Hi all,

May seem like a odd quesyion but i currently have a logitech driving force gt and the motor in the wheel is fairly loud.. Are any others quiet or others same?

The G27 is practically silent 👍 especially so when compared to the DFGT

I assume you're asking about other DFGT's, in which case, no. None are quite, lol. Unless you unplug the power cord.

I know its a bit padantic but i live in a flat and have a baby daughter constanly worried about waking her! Lol

Could really do with finding a quieter one!!

Don't worry man I know what that's like, I used to keep my partner up with my wheel when I got a bit carried away late at night

Honestly if you're even vaguely serious about simulators (which you must be to some degree to buy a wheel in the first place) I really recommend sinking the money into a higher quality wheel, a lot quieter, far more durable and bring more enjoyment to the game 👍

Logitec G series wheels are pretty much silent unless you're driving a formula car or a rally car... when they can shake a bit and you get some gear noise.

Moved to the steering wheels forum.

I'll also add that some of the noise can be generated by the user. If you are aggressive and make sudden movements with it, then the wheel will be louder than if you were smooth.

G27 is incredibly loud. It can be relatively silent but as soon you hit a kerb or anything special happens it quickly get insanely loud.

T500RS is not all that quiet but it´s very consistant which make it easier forget and never even get close to the high db numbers of the G27. The G27 can be quiter then the T500RS if you don´t run with ffb though.

The Turbo S I do remember as relatively quiet. It has a bit of a high pitched fan and the memory can fail you sometimes. I had the G25 as reference by then which is about as loud as the G27. The helical gears when hell breaks loose don´t seem to help much :)

?? Are you sure? my G27 makes pretty much no noise at all... The only game that it does is dirt3 on the gravel stages....

I am sure. Next time i hook it up i may do a video but having the t500 it don't happen very often. Try rfactor 2 beta at 100 % ffb if you want to know what i mean

I don't have rfactor2 (wont run on my old laptop, I'm running race07 and gtr2 a lot though and its pretty quiet, certainly way way quieter than my dfgt was.

I've ran a G25 and a G27 side by side and you're memory is definitely not serving you well if you think the 27 is as loud as the G25. The G27 isnt too bad, I have no complaints about using it at night, the G25 however is a LOT noisier, the gears make a great deal of noise regardless of the FFB where as the G27 doesnt.

GTR 2/Race 07 should do the trick quite nicely as well if you run high or max with activate the kerb effects.

I am quite sure the max volume which is what´s interesting is about the same on them. Both is unacceptable for my neighbours.

But everything is relative of course it´s entirely possible the DF GT is even worse I don´t have that wheel.

best thing to do is get her used to noise as my missus & kid can sleep through me with 7.2 blaring me laughing etc etc. I could never understand the 'sssshhhh kids are sleeping' reasoning all it does then is make it so if ya dog farts they wake up ;)

but G27 is very quiet & any belt drive ive used is quiet

Dont know if you meant it this way but G27 isnt belt driven. Its driven by the same dual motor setup as the G25 except the used straight cut gears on G25 & quieter helical cut gears on G27. & with belt driven wheels you will only be losing the gear grind/knock noise, But belt dont have as direct a feel as gears plus belts can slip.
In my opinion no wheel is silent but G27 is very quiet until you hit a kurb or go offroad/rally etc then the FFB can be loud (even sounding like its breaking its self). But I find its me/The driver thats causing most of the noise by being too heavy handed/footed.

ya, no didn't mean it like that the G27 with its Helical gears is a lot quieter than all logitecs wheels before it. I was just saying G27 is quiet & belt driven wheels are also very quiet, just lazy typing on my part :D

The sound the g27 makes when you hit kerbs or so is certainly enough to wake anyone in an adjacent room. I would listen to your wife. Why not let here get behind the wheel while you sit in the babys bedroom

I think I will actually try to benchmark the sound output of the two wheels at 100 % ffb settings with my SPL metre. It will not be quite fair due to the T500RS having twice the torque but guess it´s more interesting running it in real world application. Also I haven´t really noticed any difference in sound output on the T500RS. It´s mainly it´s fan and the resistance from the motor/toothed belts that make the sound not the lash in the cogs activating like on the G27. I will also do a test with only centering spring enabled which I recon will be more in favour of the G27.

I find the problem with the G27 is the noise the pedals make. The FFB is fine by itself but the pedals are a problem. It could probably be fixed or mitigated with some strategically placed padding, but... I can't be bothered. Also that might introduce slight deadzone problems.
