So a "rat rod" can only be a piece of sh:censored:? I thought they were just 'extreme' hot rods, like this one:

A lot of the rat rods posted in here are very similar to a lot of the ones I posted, only they're rusted out. I just don't get it.

The point of a rat rod is to look that way. Rusted out, unfinished, etc.

I like to think of a rat rod looking like it just came out of the pits of hell, crazy disfigured cartoon people included :D

Speaking of which, look at this

I couldn't even describe how awesome this car looks, so I'll just sit back and take it all in.

EDIT: Oh no! It seems to be a fake rat rod. Fake painted on rust, damn you Hot Rod magazine.

Meh, painted on is actually impressive. Kinda hard to replicate the random beauty that is nature. :p:tup:

Meh, I'll go a step further and say that its actually not a real rat rod. :p

Danachronism: 👍

Keep those Volksrod coming people!!!!! :D

LOL! Love Ed Roth, and that picture...Rat Fink stealing Minnie from Mickey...priceless.

Does anyone else remember the CAR-toons magazine that was out in the late 70's early 80's? It was a comic book that was all about cars. It had a Rat Fink style to it. Every issue had a learn to draw part that really shaped my doodling as a child.

edit: I found the website

Yup. I used to have a dozen or so issues when I was, ohhh, 10 or so.

Random but since this thread was sort of left on the topic of rat fink type things I have something to show. My dad used to draw this eyeball as a kid, so I decided to make my own spoof on it.

http://g.imageshack.us/img175/eyeballresizeuv5.jpg/1/

The eyeball is usually just waving with the other arm, but I made it hold the word Calculus because I'm using it as a drawing for the front of my binder. Other details is that it has an 8-ball shifter nob, and the shifter just goes into a box on the side which somehow works, lol.

It takes up a good part of a page so it's a decent size drawing in real life (Which i've improved on a bit since the picture). I re-sized the picture for this thread, but the real picture is decently big as well so I might end up finishing it in photoshop.

That’s what I’m freaking talking about, A trend, a fad every jones jumps into and pays top dollar to some to “paint” rust. Oh, come on.

Nothing like a black with flames chopped 32 Coupe with a 392 Blown hemi on gray, as-cast Hallibrands and huge slicks out back, and a dark wine roll & pleat vinyl interior with a 4 speed and bell Steering wheel, dropped axle, Hallibrand quick-change, and side pipes, no hood and louvers everywhere. That’s a hot rod. No freaking other term could fill that out better.

True it wasn't made for this but it looks close enough.....

Yes it was one of six flown back from Europe and sold to people in the U.S. I guess it was also used on the Bonneville salt flats.

I gotta keep this thread alive! I went to the Hunret Car Pile up over the weekend, and I gotta say, for being in such a small town, there were cars from all over.

First off was my favorite car, it has a turbocharged I-6

There was some sort of fire shooting competition which seemed to be a huge hit with the locals

This pink car was part of the fire shooting competition. The side of the car was covered with carbon from the exhausts coming out of the hood

Some things I learned form the event.
1. there are a lot of HOT rat girls
2. the rat rod culture is awesome

I have all of the originals if anyone wants any PM me. I may post up some more later

Are you from in or around Minnesota? Some of those pictures are at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds at the Back to the 50's show, not to mention some of those cars are in my post on the first page (especially the first one with the Cat grille).
