heres my question, seeing as I have gotten a warning ( and i thank you for only giving me a warning ) If i were to accidentaly use bad language and you caught it, would i be banned? or if i did something completely unrelated would i get banned?

I also am wondering roughly how many people have been given just a warning because i haven't seen any other poeple with warnings other than myself.

I have 2 warnings, but they were for silly things which I should've thought about first. I had just crossed the threshhold into Warnville.

I'm pretty sure (Unless it has changed) We are on a 3 strikes you're out basis. Unless ofcourse you do something really bad

The swear filter would most likely catch it.

Like?

I've gotten a warning, for swearing.

Everybody has a maximum of 30 infraction points – hit 30 and you’re banned.

• A Warning always counts as 0 points.
• An Infraction usually counts as 10 points (in keeping with our 3-strikes-and-you’re-out policy; 3 x 10 = 30).
• We reserve the right to modify the points for an Infraction (for example, we’ll usually give 5 points for less egregious infractions).

Since you just have one Warning, all that means is that we’re trying to give you a nudge in the right direction. You’re in no way in danger of being banned or what not.

As for “other people”: there isn’t any way for you to see who has Warnings/Infractions – you can only view your own. Trust me, you’re not the only one with a Warning. ;)

i think i'm safe from a ban:) i posted with out looking at the thread date, and i got a warning (lucky i only got a warning) but i always check the date now:)

You aren't the only one, matey ;).

I haven't recieved any warnings for a while. Woot.

I think I'm safe. Although Ive done some pretty stupid things like posting in threads without reading first, etc I havent gotten any warnings or infractions. And I think my first permanent ban--which MachOne still thinks that I should obey and leave GTP for--taught me my lessons.

Sorry about the few low quality posts guys... Ill try not to act like that.

@MachOne: Why did you buy premium if you are that close to a ban? You only need to screw up one more time.

Also, just curious, but who was the first person banned on GTP?

3 usless post/spam (2 Der Alta 1 dann)
Discussing Illegal activities. (Famine)

I had a small PM argument with Der Alta about this

Adds up to 20 points as of yesterday with my uber link thread (Der Alta)

I don't have a screenshot becuse I'm using a Mac and they don't have all of the buttons (at least on a G5 PowerBook).

The first person banned was a loooong time ago. So long, that we don't really recall who it was. It was also back when GTP was a rather small place, and the bannings were not recorded.

MachOne felt secure enough in his abilities and thought process that he knew he'd never make another mistake and jeopardize his status. He came back and has changed his posting style, his respect towards others and his genuine ernest desire to help others, which gave him clear enough posting capabilities, that he would not follow his previous path.

Or he's just gotten lucky. :D

Either way, as long as you obey the AUP and present clear concise and thought out posts, you can have a very long membership here.

I wouldn't say "argument" but rather a discussion of why you thread was treated as it was.

Every member of the staff here is more than willing to discuss their actions, via PM. We are all held to the AUP as much as you are, more likely more than you. If you feel that something was done out of line, please feel free to PM the staff member, and eloquently state you synopsis of the situation and what you feel should have happened. The staff here is top notch and will treat honest open discussion as a way to review the action.

If the results of that do not come up to what you'd expect or believe, feel free to pass on the discourse to the admins. Knowing the staff, we've already reviewed it and have a perspective.

Ehh.., I know this thread is really old but atleast I searched.

Anyways, its time for me to renew my subscription and I have -10pts. My question is, do the points ever go away? If someone has been a member for 5-10 years, spent a hefty bit on GTP merchandise and has had no incidents besides the 1 (for example). Would he/she still have the strike?

The lifetime membership seems decent, but with my situation it may be a high stakes deal with 2 strikes left.

On the user control panel it shows you the infraction you have, and it has a section for when it expires. If it says never, then I assume that no matter what you do, even if you become a mod, it's going to stick with you.

Yes ive noticed that, mines says never. I guess ill go with the annual.

A single offense is no problem - just don't collect any others. We can assume you've learned your lesson and it won't happen again, if it hasn't been repeated since. So your lifetime subscription should be safe.

Thanks.., I paid the annual already. I appreciate the reasurance though. There will be smooth sailing form here on.

I have got no warnings or infractions. And wouldn't it be so ironic if a moderator thought this was useless/spam?

Looks like he wasn't as safe as he thought

I actually don't even remember making this thread.

So, I click in "MyGTPlanet" to find my infractions?

I'm not sure if I have any..

Yep, they should be right there in front of you. If there aren't, then I'd assume that you don't have any, a mod could confirm it for you if you're still not sure.

So far I'm a year clean, with only a zero point infraction. Hopefully it'll stay that way.

But a question: If a permanent ban is warranted by 30 infraction points or (I guess) one huge AUP violation, what will give you a temporary ban? I'm assuming you don't get one each time you get points added to your total.

Well i've only got a warning for posting some explicit photos in the funny cat thread, and I went to bed. The next day I checked GTP and I got a warning. (it was by accident really. Was surfing GTP late at night and really can't think properly at the time......) Every since that day, I never posted in the funny cat thread nor the funny pic thread again (for fear of repeating the same mistakes again....) but I do go there and read the posts....

Yeah, better have a warning to remind you of something instead of being clean and got slap with an infraction.... :ouch:

Temporary bans are very rare. We've used them as a time-out for members that we really don't want to ban (like someone who is normally fine, but has a bad run) but who are not getting the hint. For a while, there was a huge rash of "IBTL" posting, and while it was not a huge problem, we nipped it in the bud by awarding IBTL posters a 2-day ban. For a while we would also do temporary bans at user request (like people with exams to study for, etc.), but that got to be a headache too, so we decided to stop doing that.

So temporary bans are really only used on a case-by-case basis in special circumstances.

so, those infractions that have "Never" expiration dates really don't expire/disappear?? how about mine?? i'm not double or triple posting anymore, because back then i don't know how you guys make that "Originally posted by (insert username) then you reply/quote.., so, my infraction will stay as it is???

You answered yourself on your first sentence.

Yes, I believe (though not sure) that even if you break the record for exclamation points they won't budge.

Read my sentece again.....

Its just a reminder of your bad past. Just face it, it will be there forever and it will teach you a lesson. Try to ignore it like I do. You will become a better member this way.... 👍
