I've been thinking about getting a wheel but there's so many of them? The logitech g25 I hear is the best but for $225.99 I don't know? There's also the hori that is the official ps3 wheel for $60 I don't mind spending the $ either way but I haven't played with a wheel since the first playstation!(and it sucked)
So.what i'm asking is who plays with the wheels and is it worth it and does it make the game more enjoyable?
Also can you feel the tires start to slide out and the gas and brakes is it like the controller where its full gas or full brake when you press down or can you actually hold a constant speed like a real car? Any helpful information is appreciated! I'm a serious racer.just yesterday I played for 5 1/2 hours so I'm looking for quality

G25 doesn't exist anymore. Well at least, I think Logitech stopped making them. The g27 is similar to the G25. Think of it as an upgrade. The g27 is better than the g25. The $60 official PS3 I have never heard of. if you want a cheap and good wheel, get the Logitech Driving Force GT. It's only $120. It's the one I have and I recommend it. If money is not a factor consider the Fanatec GT3 RS wheel. It's an official Porsche licensed wheel. It's a really good wheel.

Does it have the clutch? I'm debating if I want the clutch I mean as far as realistic you can't get better but I feel like after the first week its Gona lose its charm!.
But as far as control can you drift and feel it in the wheel? And i'm curios about the pedals do they just fall to the floor or is it like a real car? Press down half way doing 50mph drop the hammer then feather thru the turn or is it like hitting the x button?

Yes, the G27 has a clutch pedal - a friend of mine has one and I tried it - the thing is frustrating as all 🤬 until you get used to it. However as alternatives you can use the flappy paddle thingys or switch to Automatic. The accelerator and brake pedals are similar to a real car - push half way get partial action - push further and get more action. I use a Logitech driving force GT - it isn't as good as the G27 (the G27 pedals have better feel and the leather steering wheel is nice), but I can't really justify the expense of the G27 since my GT is still working.

I just don't want to feel detached from the game! I've been using the controller for years and I can really feel the car in the corners because I don't use traction control and I don't want to lose the touch ya know. But.I think the wheel will.make it that much more real in cockpit view zoom

I have a T500 RS and it is awesome! It can be bought for around £300 so not overly expensive! You could buy the TH8 RS shifter so you can use the clutch. The T500 RS is the best wheel I've used! I tried my friends DFGT and I was a good 5-10 seconds slower on certain tracks! It is up to you but if your a serious driver I would recommend an expensive one!!

While there are more expensive wheels, I would gladly put my skills with a DFGT against most people. It won't make you 5-10 seconds slower, unless your not used to it. Just like switching from DS3 to a wheel.:)

I'd say you were being one of the elitists that are overpopulating this site, or just full of crap but I've seen your posts before and don't believe that to be true.

So nobody has the official ps3 one? I know it doesn't have the force feedback it vibrates instead that's how they cut the price but there is springs in it so its not sloppy. And it only has 270° of turning instead of the 900° that the g25 has or g27 but its triple the price!
Well when I get out of work i'm going to buy one if I can't find the logitech i'm getting the hori thanks guys very helpful

Not an elitist just can't use the DFGT that well! I'm by no means brilliant on the wheel(only got it in December) but I like the "feel" of it. I was simply saying that i personally prefer the T500!

I agree that there is nothing wrong with the 3 main choices of wheel. They all get the job done. It's just a matter of how much you want to spend.

DFGT - $100 to $149 (no clutch)
G27 - $200 to $299 (clutch and separate 6 speed shifter included)
T500RS - $500 to $600 (shifter extra $150)

In general it's the improvement on the pedals that will gain you time. The DFGT pedals are the weakest link in that package. Great wheel though for the price.

The Logitech G27 is the wheel you want.
👍👍

You WILL feel detached if you are really good with a controller, but you will learn and you will love it. There's a good chance you may have to learn to tune again as well because most controller tunes are not good for wheel. I suggest once you get a wheel to run the amg driving academy events to relearn driving fast. It's a whole different world, the game will be new to you and cars you didn't like may even become your favorites.

I highly suggest the logitech G27. It's QUIET no real noise from the motors or drivetrain in it, It can be had for 250 or less on ebay brand new. It works great doing anything (drift, race, rally) great on any car in the game with the steering sensitivity under driving options set to negative 1 for drifting, around 3 or 4 for racing most other street cars and race cars, and 7 for the formulas. In wheel seetings in options having it set to simulation, power steering off and force feedback in the 7-10 range is the sweet spot.

Somebody mentioned the shifting. On the G27 you can use clutch and shifter, or you can use paddle shifters, or you can click the paddle shifters once to get into that mode and then you can use the normal shifter just banging it right into the gear like a sequential shifter but you are putting it to the gear you want instead of pulling back to shift up and pushing forward to downshift like sequential shifters are.

If you want a toy get a logitec, if you want a proper wheel get a Fanatec or thrustmaster t500

Moved to the correct forum. Try and put your threads in the correct place when creating them. Thanks.

It comes down to price point. For Gt5 the g27 price point can't be beat plain and simple. The g27 wheel is listed in gt5 options for button mapping, Shifter is included, pedals can be flipped right out of the box for a game rig, it has a clutch, progressive rate springs are available for fairly cheap to install in the brake pedal for better feel, as well as throttle and clutch mods for better feel as well. And there is even companies with all the parts to fully hot rod a g27 into a really high end wheel if the user decides they need a better wheel.

The Driving Force GT is $99 new on Amazon right now and the G27 is $225. The G27 has 3 pedals, 6 speed manual shifter, RPM LED's, and some other cool features. However, it lacks the in-game adjustment knobs found on the DFGT. I have no doubt that the G27 is a better wheel, but the DFGT is a much better value. If you're on a budget, I'd highly recommend the DGFT.

He's talking about this wheel for $60. PS3 Wheel by HORI.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004G5TUJM/

It's not force feeback, just rumble. It might be a good starter wheel for you if you aren't sure if you'll like using a wheel or not. If you want something with some force feedback to the wheel then the Logitech Driving Force GT is only $99 on Amazon.

I would rather have a cheap force feedback wheel over a more expensive spring effect wheel. even the ones who do it badly still give some impression of the cars front tires fighting for traction. makes it more realistic to me and i would never go back. i have the forcefeedback bug and wont settle until i find the best one. hoping it will be the clubsport... But i started out with a secondhand microsoft wheel i bought off craigslist for $50 and had a LOT more fun then i ever did with a controller.

Ok so I just got done using the first wheel i've had for the ps3. I started at 9 and just got done at 2:30 so needless to say I enjoyed it.
The answer to the million dollar question what wheel did I get? Well I went looking for the g27/25 what ever I could find! Nothing! So I went to Walmart as a last ditch effort and I bought the hori official ps3 racing wheel for $60!
I know what your thinking I had buyers remorse before I left the store, so I get home and was decently surprises in the feel didn't feel cheap. (What's cool is it charges off your ps3 like a normal controller.) So I plug it in and go to settings where you set up controls and pick the wheel and was shocked when I didn't see it! then realized that I was already using it and proceeded. First race zr1 full mods no trac no nothing abs1 in seasonal events dream car; i'm all over the place it was awful totally sucked couldn't get the wheel to stay in place with the strap or suction cups and kept hitting the gas and break at the same time! So I started modifying my new race car! First I used the "lap strap" to strap the steering.wheel to a ten pound plate from my gym then placed the wheel on a stool with the pedals on my right side for only right foot work!
Second race trac 1 nothing else but abs1 same track same race;
Wow immediately better can feel the wheel now no force feed back but a tight spring that snaps back in place and vibration when sliding or off road. Which to me was a nice transition from the controller. The gas pedal and brake have a decent feel much better than I was expecting(playing in socks) could really feather the gas and pump the brakes! Once I stopped.treating it like it was some weird controller I never used before.and started driving it like a car I was in first on the 3rd lap in my second race!
I don't care how good those other ones are for sixty bucks this is perfect and I thought I was buying trash really I was just Gona use this till I found the g27 but Na there's no way its $200 better there has been 0 lap time differences so far and I believe there Gona improve I was busy driving every car I had.

So if you want a great wheel for a even better price the official ps3 wheel! Sorry I wrote so much i'm excited ( . Y . )

Well good to hear you are happy then. a wheel makes all the difference in racing games. fair warning to you though: You know all these people on here (including me) waiting to plunk down $700 on the clubsport wheel when it comes out? We all started just like you. on an in expensive wheel, and fell in love with it but eventually craved more. And more. its an addicting hobby!

Ditto.

I started with a G25 and soon after bought a MS Racing wheel so I could play Forza. Not long after that I sold those and bought a Fanatec 911 Turbo so I'd have one wheel to play all my games. That led to a CSR which I felt was a step above the Turbo. I thought I'd be content with that but I fell for the hype of the CSR E and stepped up to that. It's a big step in price compared to the CSR but it's a huge step in performance as well.

The only advice I give is buy the best you can afford from day one.

Just a heads up to Canadians looking for a wheel. The Drive Force GT is $70 off at Best Buy this week making for a sweet deal at $99!

Said by the person who has never used one ;) . Trust me, as someone who started off with a budget wheel (Driving Force Pro) and eventually stepped up to a G25 and then to a Fanatec GT3RS, there is definite improvement as you move up in the price range. Better force feedback, smoother movement, larger wheel diameter, etc. Pedals leave an even bigger space for improvement, however. Once you start getting into nearly full-aluminum, fully adjustable pedals with load cell brakes and such, you'll never look back.

I suppose for $60 you did well, though the DFGT is far and away the best budget wheel available. If you ever want to upgrade though, I'd definitely recommend springing for a G27 or midrange Fanatec setup.

I'm sure they are better but there's no way they can make the car drive any faster! Its the same control I have when using a controller. I can throw the car hold the drift and power out! But I get it I really do I mean I have a $900 watch yea it keeps time just like any other watch but its a great watch! So I can see why you would spend alit of money that does the same thing as it's 5 dollar counter part. I'm just.glad that ps3 made a decent product
