Okay, I have a confession to make:

I badly miss my X360 games collection. Who here misses console games from the previous gen?

You think with today's tech, you'd have a little bit of backwards compatibility and just download last-gen games.

Think I'll fire up the ol' 360 and take a nostalgic trip down memory lane.

I missed my PS2 so much I bought a new PS2 and in the last 2 days bought 5 PS2 games (GT, GT3, GT4, Hitman 2 & Black). PS3 I miss just as much, mostly because of GT6 and Uncharted. Oh, and Motorstorm. And Dirt 2. And NFS Undercover. And BF 1943. And Just Cause 2. And ...*Many hours later*... Crysis 2.

I still have my 360 and PS2. I also play my 360 from time to time. Havent played the PS2 in a long time. I think myself and a few others were warning you in advance that you might want to keep your 360 and the games before you get the X1. Good thing you kept your 360. :sly:

I also kept my 360 in case my X1 breaks down. Then I have a backup system to play. :D

Well, taken from someone who's X1 did break down, I have thoroughly enjoyed my 360 over the last 3 weeks! I've been playing a host of games that I still enjoy plus some new ones, F1 2013 and Mafia II. The only one I meant to get to, but didn't, is Mass Effect 3. Maybe someday I will finally beat it, I'm right at the end. I will never sell my 360, I will still play occasionally. I still also have my PS2 and 60 plus games as well, I have been tempted to hook it back up lately.

Backwards Compatibility for a console just a generation ago!? Nonsense! Now please buy our next lazy HD remaster at full price. :D

Sigh, this industry.

Ah.. the PS2 days....those wonderful carefree days of Tekken, Gran Turismo and Road Rash! Among my best console gaming years. :)

Mayeennn, I ain't never getting rid of my X360; I've always sold my previous consoles to get a new-gen one, but the X360 I'm sticking with. The game collection is just unreal. And even my today's standards, most games look impressive and play really well.

What? You're X1 broke down on you? What happened if ya don't mind me asking?

Mafia II and the ME trilogy are some of the BEST games I've experienced on the X360. Right along with the Bioshock games, RDR and GOW!

It's such wonderful nostalgia going back to a previous console, isn't it? Just last night I was fantasizing about hooking up my 360 to go a few rounds in FN Champion. Too tired and conked out instead!

Speaking of nostalgia, GT3/4 looks more pixelated than I remember. Maybe it's my bigger TV?

I don't remember GT3/4 being that pixelated, not for that era anyway. I was playing mine on an HD-ready Philips CRT screen that could do 480p and 1080i at 50 Hz. Game looked pretty impressive for that era... remember how my "car" friends used to come over and leave half-stunned, eyes wide.

On a 1080P screen you can easily see the pixels on screen on any car and even the HUD. Menus look great though. Got Hitman 2 the other day so can't wait to get back into it :D!

Ah, you probably had a fairly big screen and sit close to it then.

I haven't even finished Hitman Absolution! Huge backlog sitting on the X360...

I completed Absolution once, Blood Money 3 times, Contracts once and 2 Never. I can never get past St Petersburg Revisited :banghead: So many failed fiberwire attempts just to get a pistol...

I agree 100%. One of THE all time best gaming collections in history IMO. The mass majority of my top favorite gaming moments have been on the 360. :D

Just wish the 360 would have been a bit more reliable.

Also @DDastardly00 make sure you turn OFF the "Auto on" feature on your X1. Set it to "power save" to save wear and tear. Pretty sure you already know that but it would have prevented your X1 from burning up. My sister just had to send in her X1 because of the exact same thing and she had it set to "auto on". I try to tell everyone to turn the auto on...off.

Not exactly, no. To play 360 games as they were on the 360 the X1 would need an entire set of 360 hardware; processors, RAM, etc. The alternative is software emulation but as things progress, emulation gets harder and harder because the consoles are getting more complex and the leap from one generation to the next is smaller. The reason the PS2 could play PS1 games was because it was much more powerful, while the Xbox One vs. 360 by comparison is a tiny gap in performance. The architecture is different, they support different instruction sets, they generally just work very differently - the PS3 and 360 both ran three CPU cores at about 3GHz, the new generation are eight cores at 1.6GHz - it would take a lot more processing power than the Xbox One has to emulate 360 games. Even playable emulation on PCs stops right around or maybe even before the original Xbox, the PS3 and 360 are just too complex for PC hardware as it is now. There's actually more chance of seeing a PS4 or One emulator for PC than PS3, I'd say, because their hardware is so much closer to what PCs use than what the PS3 has. There are PS3 and 360 emulators around but they're far from finished and not very playable.

So, you know, it's easy for people to say 'this should have backwards compatibility' or 'of course there's no backwards compatibility, they want us to buy our old games again', but you honestly wouldn't want to either pay what it would cost to have hardware backwards compatibility or play emulated games that run really, really badly. It's just not as simple as it used to be.

And I too miss my 360, I still have it and it's actually all still plugged in, but it RROD'd for the second time a few months ago and I don't want to fix it again. I'll pick up a used late model one when they're £30 so I can play Forza 4 and Horizon but otherwise I don't miss it enough to spend money on fixing a 2006 launch Core model with a 20GB hard drive...

Interesting. It doesn't bother me one bit as I still have the 360. Just wondering how interesting it might have been to just download games from last gen. Though I did hear someone mention getting EA Access or Gold membership to download free X360 games every month.

As for the Red Rings, as soon as your get your 'late model', just make sure the belly doesn't get hot and you're all set. I had fine elevated by half an inch on all four supports, along with a fan blowing in cool air from the left. 2010 Jasper model, that works fine to this day.

As for the HDD space, you can get a larger one, can't you?

Yes if you have a gold membership you get 2 free games a month on the 360 AND on the X1. It is called "Games with gold". So basically 4 free games a month. Around Christmas I think I remember them giving away 8 free games. It was insane. A lot of good deals with gold. Plus you can easily get gold for only $30-$35 a year if you watch for the deals.

In fact F1 2013 is FREE right now on the 360. ONLY if you have gold. ;) I need to pick that up for sure!!

Thats most likely due to the change in TV's since then. You are blowing up a picture, any time you do that, the pixels become more pronounced. You can try it for yourself actually, if you copy a small picture to photoshop and try to stretch it.

Green Screen of Death problems in a nutshell, see the Xbox One Console thread for the complete story https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/threads/the-xbox-one-thread.250151/page-149

I've really never fully left the Xbox 360, since I received my X1 last September, I've played it a lot more than my 360, but I still make time to play it. The free Gold games are much better than what's offered on the X1 (with a couple exceptions). That being said, I have been fantasizing about hooking up my PS2 for some time now, I really want to play GT3, R Racing Evolution and Auto Modellista again.

Hopefully this time they will actually repair my console, if it comes back a 2nd time then I am going to demand a new console. I've already lost out on a month's worth of gaming time on the X1, my patience has limits.

But yeah, that was the first thing I had planned to was turn those options off once I made past the startup screen., I just didn't get that far unfortunately.

I've tried 4-5 times to get that, it never completes to my 360

Let me know if you have better luck 👍
My sister borrowed my 360 because her X1 was sent in for repairs. (she had it set to auto on and it broke)

With that said, she tried to download F1 2013 on the 360 and said it wasn't working. So I guess we wont be getting F1 2013 for free, unless we find a work around to get it fixed. :guilty:

I mentioned in the X1 thread, just go buy another X1 from a local store to hold you over for now. Then when your "repaired" X1 returns, return your new X1 back to the store for a full 100% refund. Its basically renting the X1 for free. Every store like Walmart, Target, Meijers has a 15-30 day no questions asked full 100% refund policy. :D

Thanks for the quick reply 👍 It's a pity because I'd like a go at it. I don't buy F1 games because the pace is too full on 10/10ths for me, but I like a dabble :D

I normally never play F1 games but I bought F1 2011 and played through the co-op campaign with a friend from Britain and we had an absolute blast!! The F1 games allow you to adjust the game as difficult or as easy as you want. We were able to find a happy medium and played through the entire co-op campaign online. So much fun. If I get a chance I will check the xbox.com support forums to see if I can find a work around to get F1 2013 to dl.

Cool, thanks 👍 I don't mean so much the AI being difficult but the fact that an F1 car only really works when driven flat out

Is F1 2015 worth getting on current gen? Oh wait... the cars sound different now. Not sure if I can live with that..

I have no idea. The only and the last F1 game I played was F1 2011. I truly enjoyed it, just never ended up getting another F1 game. I have a hard enough time keeping up with all the racing games I am already backlogged on.

Tell me bout' it... SO many games I have yet to finish on my 360.

As for the X1, for now, Forza and PCARS is all I need. Wait.. PCARS I can live without.. Forza, no sirree! :D

My 360 expired today, full-on RROD :(

Don't know if I'll get it repaired or get another or just let it go. The only game I'd miss is Forza 4. Masses of content and features, and the Porsche expansion. Epic in so, so many ways

I still have my X1 and PC to be going on with though, so plenty of time for thought

That is a real stinker my friend! I remember when my Elite died.. I got it fixed.. and it RR'ed in less than a week! Got a Jasper after that, and it's been running fine since.

The thing with the X360 units is that you need to keep them cool from underneath. The belly of the beast is where the problems stem from!

Great cooling setup on the X1 by the way - just to be safe though elevate it a little and always have the room temp at 25 deg C or lower.
