daan, what tranny are you using and what setting?
Gearbox is stock

Also, camber settings f/r pls?
As is suspension.

The car was borrowed from Famine (hence the matte purple) and only had an oil change & lightened windows. The oil change took it above 65bhp so the power limiter was used to bring it back below the limit.

Try to keep the Braking as less as possible.
First 2-3 Corners full throttle. Firts Tunnel turn (Turn 4) keep the speed up to 93-98 kph.
Turn 5: Brake a bit and late downshift in 3rd gear => speed should be 79-83 kph
Turn 6: speed around 98-101kph (minimal lift of throttle)
Turn 7: 104-108kph stick to the inner Yellow part (out-in-out)
Turn 8: Straight should be 140-145 kph and brake to 98-101kph to get the uphill section with 100kph
Turn 9: a little braking keep in 4th gear and 89-93 kph
Turn 10: Same as Turn 9 (speed and braking)
Chicane: If you messed up a bit cut it but you will not need it.

=> I managed low 2:04´s and high 2:03´s to get the first at the Turn before the chicane (on the last Lap)

I did it after 4 run´s => train a bit

PS: Above was my way, maybe it doesn´t fit your drivingstyle.

^ mirrored my driving speeds for the win. (drifted leader up the hill after long downhill straight on the last lap, be careful not to hit him lol, or you may lose! ... yeah I did twice.)

My tune: with a G25 wheel,
All driving aids off, including ABS off.
Manual Shift.
Default Tranny.
Weight 2 reduction, with Ballast set to rear (1,000 KG total for restriction entry)
Sport Exhaust, Sport Manifold, Sport Filter. No Turbo.
Camber at .06 / .07 ( I do this camber for ALL Cars and ALL Tracks, it just suits me fine)
Toe settings, 0/0 or, I prefer mild negatives both front and rear for my likes (stability in high speed cornering in high HP cars.)
NO LSD (use stock, if it has one!)
Ride height, lowered front by 5, lowered rear by 10. Increased Springs accordingly. (+.5 / +1.0)
OIL Change, then reduce to 65HP limiter.

Practice Practice! Best to throttle gas at 50-70% in most hard turns, with 1s Break taps prior corner entries (if and when needed) Hug the corners (don't tire screech and don't go too fast that you understeer), slower in, faster out for the win. If touch a wall or car, restart race.

People talked about corner cutting, there is absolutely no need for it here. You can jump under the overpass to the finish line if you want to for kicks.

Have you gone over to the driving options screens and turned down the driving aids?- They can really slow you down. I know this is basic, but sometimes we overlook this screen.

Interesting. Maybe I approached this car and race the wrong way. Time to buy another and give it a go.

TurbEdit: I figured out what I'm doing wrong. I'm not using a wheel! Seriously, I think it's my DS3 controller holding me back here. I can't finesse the car around the corners smooth enough with the stick, nor can I modulate the throttle fine enough to maintain smoothness and hold my speed up. Too jerky in other words. I've come within 1:020 approx. I'm getting 2:08:5xx or so on first lap, then 2:03:5xx for the rest, so you'd think I'd have it in the bag. Seem to screw it up on the last couple of turns when I get him in my sights. Almost like my tires are going south, which they're not. I'm just getting sloppy. I'll have it in a few more runs.

Thank for all the advice. I'm still 2nd! I did notice (after the really helpful info about speeds through corners etc.) that even a quick tap on my DS3 can knock the speed down very quickly. I also had mucked around with suspension settings, and noticed the speed drop off whenever I turned the wheel... I have put that back to default and it's a big improvement.

I'm going to try knocking brake settings down to 1,1, or try and get used to the R/L 3 levers.....

I'll let you know when I win it!!

i was having the same problems you were up to a few hours ago. After watching the youtube video in this thread and putting back in the STOCK transmission and suspension, i was able to win by 2.1 seconds. If you watch the video, you don't have to lift off the throttle at all going into the second tunnel. Also, on the sharp right hander after the long uphill portion you don't need to brake if that's slowing you up too much. just lift off early, rotate, then hit the gas. these two changes to my style really helped.

i'm using a DS3.

Tuning: ECU, 50% power limiter, Racing Air Filter, Sports Exhaust Manifold, Sports CatConVrt, racing exhaust, LOW rpm turbo

STANDARD transmission, twin-plate clutch, semi-racing flywheel, adjustable LSD (10, 20, 5)

STANDARD suspension

5/5 brakes

Stage 3 WR, window WR, Carbon hood, chassis reinforcement, 20 downforce, 147 kg ballast @ 50 rear.

Also, don't give up if you don't get that 2:07 or 2:08 on your first lap. Check out my first two lap times on my winning run:

2:09.3
2:04.9
2:02.9
2:02.9
2:03.1

Good luck!

intresting on the stock suspension setup, could that be what is slowing me down? I mean, I'm not a good driver by any means, but I see Daan's video and see my own racing line and I'm almost spot on, yet my best lap is a 2:09!!! I'm going crazy over it. I'll take the upgrades out and see what happens.

my setting:-

【Fiat 500】
※ new car from dealership : 63hp / 5,500rmp;73.8 ft.lb / 3,200 rpm
※ window weight reduction ( from 1,010kg → 1,000 kg )
※ sport air filter ( from 63hp → 65hp;76 ft.lb / 3,200 rpm )
※ Twin-plate Clutch
※ Semi-racing Flywheel
※ Fully Customizable Transmission ( from 160km/hr → 150km/hr )
※ Height-adjustable Suspension Sports Kit ( ride height -10/-5;spring rate 5.0/4.0 )
※ win 2 seconds+
※ All driving assist off Except ABS1
※ using Automatic Tranmission

1) 2:08.2
2) 2:04.0
3) 2:03.2
4) 2:03.8
5) 2:04.0

hope this help and good luck !!!

It's not cheating, or you would be disqualified. Do you tune your car, then de-tune the engine to fit into the race. This gives you a better power curve.

Well it is, the game is just too stupid. The thing is, even when u know how to
take corners, the settings of the car tell u how fast u can go through a corner. Once again, add me, captn_pommeroy, if u want some "lessons" on how to take corners properly.

I think it's more about taking the proper line thru the corners than anything else.

I didn't do any shenanigans with the ballast or power limiter. Upgraded suspension, tranny, and drivetrain with window weight reduction to get that 10kg off. Ran laps in the 202s with a 207 first lap time.

The video will surely help and also try using the analog stick of the DS3 for gas/brake. The button can apply too much brake, even when just tapping it, and if you learn to use the analog stick, you can better control how much/little brake/gas you want to apply. I golded this race after I stopped using the buttons on my DS3.

The same for the Lotus race, except I jumped from only being able to achieve 4th place to 2nd place. Now, I just need to clean up a couple more turns in that one and I should be able to gold it soon, as my setup is working fine, it's my hands that aren't. :)

Yes it's about being smooth more than the settings on the car. If you're failing to win it's because you're scrubbing too much speed in the corners. You have to use the proper out-in-out line. Tap the brake just BEFORE you turn in. Remember that those tires have a certain amount of traction and if you're using any of it for braking you can't use it for turning. That results in pushing and scrubbing off speed. I haven't watched the vid but I bet he's not turning and braking at the same time.

EDIT

Perhaps a video will help with lines.

Now having watched the video you can see that he brakes at corner entry but is off the brakes before he fully turns in.

On a somewhat unrelated note, that's the exact same place I passed the leader, only I passed on the inside. :D

I noticed that driving smoothly and hardly any braking (only four corners on the track require a bit of braking) can make a big difference. I bought most of the options for the car, but did hardly any tuning. Moving the car weight to the front did make a big difference for me though.

What do you want to hear from him?

That he often drives with comforts or sports tyres?

raVer

I only use racing hards, and thats only on race cars. I never use racing tyres on road cars.
If you want to improve your driving skills then try using sports or comforts a bit more often. If you only ever use racing softs you're gonna struggle on comforts.

I used Sports Air Intake, Sports Suspension, 5-speed close ratio gear box and double clutch plates to beat this one. In the end I think the stiffer suspension did the most to improve the lap times.

As for driving, keeping momentum is the key apart from a decent line.
- At the first tunnel: lift of very briefly and take the turn at 100 km/h
- Turn in as early as possible before the long tunnel and take it flat out. As soon as you feel you can easily make the turn, try to go as straight at possible. The car will make speed instantly when you let the wheel go a bit.
- Outside-inside strategy for the left turn after the long straight. Try to not let the car go under 98 km/h. You need the speed for the uphill section afterwards.

I've tried all the various tunes helpfully posted by others to get that Fiat around Trail Mountain and finish first. I'm still 14 seconds behind the Audi!

The consensus seems to be to keep smooth, fluid, and try not to brake.

Well, here's where I feel I have to brake....

Start off full speed. I can take the first big left hander going into tunnel one without letting off the gas. The first right hander after exiting the tunnel I have to brake to avoid hitting the left hand wall.... I can get around the next right hander OK with full gas, but of course I'm already slowed from the earlier braking.

The next left hander into the tunnel I can usually make if turning early enough, but sometimes I hit the right hand tunnel wall!

The straight is a breather! The left hander at the bottom of the hill.... I have to brake on the straight, but a couple of taps is enough.

Through the shallow S at full speed, and again off the gas and a tap of the brake for the sharp right.

The sharp left at the bottom of the hill again needs the brake.... then it's flat out to the finish.

This generally takes me 2.06+, 3 seconds off what's needed.

I am obviously braking too much.

Any experts care to share???

With these lower powered cars it's not just a matter of not braking. You can actually lose a lot of time if you slide wide on a turn trying to take it too fast. The key is to use the engine to brake you by downshifting when you can and try to slow down sooner so that you can hug the inside of the turns. It's better to brake or slow early and keep a tight turn then accelerate sooner than it is to brake hard and slide into the turn.

After the long straight through the tunnel down shift and take that left hander at the bottom of the hill with very little braking while trying to stay tight on the apex and maintain momentum. You should be able to keep it above 60 mph through that turn if you do it right. At that point you can maintain 60-62 mph up the hill and that should save you some time.

Otherwise just look for turns were you are sliding too much and slow down sooner.

holy crap, I just completed this challenge barely (by a fender) here are my laps.

1: 2:08.xx
2: 2:04.xx
3: 2:04.xx
4: 2:03.5x
5: 2:03.3x

It was the most intense race of GT5 for me. I was jumping around the living room until I saw my AJ Almondcrapper gift car........ 10 attempts for a car I have no desire for doh'!

On to the next one......:nervous:

On a somewhat unrelated note, that's the exact same place I passed the leader, only I passed on the inside. :D
I just thought I'd rub it in a bit by going round the outside. The AI seems to panic and ease off as soon as you get level with them anyway.
