Hi,

Is there anyone else who posts on here involved in the Karting world? If so what's your opinion on the CIK's proposal for rear plastic bumpers.

I think that firing (hitting people off the track) jobs are going to double if these are brought into force next year in the CIK championships.

I race a UK only class called Junior TKM Intermediate which is for 11-16 year olds who weigh more than 62kg. The class is restricted to the TKM BT82 engine only (which I believe was used to win the USA Endurance championship a couple of years ago if I'm not mistaken but I only read about it) and Maxxis Green label tyres but we're allowed to run CIK spec chassis and bumpers.

One of the main problems I can see with the rear plastic bumper is how to you start a non-TAG kart without a clutch?

I'm just about to visit your website as soon as I have finished typing this message.

Website not work for me neither.

I want to get involved in racing but i need a job to start getting the funds together:D

Karting is one of these sports that can be run on a cheap budget (around £6,000 for 10 races a season) for local club racing or on a expensive budget at National championship (about £20,000 + for just a couple of races) level. Of course all the costs I've listed is if you include the Kart itself, entry fees, Licence fees (it may be different in other countries but you have to pay to get a racing licence in the UK), petrol for the kart, petrol for your transporter/van/car with trailor etc, any spare parts you may need for the kart, helmet, race suit, boots, gloves, neck brace (if mandatory), kart tyres and the neccesary tools needed for pit work on the kart.

also here's my website, www.freewebs.com/alakart or there is the main karting page for the UK, www.karting.co.uk or there is the main karting page for the world, www.kartlink.com

:) First off, there is already a thread just for karting, but I would like to welcome all kartes to GT Planet.I am the head race diretore at our track and we run under the IKF & ASN rules. The kind of contact you are talking about is not allowed here and will get you the black flag faster than you would believe. Our track is in Regina, Sask, and we run: ROK, Rotax, Rotax Jr, Yamaha Sr,Yamaha Jr and Honda Jr. Check out the other thread on karting. 👍 :)

Check out our web site.It seems to be kind of hard to find but try this,
www.southsaskkartclub.tripod.com
then it will say that they cannot find this site ( on lycos.com canada)
got to the search form and put in sask karting and it will pop up.
Let me know if this works.

You still run Yamaha!!!!!!! It died out over here when Rotax came onto the scene.

Firing isn't allowed here either it's just that they seem to employ officals who never see incidents (even if it does happen right in front of them).

Yep, same here. :grumpy: I really want to race, but i doubt i'd be good enough to compete properly. But is all about having fun isnt it (if you call being lapped 30 times fun)?

I race karts in South Africa (Anyone who races Rotax Max should know how good the drivers are down here), been doin it for 6 years but the budget needed to compete at the top is starting to kill me!

I race in the Rotax Max Challenge class with a PCR chassis.

I have no problem with plastic bumpers, they are used in the RM1 class and work fine. It hasn't promoted more bumping either, it is also a whole lot safer.

X-Othermic,

Where about in Scotland are you? The 4 major scottish kart tracks are in Larkhall (Lanarkshire), Crail (Fife), Golspie (Sutherland) and Banff (Aberdeenshire). How about going to your nearest one and find out about it or visit www.scottishkarting.co.uk

Kart.no.38,

Did you go to PF International (UK) this year for the Rotax Challlenge round? If so what did you think of the circuit and would you come again? Just wondering because some drivers here think it's a dull track and I was wondering whether the foreigners think the same.

My team mate (Wesleigh Orr, Current world champ) went to race there.

Funnily enough the track is VERY similar to the one I race at, though the people who have driven both tracks say that our one is slightly more technical compared to PF Int.

Here is my personal site (havent updated it for a while though, but there are some pics for ya to look at), tell me what ya think: Team - PSP

The price on the Yamaha is just to good to let go.It's a great starter motor wich helps with the price. You can pick up a good used setup for around 2,000.00 cdn.Alot of drivers around here are in thier late 30's and race just for the love of the sport. This seems to be the reason why the Yamaha still rules here.Last year some one brought a old Comet engine and ran it direct drive. That was a blast to see.

edit; that price includes the kart.

Kart.no.38,

I found your website very good, The race reports are just the right length before they become "I love myself too much" rants.

Kart Racer,

Yamaha was (or even "is" from your point of view) a great class. The class use to have tyres that would last for up to 3 years before they began to loose grip and the wets were just the same (but they usually went hard before they lost grip). The engine performance is also simular to what the TKM BT82 produces.

Thanks Inter 61, Im not really ever that good at writing reports. But it is something I have to do :-P
