Nicest part of hell
Hi forum!

So I was just practicing on the Circuit De La Sarthe 09' in rain with my 787 B with rain tires installed and noticed that the tires were completely gone before even finishing the first lap. (Realistic grip and tire wear on, no aids.)

The tire wear-o-meter showed that my rear tires were gone and the front tires only had 25% grip remaining.

What the..? :scared:

I finished the 24hrs of Le Mans yesterday with 23hrs of the 24 being in rain and this didn't happen to me. The rain tires for me were able to go for 12 laps until the rear finally gave out. I did find that the intermediate tires were better in the rain and were faster. This was done with a 787B.

What was the surface water percentage when you completed your one lap on rain tires?

If it was 25% that might explain why, as that's still relatively dry for rain tires. You can actually get away with slicks at that percentage. Rain tires are designed to divert as much water as possible from the track to keep the car on track and prevent it from aquaplaning. This means they are not designed to heat up, unlike slicks, where the temperature in the tires is imperative to the grip.
At 25% they probably heated to quickly and got destroyed, not realistic for one lap, but the new tyre deg seems to be pretty extreme anyway. If it was 100% wet, then you could probably go more than 10 laps on them.

Agreeing with Ace, don't switch to rain until about 60% in my book's.

Well I knew it was going to get really wet so I just started with the rain tires, I didn't know that they require more wetness to keep them from turning into mist in no time at all.

*edit*

Makes sense, I just thought its a bug because they were already gone after the Mulsanne straight!

Yeah, when you watch F1, using rain tires when it is drying out results in very fast tire wear. At 25% you should use at most the intermediate tires.

At 25% I often still run slicks. ;)
25% is borderline, if it's stopped raining, it's slicks time, if it's starting raining, it's inters time.
