Racism in certain lobbies

I'm not a racist. I only kick those that don't understand furry fandom terminology... which is about 90% of GT players. As long as you know what the furry fandom is, you're cool with me, but the instant you insult it, kick. Sadly it seems to be Europeans who insult me because I'm a furry, but that is a rant I'll save for the appropriate thread.

Ehm.....ok. So.....your an elitist amrite?

Not all players speak Fur-isms.

you can race with lag but you have to be very careful and most people abuse it to their advantage. especially in dirty rooms but when you learn to use people's lag as a weapon against them they get pissed and its funny

I've never had a problem with nobody but US people, the majority of times I join an US lobby I get kicked instantly, sometimes they just go and throw a racist joke and kick me, or they just race dirty only with me.. it is not the same as with Europeans, Japanese and the rest of America (Canada and South America)

Never been in an Australian/NZ lobby because of the warnings in the Lobby names

I often go into rooms where the majority of players are America or Canadian, or rooms where its French and Spanish. I've never be insulted or booted out of them even once.

I meant "So racism is only limited to skin tone…?" as more of a rhetorical question relating to your position you put on text from the US constitution.

What I was trying to ask you was what your actual definition of racism was. You only really told what it wasn't.

I know racism is a form of discrimination, but what traits does it encompass? You never really explained that to me. You said earlier that the traits people are discussing here are that of "sub-races", so is the discrimination that's being discussed here actually "sub-racism", or does it have another name?

I was under the impression that racism was a very non-literal term, specifically, it didn't deal with the literal concept of race, but with difference in physical/cultural traits, similar to the concept of race. So, using your example with the two physically identical blonde men - one can receive the generalization and negative racist remarks of the California stoner surfer dude, the Frenchman could receive the generalization of smelly, unshaven, mime oui oui bread dude, and any other cultural stereotype simply because of the location they are from. They can also recieve the "dumb blonde" stereotype, which would also fall under the definition I am accustomed to. Again, it's about the differences (on a near-parallel plane to differnces you'd find between actual races) perceived in people, no matter if the differences actually exist or not.

Summary: What is the definition of racism you are accustomed to, how would you define the discrimination that is being discussed in this thread?
I'm typing on an iPhone, with a cellular connection, from the cockpit of my sailboat. I'm not inclined to peck out a dissertation in this thread, and under these circumstances.

I tend to have more issues in European lobbies, specifically French, Spanish and Dutch ones. Its nearly always a group as well, never one specific individual. Not racist (though I've heard it to someone else), but still offensive.

To those who are racist and xenophobic I just have to say one thing...travel...just travel to other countries. Visit other cultures and learn how the world really is.

That cures both things. ;)
Exactly right!

(And driving to the ethnic neighborhoods in your own area is unlikely to produce the same results).

HAHA! Don't take this too serious. And this is not racism; it's just a bunch of kids with parents who work all day, uneducated people, people who lack self esteem, full of insecurities, or just plain morons.

It is a bit annoying I must say. When I used to live in El Salvador, people kicked me out and called me Mexican (lol). Now that I'm here in the US, people have kicked me out for being 'Murican! So yeah... you can't really please anyone :D

The solution is to play with people you know, or wait until a room with decent and respectful folks who just want to play and have a good time pops up.

 I don't know what this has to do with the thread, but I had something similar happen before. I haven't been kicked because of it, but I've been questioned about my user name (the "Husky" thing), asking if I am a fur***(you must know that term I mean very well), which I am not.

-------------------------

And apart from all this, I think you all guys are confused by the term Racism. What we're dealing here is Xenophobia in all its forms. Racism is just one of the many ramifications of Xenophobia, along with intolerance, discrimination and racial and ethnicity stereotypes.

I don't know if this counts as racism but I will just tell my story.

So i joined a lobby a few months, in which it doesn't say "US only" or "UK only", the title is just "free run" and was held on Nürbürgring.

When I was just free running around the track, one the room members typed a message to me on the chat, it says:

"Hey you, guy from unknown country, what's your religion?"

I replied with:

"I'm a Muslim, and why must you be so rude?"

He then replied with:

"Shut up terrorist, what you've typed doesn't make sense, you Allahuakbar idiots LOL."

Me, being angry and full of rage. With some a*****e making fun of my religion, decided to type one more thing before I left:

"**** you c***s."

I mean like, why does everyone have to be so racist towards others in GT6? I didn't do anything to them, yet they want to make fun of me and my religion. :(

Unfortunately, there is a new generation of kids these days that enjoy the warmth and safety of being behind the protection of a computer screen or tv. I'm pretty damn sure that in reality, these people are too scared to dare and speak like that to another person's face.

I say that as long as someone else respects you, they deserve the same. If they go against you without any reason, just leave them alone in their pathetic misery. It's not worth lowering to their level and responding to them.

Things are always fine until definitions of words are questioned... Then things begin to asplode n' stuff...

...Sorry guys...

It's not technically racism, but it's still discrimination. So close enough I guess. And because of situations like that, I wish that George H.W. Bush would apologize for his son.
Remind me what ISIS stands for, and what their stated mission is? Blame them for anti-muslim sentiment before anyone charged with the task of protecting innocent citizens from the jihad.

Edit, and please don't wrongly accuse me of lumping all Muslims under the dark cloud of the radical terrorists. THEY are the ones professing to do this under Islam, not the George Bushes of the world.

I can't believe what I have read in this thread. I'm totally apalled at it. I mean I know the world isn't perfect and neither are people but some things here have had me saying wtf?

I never race in public lobbies for fear of being picked on. I'm very sensitive about some things and racism is one. Also my bad driving skills. Haha.

Yeah some of us are also victims of "race-ism". (e.g., me, when I sucked at FM3)

There are two completely different attitudes to racism here in Australia, since this was labelled as 'Terra Nullius' by the British even though there was the Aboriginal population which was not recognized as 'humans' until the 80' or 90's as they were under the 'Flora and Fauna Act'. There is a slight acceptance in racism in the older population of Australia since they grew up with the belief that the two races are not equal, however as that population fades out, sadly, that attitude is slowly fading away. Then there is the Outback vs City divide. Racism is heavily cracked down on in the city but in the Outback, it is slightly less cracked down on. I think it has to do with the larger population of the Indigenous race as you go inland and that people, such as myself, who have incredibly strong British links, can be geniune best friends with a full-blooded Aboriginal.

In Australia there will always be that divide though, which is disapointing as Australia will be known as 'that' country which was pretty much founded with the common belief that a Indigenous people were not 'humans'. This is incredibly sad but, somewhat true..
Was it not "the British" that invaded Australia, and most of the world for that matter, and took their "born to rule" attitude with them, along with their diseases and military oppression? Don't know that I'd be sprouting off about Aussie "racists" when the poms have always been the world champions at it. Granted, you lot have basically given your miserable country away to anyone that wants it, but that still wont compensate for the damage you inflicted on the world. Don't dare lecture us about racism.

The only "racism" I've seen is Canadians having QC only rooms. Very xenophobic stuff...
Quebecers like to hang out with each other and speak French. I see nothing wrong with this, nor anything wrong with Germans wanting to hang out with Germans and speak German, French with French, speaking French etc. This is neither xenophobia or racism, just personal preference. For convenience it would be polite to put that in their room title but it's not always the case.

Hey mate, I'm Aussie myself, just because I have strong British links doesn't mean I support what my ancestors did. I find quite sickening, I mean they tried wiping out an entire race which was despicable and I hope something like that never happens again, anywhere. So before you criticise someone and personally abuse them over something that they weren't involved in but their ancestors were, please make sure you know their view before you do so. And your last phrase is evidence of that, "Don't dare lecture us about racism". That was the most insulting thing in that post.
