Indeed - current "lap times" are bridge-to-gantry, as you enter the track before the bridge on Doettinger Hoehe (the 1.5 mile straight) and you leave it just after the gantry, cutting out about a mile of straight.

Should I recalculate my speeds down by a mile then? (or at least the .9)

Not necessarily. The reason the two points were chosen are that they approximate a full lap.

Think about a flying lap - you'll cream through the bridge at a billion mph and keep the speed up until the braking zone for the complex at the old start/finish. There's a significant gain in time compared to an open day laptime where you're still accelerating as you pass the bridge. In fact almost exactly the difference of the time you'll lose having to drive the straight at top speed.

It's close enough.

Yep. He set his time in the 1983 'Ring 1000km. In '84 the race was moved to the GP track.

Actually - to be pedantic - I believe the time (6:11) was set in his practice for the actual race... rather than the race itself...

The race lap time was a (mere) 6:26

Sadly he died 2 years later at Eau Rouge, Spa in the same car.

I didn't say it was the race, only the event. Bwaha!

Or if you want to save yourself a few quid ;)

Never as good as the real thing upscaled to 1080p, but a nice taster (have a look for the LeMans one and the other six or so that are on the DVD as well).

👍
