Those pipes are nothing short of awesome. :D

You know, I was behind the rat movement when it first resurfaced a few years ago, because I am not crazy about the checkbook warriors that dominate the traditional rod scene.

But now the rat scene is dominated by checkbook warriors too. And the one thing even stupider than spending $50,000 on a car you never drive is spending $50,000 on a car you can't drive while trying to make it look like you spent $500 on the whole project.

I agree, but of course the guys in the local rat rod club I know definitely have not spent 50 grand on their vehicles, not to mention they do drive them quite a bit.

If you painted the rust on, it's not a rat, no matter what.

Haha the guys I know did it the right way, grinded all the paint off and let nature do it's thing.

That's still "artificial" rusting. The idea of seeing rust on the rod is that the body naturally rusted away over time because you didn't really care about how the car looked... not because you actively encouraged its growth.

True it is helping the rust form faster, but it's more natural than painting rust on. And of course some people would probably prefer a solid car, especially if driven around alot.

I think it's just as awful as "faux" antiques. I repeat: if you distress it on purpose, you're cheating.

You think it's cheating, but I just think it's easier. Of course we can both agree that painting on rust is lame!

I think it's unsafe and lowers structural integrity. Then again, those things are so flimsy you don't want to drife it fast, anyway...
