Here's a recording of a conversation I recently had with one of my friends. Click the link in the conversation and take the test (you should catch it on the first time through if you're any good) Then read the conversation as that's the amusing part.
The conversation went downhill from there, he went off on a tangent and I lost him completely.
Friend: Ebaums reads your mind.
Friend: it's scary
Me: there is nothing on the internet that can read your mind
Friend: wanna bet?
Friend: ESP
Friend: I'm scared right now
Friend: reads your mind of numbers
Me: My god, are you really that stupid?
Me: I can do that one myself
Friend: what?
Me: actually, I will show you algebraically how to do that
Friend: ok.
Me: ok
Friend: but i don't get it, i don't say anything.
Friend: and it gets it right every time
Me: X + 8 + 25 - 13 + 11 - 9 - X = 22
Me: +X and -X cancel out
Me: leaving 8+25-13+11-9=22
Friend: but how does it know the number?
Me: it's got a calculator that adds up the four other numbers and gives you the value
Friend: so how does it know im THINKING 1,000,000?
Me: it doesn't
Me: the number you're thinking of doesn't matter, it always comes out to the number that it says
Me: try this one
Me: think of a number and don't tell it to me
Friend: ok
Friend: go
Friend: got it
Me: now, add 2, subtract 4, add 28, subtract 40 and then subtract the original number.
Me: your answer is -6
Friend: -8.
Me: you did it wrong then
Me: try this one then
Me: think of a number, add 2, subtract 2,
Me: add 2, subtract 2, add 2, subtract 2, add 2, subtract 2, add 2, subtract 2, add 2, subtract 2, add 2, subtract 2, add 2, subtract 2, add 2, subtract 2, and then you're left with the original number
Me: right?
Friend: duh.
Friend: that's easy
Me: so, 0+2-2=0?
Me: (go along with me for a minute)
Friend: yeah.
Friend: so
Friend: 4821
Friend: equals the same thing
Me: so say the 2 wasn't a 2 (both of them). say they're fours for a minute
Me: does it still equal zero?
Friend: yes.
Me: so no matter what the number is in place of the twos it will always equal 0?
Friend: if the addition and subraction are the same, there going to end up the way it started
Friend: but ebaums isn't that simple.
