Hello, does anyone have any idea how long it will be before the Race Background system is restored to normal, I can barely hear my own car/engine. I could listen for the revs and shift from them, now I can`t even tell if I`m running (audibly).
They did something on the last Maintenance, please return to former set-up.

Come on guys! Is that how you treat a new member? Really?
Tony those details are never disclosed by PD or Sony, we get updates for the game often acompanied by a list of changes made by these updates, but there's also many many changes that are not mentioned in the release notes.
So to answer your question, no one outside Poliphony Digital knows.

Turn the Racing Sound Effects up and Turn the Racing BGM down. Alternatively, change your sound settings in Options to Small Theatre or Large Theatre and this will easily fix your problem along with making the cars sound a little bit better than before.

Hello, I know you guys don`t know personally, but I wanted to see if anyone had heard anything.
I`ll try the sound change to theater but I didn`t like it before. My set up was perfect before, now I don`t even want to drive, but I force myself(lol).

Hi

I don't think the sound changes have worked either. The update I'm sure said something like the sound of the other cars would be quieter when you come up to them so you could here yours, but it sounds the other way around.

Paul

To be honest with you guys, it's not the fact that the engine sounds are quieter that ticks me off, it's the fact that PD have messed up the sound samples for cars.

Yes that`s my experience too.
I took MSTER232`s advice and went to small theater, it helped a little, but I want my old sounds back :irked:.

I know, my bad. I just assumed that right after signing up and reading the AUP, one might use the search?

Anyways, I have some insight on this. What I did was lower the racing sounds volume to 50, I believe (my BGM is off). It sounds a lot lower but it doesn't cancel out the other noises. I use to play with the volume at 10 on my tv, I play it with 18-20 now.

Seems like what PD did was add an automatic noise leveling system to the game, so the best bet would be to turn down the sounds a bit so it has higher peak values. Lower volume, more room till it peaks and hits the limiter. I believe 100 should be the peak (not 100% sure, will test) before sounds cut off so sounds should be set to less less than that.

I keep reading about this problem, but I have yet to experience it. My race SFX is at 120, BGM off, small theater.

Going to try that, thanks.

And you're right, now that I think of it, the (real) problem might be that the game "constantly" mutes/boosts different sounds (your car, other cars, people cheering, etc.). It's very noticeable when you're next to people cheering, don't make any revs... and then accelerate.

Well, They did something, I don`t know what but it`s very obvious and irritating to me.
Even on theater setting the other cars overpower my sound and there`s a delay in the return, which messes up my shifts. Sometimes I can`t hear my car at all.

Have you tried everything suggested in this thread? What Bluntified said worked for me.

Did this only happen to tv sound output ? I played via A/V receiver and my surround sound system, never had any issues so far, set to small theater 5.1 DTS, sound effect 120, no music.

It could possibly be from your PS3's Audio Settings. Have the system "automatically" set them for you when you go into the Audio Settings.

I don't have any trouble hearing my cars.

Audio is set to Small Theater, music volume is set to 50, racing sounds are set to 85. I have audio out going to amplified speakers... up to 650 watts if I like :scared:, but usually have volume level on the amplifier set to "1".

Hello everyone, I`m just gonna live with the new sounds, sorry for any ruffled feathers, better than driving without sounds I guess.
See you down the road

To be completely fair, have you tried any of the suggestions posted on this thread before you decided to live with the new sounds?

He did say he tried the Theatre Settings. So have I, and the sound is still terrible. My S2000 with a nice tuned exhaust suddenly morphs into a Nissan Leaf when I'm near anyone on the track. Major, major screw up on PD's part.

I did something that may have resolved my sound experience with 2.06/2.07 , since I use the PS3 headset, and small theater mode, I did notice sounds getting weird and gain levels were out of whack in different scenarios on track..

anyways, I decided to tinker with the XMB settings on the PS3, and also selected the 7.1 at 44khz mode, deselecting all else, as much as possible, no DTS, no dolby,

fired up the game now in non-virtual surround mode on the headset, set the ingame to "auto" , forced small theater, and now it seems to sound a bit better..

again could be placebo, I didn't drive much these past few weeks,

I liked the whole BGM volume editor in the pause menu, but I think the car sound volume editor is pointless. You might as well just mute the game. I just wish PD would fix this.

I have this problem too but haven't mentioned it on here before as i was just being patient & hoping a future update would fix this problem.
When racing in a group of cars i cannot hear my engine at all & as i drive with manual transmission it makes it very difficult to hear when to change gear. This makes it almost impossible to race competitively.
I've tried adjusting my TV settings & the settings on the game but nothing works. It was fine before & didn't need to be changed.
Hopefully this will be fixed as it's just pointless trying to race with manual transmission & i don't want to use automatic.

My "stock exhaust" ZR1 RM lost its engine noise nearly complete......luckly the "stock exhaust" Z06 RM roars like before :)

Evidently someone/ppl were having sound problems, PD responded to them, made the change, threw their hands up and never looked back. Guess who got the shaft??

Fingers crossed this is fixed with next update mate because for me this has ruined the enjoyment of racing online.

Hello Gyro, this sound update ruined my on & off-line set-up. I noticed it the first time a Ford Gt was close by and I reported it but everyone just discounted it as my imagination.
