why are people complaining. Rally and Ice are super Realistic.

I got to drive in the snow for thee first time this year and it feels exactaly the same, i was stunned.

Dont complain, if you dont want realism go play colin Mcrae.

The rally liscence tests were the only ones I managed to get gold on (other than B or A). I love 'em! Hope there's some Rally endurances waiting for me at 25% completion.

You want a Rally experience, play Colin Mcrae or Richard Burns Rally.

You want realistic sliding on dirt and snow that have invisble walls with no co-drivers or pace notes, By all means play GT4.

Are you serious? Even the WRC-spec cars in the game slide around like they were 1970's landyachts..

If you've ever seen a cockpit view video of a WRC car... thats how it is.

I suggest everyone here who has a problem with rallying in gt4 play RIchard burns rally. :sly:

Could anyone pls post your lap time for timetrial grandcanyon using the subaru rally car 99? i just want to check how fast can i go wallridding.

I've done something like a 2:36 (Two Minutes & 36 seconds) as of today...spent a good hour or so trying different cars (Suby, Mitsu, 206, 205) and at least for me, I like the Subaru's the best, though the 205 is a close second!

All settings (ASM & TCS) set to 0 (Zero)

Some additional advice would be to:
* Practice as much as possible! Doh! :P
* Start off going as slow as possible in order to keep the car on the track...or at least keeping the front wheels on the main part of the track.
* If you're using the DFP, on sharp corners, downshift to 1st & then gas it around the turn to get the back-end to swing out and as soon as you're past the apex, lay off the throttle & upshift to 2nd ASAP to keep the car in control and to get the car back in a straight line & ready for the next turn.
* Use the ghost car, after the first lap is completed, as a marker and watch how you completed the last lap...take notes, as stated earlier, on each course and know where you can let her loose and where you need to be a bit more gentle.
* Test with other cars and find one that suits your driving style as opposed to finding one that just looks 'cool'...you may surprise yourself!

i like the rallying i mean its not a rally game so its not as good as colin mcrea (sp) but im not saying that it suckes but i just got the game and this my first gt game and the only ralling that i have done was in the super licence how do i get money and what is the cheapest slash best rally car :)

The physics of the CMR series have nothing to do with rally! CMR 1 + 2 were pretty good games and then the Codies lost it. As with every game from Codemasters they first try to improve their games and after that they only relay on the name of the game and the popularity of it, trying to reach more people.
CMR is a joke nowadays!

Well said Gablicks.

GT4 still has a long way to go before it gets close to RBR, but its a lot better than in GT3.

Full throttle around a corner is just not possiable in a rally car on dirt, you steer with the very fin throttle control.

One of the on-screen tips from Richard Burns Rally sums up the problems people are having quite well.

"If you find you are crashing too much, slow down, you are going to fast"

It sounds stupidly obvious, but GT3, the Colin McRae series and the WRC series of games lets you hammer around corners with the throttle flat to the floor.

I have a double DVD of in-car rally stages (full end to end stages) with the likes of Richard Burns, Colin McRae and Carlos Sainz driving and it is very rare to see the throttle fully open on gravel.

The reason is fairly obvious, you will exceed the grip limit of the tyres and lose control, so gentle on the throttle and slow down.

Meh, I find the rally events are a waste of time.

'Gran Turismo' (not the game, the actual term) conjures up images of cars racing around on a paved track, not sliding on dirt.

I can confirm that on WRC, you can't hammer around a corner on dirt...you must slow down...Now on Tarmac...that's a different story! :-)

EDIT: I'm referring to the U.S. version of the first WRC title...which is the only one to-date to be shipped across the pond'... :-(

The first WRC title was (in my opinion) about the best of the bunch, the rest were far more arcade orientated, with WRC 3 being a real dog.

Actually Colin McRae 3 was the poorest of that series as well (in the career mode you could only drive the WRC Focus), so maybe its something about the third releases of rally games.

the grand canyone on the normal im struggling with any suggestions out of these: rally raid toyota, maxi turbo, impreza rally, integrale?

All the Colin McRaes since the 2nd one have been crap in my opinion, the 2nd one was probably the best although the driving school in the first one was quite cool.

Anyway, I'm finding GT4s rallying a pain in the arse it just doesn't feel realistic to me (DS2 user) atleast RBR sort of feels right (especially if you look on replays) even with a PC keyboard.

Is it just me or do some of the AI cars drive as though they are on tarmac? & consequently make it near impossible to overtake for most the time.

Nice to see here someone with the same thoughts!

iv done most of the special conditions races, except the last 2 races on HARD level (the one that u win the suzuki escudo). Its kinda anoying. The car has no traction at all, and everytime i hit a wall i get 5 seconds penalty. The penalty thing is stupid, cuz the opponent never gets it, even if he is the one who hits u. I really want the escudo :( it was my favourite car in GT3

Colin McRae 2005 is not bad as far as pure arcade rally games go, but the first one was by far and away my favorite (still have it and still dig it out now and again).

I don't have a problem with GT4 rally, but that when I use the DFP, with the DS2 I find you just can control the throttle and brake well enough. As with RBR you need to be gentle with both and my big fat fingers just can't do that with the DS2.

A DF or DFP makes a huge difference to the rally stages in GT4.

I think rally on GT4 would be much better if you could have a co-driver telling you what kind of corner was coming up.

It is so frustrating as sometimes I cannot even see the next corner coming up. Next thing I know BAM!!!!! I'm in the wall with a 5 second penalty :( I do my best to take it easy going round but then the computer just walks all over me.

You mean: YOUR car has no traction. Go get an Impreza :) (well that's bla bla ofcourse, there are more good cars to compete this one)

I also went for for the Escudo in every GT, not that I use it alot, but just to have it.
The most fun I had with it was in GT 2 on Pikes Peak. Unfortunately that track was only in GT 2.

There are a lot of Rally disciplines which don't use a Co-driver. The Rally in GT is taken place on short circuits so you don't need a Co-driver at all.

Thats why i don't consider gt4 to have any authentic rally at all. The closest is Rallycross.

GT4 rally is, in my opinion, spot on. Or as spot on as you can get without actually do the traveling your self. You can't get the exact feel of G's on a stationary setup, but using the DFP get's you real close.

Traction on gravel, snow and ice is, as in real life, severely reduced. You can't use roadracing technices. Your accelerator foot should be light as a feather. Gentle acceleration, steering and braking is what it takes.

Have a look at live footage of Colin McRae. He gives you extreme ideas of how driving technique on gravel differs from roadracing. He actually finishes the turn before he even enters it!

Skip the ram, slam and bam! 👍

I've noticed the AI drives like its afraid to let the tail out. it often looks like they are struggling with understeer. :P

Like the guy with the music scale name said, there is no need for it.

Although Pikes Peak in GT2 actually could have used that, perhaps...it was long enough.

PERSONALLY I think the only way rally would be at all useful and realistic in this game is if they modeled a stage or two (or the whole thing if they had time) of a real historic or current rally, where we could use say the famous jag 120....something like a mix between the ring and that twisty italian track.

i really wish pikes peak and other hill climbing events were in gt4. Then Nitrous and big HP upgrades would have a bigger use. I've never felt the need to use nitrous... but IRL nitrouse was used in a few cars in the past for hillclimbs.

rally on GT4 it really SUCKS...its like a pinguim skiming on ice....just forget it!!! in GT3 i have a normal drive rally performence....realistic...in GT4 i cant figure it out...and also...here is the sound of the TURBOS DUMP VALVE's?!?!?!?!?!?? here is the indicator for the TURBO PRESSUR!?!?!?!?!?!?

You call that RALLY????? :dunce:

NO CONTROL!!!!!, it's like one big sliding hovercraft..........I won't touch the "special conditions" event ever again......even if it means i that i will not complete GT4!!!
