1. RGB settings
Some people are complaining that night races are too dark. It won't help if you turn on the brightness for your TV or the game. You need to set RGB to "Limited" instead or "Full" in PS3's display settings. I couldn't see **** on my 50" Sharp Aqua LCD TV until I set the RGB to Limited, and all my night races looks exact like the one in trailers. Which is vivid and easy to navigate and shadows looks much nicer.
2. Re-assign your controller
By default the Dual shock 3 or any racing wheel does not allow you to look around while in the cockpit view, just go to settings and assign your right sticks to look left/right. It will also enable the directional buttons on any racing wheel. If you have a Playstation Eye camera, while playing in Arcade mode, just turn your head a little bit and you can view around the car's interior. I've tried it and to be honest, it's nothing special and some times ruin your race.
3. 720p is the the most balanced
While the game does support 1080p, you will see some screen tearing, stuttering and crappy shadow. Very noticeable with high speed car like FGT and Red Bull X2010, it's better to use 720p anyway. Don't bother with 1080i.
4. Internet connection affects your standard game play
If you just want to do offline stuff like: license test, challenges, A-spec and B-spec racing, just play in offline mode. Everything loads faster and no command delay. (ie: pressing the triangle button in the garage delay)
5. If you are using a wheel to play the game (best example will be the G27)
Some buttons or functions are lacking on the wheels (high beams, windshield wipers, honks, etc) . Once your connect your wheel, start the game. Just use your Dual Shock 3 and press and hold the PS home button and re-assigned it to controller number 1 and then 2 and back to 1 again (Also: set never turn off the controller as well). After that you will notice almost all of the buttons on your wheel or G27's shift knob have a function now. It's still not perfectly assigned but better than nothing.
6. If you don't like all the loadings and waiting.
Upgrade your PS3's Hard drive to an SSD (Solid state drive) Hard drive. They might be expensive but definitely worth it because it cuts your loading time in half, less heat, less noise and last much longer. I'd recommend the 60GB SSD, it's the best price/capacity ratio. Look for a video comparison on YouTube showing you the speed different between a normal PS3 HDD and SSD HDD. If you are a true hardcore GT fan, I am sure you have already upgraded...
7. Tuning your car is extremely important.
Most people think expensive cars came with perfect tune settings but that's wrong. In fact, all cars came with default settings. Even if you buy all the available upgrade and race mod, your car is still not tuned. Search around and find some popular tune settings for your favorite car. The difference is HUGE. I would never be able to win FGT Championship and NASCAR A-spec and B-spec races without finding some settings online.
8. Some extreme B-spec races can be difficult
Even with over-powered cars, not all B-spec races can be AFK. For the FGT championship and NASCAR events, you need to be there and give commands constantly in order to win. Remember to search for tune settings online first and keep telling your bob to pace up and over-take.
9. Need that one car but can never find it in Used car dealer? No friends to trade or just don't trust others?
Use the birthday trick.
1. create new account with random email that you made up
2. enter birthday as current date and the year will be the year of the car that you want.
3. add your primary account as friend. log out
4. log in primary account, confirm friend, log out
5. enter game in your newly created account, use the birthday ticket to get car, gift it to your primary account.
6. delete secondary account and create a new one. repeat
the whole process takes about 5-10 minutes, keep creating account until you find the car you want and gift. You can only gift a car in 24 hours so make sure you find what you want before gifting or you'll need to wait another day. It took me 7 tries to get the 2J race car to win the historic race in B-spec. I also got a few other cool cars doing this.
10. Red bull X2010 ruins the game
After getting and driving this car, everything else feels like a boat or tank. The game is instantly boring. Only use to for B-spec grinding, don't ever drive this or GT5 is over for you. Trust me...
I still have lots information to share but I just can't think of anything else at the moment... Feel free to add more. Thanks guys and have fun racing!
