1. RGB settings

Some people are complaining that night races are too dark. It won't help if you turn on the brightness for your TV or the game. You need to set RGB to "Limited" instead or "Full" in PS3's display settings. I couldn't see **** on my 50" Sharp Aqua LCD TV until I set the RGB to Limited, and all my night races looks exact like the one in trailers. Which is vivid and easy to navigate and shadows looks much nicer.

2. Re-assign your controller

By default the Dual shock 3 or any racing wheel does not allow you to look around while in the cockpit view, just go to settings and assign your right sticks to look left/right. It will also enable the directional buttons on any racing wheel. If you have a Playstation Eye camera, while playing in Arcade mode, just turn your head a little bit and you can view around the car's interior. I've tried it and to be honest, it's nothing special and some times ruin your race.

3. 720p is the the most balanced

While the game does support 1080p, you will see some screen tearing, stuttering and crappy shadow. Very noticeable with high speed car like FGT and Red Bull X2010, it's better to use 720p anyway. Don't bother with 1080i.

4. Internet connection affects your standard game play

If you just want to do offline stuff like: license test, challenges, A-spec and B-spec racing, just play in offline mode. Everything loads faster and no command delay. (ie: pressing the triangle button in the garage delay)

5. If you are using a wheel to play the game (best example will be the G27)

Some buttons or functions are lacking on the wheels (high beams, windshield wipers, honks, etc) . Once your connect your wheel, start the game. Just use your Dual Shock 3 and press and hold the PS home button and re-assigned it to controller number 1 and then 2 and back to 1 again (Also: set never turn off the controller as well). After that you will notice almost all of the buttons on your wheel or G27's shift knob have a function now. It's still not perfectly assigned but better than nothing.

6. If you don't like all the loadings and waiting.

Upgrade your PS3's Hard drive to an SSD (Solid state drive) Hard drive. They might be expensive but definitely worth it because it cuts your loading time in half, less heat, less noise and last much longer. I'd recommend the 60GB SSD, it's the best price/capacity ratio. Look for a video comparison on YouTube showing you the speed different between a normal PS3 HDD and SSD HDD. If you are a true hardcore GT fan, I am sure you have already upgraded...

7. Tuning your car is extremely important.

Most people think expensive cars came with perfect tune settings but that's wrong. In fact, all cars came with default settings. Even if you buy all the available upgrade and race mod, your car is still not tuned. Search around and find some popular tune settings for your favorite car. The difference is HUGE. I would never be able to win FGT Championship and NASCAR A-spec and B-spec races without finding some settings online.

8. Some extreme B-spec races can be difficult

Even with over-powered cars, not all B-spec races can be AFK. For the FGT championship and NASCAR events, you need to be there and give commands constantly in order to win. Remember to search for tune settings online first and keep telling your bob to pace up and over-take.

9. Need that one car but can never find it in Used car dealer? No friends to trade or just don't trust others?

Use the birthday trick.
1. create new account with random email that you made up
2. enter birthday as current date and the year will be the year of the car that you want.
3. add your primary account as friend. log out
4. log in primary account, confirm friend, log out
5. enter game in your newly created account, use the birthday ticket to get car, gift it to your primary account.
6. delete secondary account and create a new one. repeat

the whole process takes about 5-10 minutes, keep creating account until you find the car you want and gift. You can only gift a car in 24 hours so make sure you find what you want before gifting or you'll need to wait another day. It took me 7 tries to get the 2J race car to win the historic race in B-spec. I also got a few other cool cars doing this.

10. Red bull X2010 ruins the game

After getting and driving this car, everything else feels like a boat or tank. The game is instantly boring. Only use to for B-spec grinding, don't ever drive this or GT5 is over for you. Trust me...

I still have lots information to share but I just can't think of anything else at the moment... Feel free to add more. Thanks guys and have fun racing!

cool nice info.
ive got one, check prize car list before you buy expensive car incase you win it later on

This is very useful, thanks! However, with the birthday trick is there any way to shut off the game after you see what car you got, but before it saves that car in your account? that way you just have to quit and restart the game, and not remake an account over and over?

710 11345 Spells Shell oil when typed on a calculator and turned upside down.

1080i works better for me than 720p at least for my set, so I will say it will depend on what tv you got.

There IS an in game EV adjustment which most people overlooked for brightness adjustments.

Nope. It isn't possible because before it shows you what car you get after using the ticket, it saves the game. This means the car is already in your garage and the game has already saved.

Thinking about you could do ( i think), with the save glitch

Create the account, back it up, open the game and if you get a car you dont want quit the game and reload your save data and keep doing it over and over until you get what you want. I will say that this is cheating but you already cheating by doing the bday glitch

**I'm going to mess around with my settings and see if there is any truth to this. The screen tearing effect is annoying as all hell.

It's easy. If you don't get the birthday car you want, quit the game and delete the saved data for it (delete the saved game data FOR YOUR DUMMY ACCOUNT, not for your regular account!).

So, log in as your dummy - HAPPY BIRTHDAY! - get your new car... Crap! It sucks! Quit game, delete saved data, start game again, HAPPY BIRTHDAY! - CRAP! Again, this car sucks. Repeat as necessary.

good info here, this should be stickied and added to. For instance I assign both the controller and DFGT as controller one... so I can use both and switch between A and B spec and navigate menus...

I also unplug my DFGT before turning on and off my PS3 to avoid the very load wheel calibration that does 2 full rotations before returning to center...

G25 (All Logitech?) Users Need to Calibrate there Pedals.

The default setting for the g25 pedal set, does not use the full travel of the pedals. This leaves you with a very sensitive brake pedal. You can test this by looking at the brake indicator bar, it tops out with only a small amount of travel.

This can be remedied by fully pressing all pedals before you start a race, I usually do this as soon as GT5 has fully booted (at the first menu).

I have heard a lot of people complaining about this problem, I was especially surprised to hear "Inside Sim Racing" complain about how sensitive the pedals where when they tested the Logitech family of wheels, they obviously don't know about pedal calibration.

Please spread the word, as this makes the whole GT5 / G25 experience so much smoother.

Ha ha that is very funny. Nice thread. It sums up a lot of things that are shattered about in other threads.

I wish i could think this kind of idea, But hey!, Thanks for this tips and im really looking forward to use your suggestion at my upmost concern on this game. Kudos for you +1

I don't think 1080p actually has more tearing but of course higher resolution shows up more details which would include tearing. I still prefer 1080p over 720p since it helps to see more details farther down the track.

There IS an in game EV adjustment which most people overlooked for brightness adjustments.

It changes burn/exposure of the game's lighting engine much like in a camera, not the same as a global gamma/brightness control - which is also missing from GT5...

Think of it as more of a contrast control

Only applies to HDMI and LCD displays. Won't do anything for analogs and components

I have plan to upgrade on HD TV next summer. I may ask a question, why the TV advertisment on suppliers shop seems to show the most potential graphics of their product?

Good points except the 2 last, you could have skip those easely.

Especially 10 since it's your opinion. I'm racing in F1 2010, lots of superGT races etc.. but I love to race 200 HP cars too, I got no problem with that, even after driving the X2010.

Oh and 1080 is working fine for me.

3. 720p is the the most balanced
Not always if you have a 1920x1980 screen. While the cars look nicer in 720p due to the increased AA, the backgrounds are noticeable more pixellated. I tried this on my TV and 1080p definitely looks more balanced. In general, it's best to select the native resolution of your screen.

So true. Every car I drove after the X2010 understeered everytime :P

In the options, under file management, there is the option to preinstall game data. The game did a big install originally, does it do anything to use this option?

I tried in vein lastnight to reduce my image output to 720p.. could not figure it out.

PS - out of 20+ PS3 titles, this would be the only one that requires me to reduce my TV's capabilities to have the images appear normal. Fail. These idiots should have released this as a beta version.

Thanks for these two guys. I'll try them out tomorrow

This clearly depends on your TV/monitor. There is no "best" setting for everyone.

The full option is for people who are using a PC monitor like myself. PC monitors are capable of displaying a larger range of colours than normal LCD TVs that's why your seeing things as being too dark on your standard TV.

Limited for TVs. Full for PC monitors. That makes more sense than just saying Full is plain wrong.

Again not true. It depends on the TV/monitor you are using.

I use a 24" PC monitor which has a native resolution of 1920x1200. It is capable of displaying 1080p signal on a 1:1 basis with the addition of small black bars at the top and bottom of the screen. While it can display 720p at the same aspect as 1080p it needs to be upscaled to do so resulting in a lower quality image.

Always select your displays native resolution rather than upscaling a lower resolution.

Yes there is some tearing with the game running at 1080p but the increase in image quality due to the 50% increase in pixels is more than worth putting up with the odd tear for.

I'd say 'that depends'. People like myself would prefer framerate over resolution any day. Especially when using the cockpit view the tearing and low framerates get pretty nasty.

Yes it depends on your chosen display. Personally I have experienced some screen tearing with 1080p and on some occasions the FPS drop a little bit when in traffic or if there is smoke on the track but never to the point of it being detrimental to your driving or the overall experience.

If you take the time to read this article you will see that the actual frame rate difference between 720p and 1080p is marginal at best. Infact they even say that 1080p shows higher frames than 720p at times.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-gran-turismo-5-tech-analysis

But if you feel the game runs "smoother" at 720p that is up to you entirely.
