going to move to the front and win anyway, may as well let me start there :sly: I think the way GT5 seems to have things setup (like GT Legends and so on) there will be qualifying for every race and I'm hoping it's an open qualification too.

My view on qualifying, is to apply it to all races with laps of 10 or more, make it as a option to use similar to what was done in GT1, paying credits if you pole.

If you decide not to qualify, then you would start at the rear. Assuming the races in GT5 will be more challenging, I think the importance of position is will be greater. :)

Offline, it probably won't matter much, knowing how PD set up human vs. AI races. ie. "can you push past 15 cars in one lap?"

Online I expect it'll be thoroughly awesome, just for the sake of it. The option to switch off collisions would be handy I guess, but in good lobbies it shouldn't be necessary.

I would also really like to see qualifying for online play. There are always going to be some people that just try to spin you out at the start or go in the grass on the inside of the first corner to ram you off the track. If you can out qualify these people you won't have to worry about that.

Option to qualify for all races

If you think about it, Its a "racing Simulator" so I would expect to have Qualifying in every race.

I think the big issue is how do you handle online racing and qualifying and placement?

I guess we'll have to see

Not being pedantic but its a driving simulator.

I'd definitely like the option to qualify for each race. It can make the race more exciting often as I enjoy seeing if I beat their times or not. I'm not sure if it would work online. There could be an option to join races with or without qualifying maybe?

With private lobbies you can do an honor system qualification lap (even in GT5P with the test run) and set up your grid positions accordingly. Even in Prologue the guys I race with will occasionally on a rolling start, turn around, find a grid position, and in a text chat menu set "Go at 50'00:000" or whatnot.

I'd preffer qualifying to be in but if I have to start in last place every time (or random online) then I suppose im used to it now.

Ill be very suprised and happy if qualifying is in but it's not going to disappoint if they didn't implement it this time around.

If its not in GT5 I bet we can get it in GT6!
