Now I dont drift alot anymore but when I want to set up a car for drifting, I always tend to make them as close to real life as possible. Not thinking of whats good or what has the most stability, but just some things like making a car drift with higher camber in the rear than in front. Or after watching a video I want a car to enter and exit drifts more like the car I saw in the particular video.

So I would like to start a thread where you can post your settings and a few pictures of your car that you think is a great addition, inspired by real life cars.

It's your choice to pick a "direction" do you want:
-The looks to be like the car that inspired you?
-Or the handling?
-Or how the replays look like?
-Or do you want to make them more like the GT4 D1GP cars wich IMO offer some unique drifting experiences.

I know the drift forum is going a little bit dead, and I havent been around here much either but if you got a car wich fits my description, post the settings and bring in some pictures of it in action (no rules for pictures, photoshop allowed).

I'm curious:)

Edit: Oh videos are welcome too:tup:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm going to make a board too I'm thinking now. If you want your set up to be shown in this first post, make a description of the car/what your inspiration was and I'll link it in my first post for the comfort.

Drift Settings Currently Made Here:

-GT4Fan: Nissan S13, stiff and a little pushing set up when you hit the throttle. Use throttle to accel in your drifts. My D1GP car:tup:

Well, I got a new ps2..im too lazy to fix my old one but I want tried to make the Ryosuke's Fc((the live action)) settings but its in the GTP archives already

Just post the settings up and maybe add some pictures to it:) In photoshop/video subforum it happens too, you can post pictures in multiple threads. I think it's no problem if you post those settings here too is it swift?

I want to make a Mustang drift like Ken Gushi's and Vaughn Gittin Jr.s. I also would like to try the same settings as these cars to see how they drift (probably wouldn't work so well, as you can't clutch kick on GT4).

the only real way is really try not to use any racing stuff, like suspension, i always use semi because they simulate the real type of suspension you'd buy, not $10,000 worth of suspension.
my fav car is the 93 S14, only mild tuned,
Spring Rate F:3.2 R:2.8 (For some reason silvia/180sx have really soft suspension)
Camber: F:-3.5 R:-1.5
Damper:F:5R:5
lowered car maxium allowed.
Stage 2 turbo (HKS 2530gt)
Sports Intercooler (HKS type S)
Twin-plate clutch (Ogura Racing Clutch)
Semi flywheel (Ogura Racing Clutch)
2-way LSD (Kazz 2 way mechanical)
Racing Exhaust (DRFT exhaust)
Racing chip (Apex-i Power FC)
Tyres: N2
oil change
total:300hp
To me this really simulates what the cars would have in japan, as i read alot of import mags, street drift cars roughly have around 200hp to 400hp depending of car. In order to drift like pros, you must have a steering wheel.
i dont though, even so controller is my fav, i'll if i can get some drift piks.

HKS_T51KAI- I don't mean to offend you in any way, but you are wrong. I know how you are thinking, because I used to think like that aswell. But here are my thoughts on this:
-The spring rate on most semi-racing suspension kits is too low, because for about US$1000 you can get 9kgf/mm spring rate suspension. Go to D1GP.com and look at the competitor roster- you can see some of the settings of the D1 drivers(horsepower figures and spring rates).
-I read an article a while ago about a guy who runs toe in his drift car. I'm guessing most of them do this.
-I think N3 tires would be better than N2 for being like the professionals. Aren't they running "performance" tires? N3 seems to be more like that than N2, but that's just me.

I'm in with luftrofl. But, with settings that look like the realistic settings doesn't mean you actually drift like them.. ;)

Well it's still cool, try the settings out and you'll see how difficult it is, it seems like you are a real low budget drifter and it's a cool experience.
At least thanks for posting some settings and get this thread running.

I'm now working on an old 80's Silvia with around 400BHP and N3's after reading some stuff on www.d1gp.com.
I think almost all drifters would use things like racing suspension and Full Custom LSD, but they dont have the money, I DO have the money so thats the way I'm gonna think right now;)

I'm gonna try to make this a drift car that pushes a bit to the inside when hitting the throttle, I hope at least, for line taking. The rest will come automatically with drifting that wont be a problem.

Keeping you updated:tup:

Thats what I mean, if a drifter could afford 400BHP and would like to, he would do it, and since I'm not pretending things and CAN afford 400BHP (a typical drifter couldn't afford a LMP car either but ah well;)) so I'm using it.

Just said that it was fun to see it from another perspective:)

BTW I'm doing good with the silvia, I've stiffened it up pretty good and I have a stiff suspension and low ride height. 0 rear chamber so I could all the rubber on the ground to control my car and it actually works:tup:

I'll make my own realistic car, that could be a good competitor in the D1GP. So, like 300BHP minimal.. Working on my Lancer Evolution 3 GSR. Can't remember the price of the car but it's value is now 2,596 Creds. Spended money on tuning, like 150k? LoL

So far it's far from perfect, but I have to sleep now so here is where I left off if anyone is curious.

dude, its spelled CAMBER.. no h in that. just had to get that out there.

As soon as i read this thread, i would of picked the AE86 as an immediate pick, since the car is really the pinacle of the drifting scene.

An underpowered AE86, would be an idea to think about, seeing what kind of links, corners you can concour with out losing to much RPM. etc.
We all know what they can achieve in real life. So compare it to what the car can do on GT4.

Tsukuba would be a track to test this on... seeing as we can pretty much replicate a drift battle in real life, on GT4.

This would prove that GT4's physics regarding Horse Power among other things is kind of... out of wack. (though we already know that).
This is all i can think this whole idea can acheive...except for just having a muck around.

i forgot to add, ill post up some of my settings tomorrow. ive got 3 or 4 s13's in my garage all modded for drift.

Sure, though get some inspiration, I had Silvia's in my garage before but the Silvia I'm doing currently is the only one I "made for D1GP". Thats one of the subjects you can choose, but you can also use Initial D or realistic LOOKING cars (although I think they should come with realistic settings).

luftrofl
Neocrox- I believe that D1GP doesn't permit AWD cars to compete. :(
If that is so, why are there 2 AWD Impreza's in the field from Taka Kaira? ;)

You're wrong man.. I've seen a video of the ADVAN car, and it is AWD!

Any of you tried my settings and work it out? I'm going to continue on them now untill I'm happy.

I need to watch out though, I had dozens of times where a car was almost and I mean ALMOST perfect but I adjusted something to make it PERFECT perfect and then I ruined the car and couldn't find my previous settings anymore.

Edit: I'm far from done though, I just made this save point for myself where I could get back onto but I only tested it on Grand Valley so far and it's having problems with the long corners after the first corner and the first corner itsself where I keep having gear problems...

no, he's right. There's no AWD in D1. Any car's that are traditionally AWD and competing in that series have the front driveline components uninstalled. The Yuke's Cusco and Advan Impreza you speak of was converted FR by JUN AutoMechanics.

if you're still unsure, have a look at this: http://www.d1gp.com/index.asp?PageAction=Custom&ID=15

always keep notes! or if you aren't gonna do that, then backup your settings into setting B or C so you can revert to them if your changes are no good.

Yeah I'll do that, actually I'm playing right now gimme a minute and I'll have the settings backed up.👍

I know you like tuning very very much so I guess you have more experience in those little things;)

Edit: Some pictures are in now, 2 actually but just for the feel, and the car looks great IMO btw:dopey:

Firstly, my apologies if i'm in the wrong place, there are so many theads on drifting I wasn't sure where to post :dunce: and this looked like a reasonable spot.

I'm tying to learn to both drift and shift simultaneously (Avid auto user taking the plunge), and was wondering if any of you pro's had any tips other than the obvious 'practice' which i'm already doing.

I decided to start with a fairly low hp FR car that I don't see discussed much in here because I like to be different ;)

Downside- not much in the way of settings available (and quite possibly with good reason lol) I'm tearing up Tsukuba with it, but if I actually get a good drift its mainly luck more than anything at this point. Mostly just spinning and/or stopping really.

The car: Nissan Bluebird 1600 Deluxe (510) '69
(FR, 187hp, 846kg) - actually the car feels like it can be quite good in more capable hands, despite its low hp and ...different looks.

Parts:
Oil change
Full weight reduction
Stabilizer & Refresher
Racing Muffler
Sport Chip
N2 Tires
Stage 2 Turbo
Brake Controller
Full Custom Transmission
Triple Plate Clutch
Racing Flywheel
Carbon Driveshaft
Full Custom LSD

Settings:
Transmission: Auto 8
Brakes 6/15
LSD: Default
Aids: Off

Suspension - (F/R)
Springs 3.8 / 5.0
Height 125 / 125
Bound 4 / 5
Rebound 8 / 9
Camber 3.1 / 1.5
Toe 1 / 1
Stabilizers 3 / 1

(Note: these settings I borrowed from 194GVan's settings for the
Nissan BLUEBIRD Hardtop 1800SSS (1979))

Well it's not an inspired drift car so it doesn't belong here but I dont like to be harsh on new members.

So lets give you some tips;) I think this car really uses weight shift to get itsself into a drift and if you spin it's probably your entry that makes you spin. In this set up at least.

First fact that you have to remember is that it's a used car and has not such a rigid body. So that means it allows for a bit more bodyroll and weight shift and stuff because the car isn't exactly solid and strong anymore. Thats how I think of it at least.

Then I would advice you not to set your bounce damper too low because it will allow for some extreme weight shift when you turn in. The feel of the car would be gone too, and you can notice it very good if you use a steering wheel by the force feedback dropping tremendously.

So set all dampers to 7. Bounce and Rebounce. Chamber is good, maybe 3.0/2.0 is better I dont know. And stabilizers should be 2/1 because 3/1 causes too much oversteer.

I would recommend to make the springs stiffer, to like 6.4/5.7 or something I dont know I'm just typing some numbers.

Try that:tup:

well in a way it's sort of inspired... all the video clips and drift discussions here at GTPlanet inspired me! As for the car itself - I was inspired by its ugliness and overall ridiculousness ;)

but thanks, i'll try adjusting the settings a bit according to your ideas :)

edit: or did you mean aspirated as in NA tuned? (as opposed to inspirated)

Yeha I keep making that mistake, no it's inspired:banghead: I already know I'm gonna make that mistake over and over again from now on, you guys better punish me.
