Speaking of convertible Imprezas. Not sure if this is real or not.

The only Subaru convertible in Canada?

People driving on highway 440 in Laval probably noticed a parked Subaru Impreza convertible in front of a dealership recently. It could be, as far as we know, the only Subaru Convertible in Quebec if not in Canada. This car is the creation of Henri and Edouard Adm, the owners.

The project started two years ago when our two car lovers bought a 2000 Impreza coupe that had been totaled. Both the front and back end were badly damaged. For these two, it was the starting point of a new adventure. In the past, the Adm brothers created a limousine made of two Volks Rabbit, then a van from a similar car. "We always had a project to do in our down time", said Henri Adm. "In some ways, it's gift that we're offering to ourselves."

With the help of a couple of employees, including Claude Renvazé and Leonel Ferreira, their now retired body specialist for 27 years, the car was first completely repaired. After that, the top came off. To reinforce the body, strong beams were installed under the chassis. The trunk cover was then shortened and, after a thorough research, a Saab soft top was chosen to protect the leather interior. The top, too long and too large to fit, was then cut to the right dimensions. The whole Saab mechanism was kept and still works without any problems. Finally, the subaru was painted blue, the company's rally cars color.

An expansive project

Nearly 500 hours of wotrk were required to reach the end. Edouard Adm estimates that $30,000 were put into the car. Would a client be able to order such a car? Maybe. But he should be prepared to spend some big money. Unfortunately, Subaru doesn't produce the Impreza coupe anymore, which adds to the complexity of the task. But nothing is impossible. In the mean time, the Adm brothers' convertible is possibly the only such Subaru that we can admire in the country.

I've never liked those roll bars on any convertible, I'd go for that dark blue car if I was ever forced into driving one. It looks like a quality job, but it ruins the car. Who looks for a Suby for a nice cruise down the coast?

Actually, they've had (almost) all Mercedes line of cars in gold and featured in a brochure for Top Gear Malaysia Magazine... I'll get a picture of it if they're still sitting in the news stand. They. Look. Horrible!

Wait.. Page 676? That's my car plate number! Hopefully it's not questionable. HAHA!

Mercedes obviously aren't trying to appeal to people with taste... :ill:

This is a Hamann 599 with a fake crocodile skin wrap. I don't know why the owner did this to it, and honestly, have no idea what to think of it lol. This is starting to become a trend here in the UAE and more supercars are being converted to semi handbags. 👎

You see a lot of cars dressed up like that in London. Mainly over the Summer when the richer residents of the UAE come over because it becomes too hot in their home land.

Not to me.

I used to think that, but then what about cars in the WRC? They have roof scoops, but if it were for ventilation, wouldn't dirt/snow get in there?

It does to them though... Seriously, these people should only be able to buy Vauxhalls. At least then no one will care if its fixed.

It was there for a ventilation purpose because as you know they don't have a comfort of air-condition unlike some GT cars nowadays. On very dusty gravel or snow rallies it also makes an gentle air pressure in the cockpit so that much less sand or dirt or snow particles go into the car. I still remember some couple of years ago in Rally Argentina I believe a Mitsubishi went really fast into a water splash and all the water gets into the roof scoop, into the car and killed the whole electronics

See, I never understood the idea behind making crap cars into cabrios. Isn't half the reason people get a convertible to be seen by other motorists? Who wants to be seen in uninspired boxes like that? Just makes people look broke.

Was the skin created using MS Paint and simply tiling the same square of scales? Roof scoops are just another crevice for wasps and spiders to nest in.

Take a small family hatch-back. Remove all elements of practicality. Add extra weight. Alleviate the chassis of most of it's stiffness. Sell billions of them in a country with notoriously poor weather!

What's not to like dislike about them? ;)

What about good cars, I see here Porsche 911 TurboS Cabrio, Ferrari 458 Spyder, Gallardo Spyder....

Where I'd love to have one, the power of those cars asks for a rigid frame to be really useful.

The only true cabrios are where people try to win weight: AC Cobra, Lotus 7, Ariel, MX5, ...

Most people that buy those cars don't track them (and those that do buy them with that intention typically buy the coupes), so the rigidity really isn't necessary. With the high-end cabrios, you're driving a car that's nice to look at anyway, and you can hear those glorious engine notes all the more clearly with the roof off. It's always an event even going to the grocery store.
