Questionable modifications: pictures inside!

A difference: a hot rod is built, not born. The guy had a chance to actually choose what parts to put and modify on the car, and he chose the lol way. Your comparison is absolutely moot. If I was in the show I'd secretly laugh my ass off when I saw that car. It looks like it was made in Mexico ffs, with the exception of the engine. In here it'd have a ford 302 or a 350. Or a Datsun motor. Over there in good ole US of A you can actually have a Boss 429 engine in a car and, omfg, ruin it.


Well the Boss engine is reproduced so there is a chance it might not be an actual Boss. Kasse makes aftermarket reproductions of everything on it. Its kind of like the 427 SOHC in that regard.
 
It's not about "unrelated parts" only, it's about making them work well in conjunction, be it an engine and trans combo that were never paired from the factory, or a bunch of pieces from several cars to make a car look good. This guy didn't.

I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree. Call me crazy or idiotic or some other inane insult, but I like the car and I think it's well put together (except for the side steps, which I've already mentioned.)

Even if it's a repro engine, it's still a waste in that car. The engine is not the point of duscussion, it's the car. When you have a hoodles car that not even a fully chromed/polished Boss 429 can't save from looking ugly as sin, you know something is very very VERY wrong.

It's just that you don't know too much about hot rodding. Don't get mad, it's not meant as an insult at all, but it is evident that you don't have a deep view or knowledge of what a properly put together (not in terms of fit and finish, which seem to be about ok in the blue monstruosity, but in terms of style) street rod -in this case- should be like.

Notice I used the word "be" and not "look like" because I'm not talking about "what everyone else does", I do know that there are no "rules" on how to build a car, any car, but there is a fine, dangerous line that is very easy to cross: when you seek to be different for the sake of being different and you start doing random stupid stuff like widening running boards and putting "HEMI" in your hood scoop, it means that you're simply out of real ideas on how to be truly different but staying in taste and shape, and that sadly is reflected in the end result of the build.

So when you tell me "a T-bucket with a Boss '9" I'll get all excited because in paper, the concept is absolutely balls-awesome. then you show me this car put together with different-color Legos, and it's like "oh, come on". Like I said, when not even a polished 429 can save your car from being a mess, then you really messed it up.

Um that's not how hot rodding works, most do not have all original parts from the same manufacture on the car. Usually the shell is all that is from the original manufacture and that's most times chopped and fabricated for the hot rod purpose. The reason it says hemi and all that jazz, is cause the owner is running a dodge engine or Ford hemi as others said due to what ever personal reasons they believe the motor is best. Most times see these cars running LS1 or LS2 motors in ford coupes or roadsters more than actual fords...

Nothing, absolutely. As nothing kept them from actually turning the car into a cool hot rod instead of the smorgasboard of unrelated parts it now is. A proper T-tub with a Boss 429 would be awesome. This one is laughable.

This about confirms you don't know what hot rodding is, at least in the states.

EDIT: Yeah I see now that it is a ford indeed since you can zoom the image those valve covers are Ford 429s for sure hard to forget for hot rod/muscle car guys. And it looks like it may have a twin dominator carb set up as opposed to the original single carb. So I'd say this guy knows what he is doing when building a car and this should be on the Hot rod thread

Okay, so I know it's close to stock, but that hood thing is awful. There was a red one beside it, but was blocked by a Chevy Suburban.

What's wrong with it? Looks like a normal C3 to me and even if the hood isn't stock which it looks like it is, it's not far off from stock.
 
I didn't think they had those big things on the middle.

Cowls? Hell you should see some of the C3 cowling or scoops, this is one of the more conservative stock ones but other factory ones are massive and ugly and almost questionable. <- see what i did there

It's actually not that bad, strange but no worse than a t-bird I'd say it better. Maybe Ford should have had them produced like this.
 
That Mercury is actually well done, unlike the convertible Impreza that was in here a very long time ago.
