I know what you meant, I was just giving you a hard time. :)

You can stick any hard drive you want in there as long as it holds at least 40 GB. It will only recognize up to 137 GB, so anything above that is useless.

Instead of paying 100 bucks for a 40 GB HD, I opted to pay $85 for 120 gigabytes.

Sweet. Just read that of a forum from an quick google search..Should probably take this conversation somewhere else but one last thing. You just "attach" that 120gb HDD to the Network Adapter right?

This sucks (if true) i would never want to pay for more content in GT4, even though I probably would. Obviously this is a way for Sony to make a few more dollars and possible justify the use of the HDD.

Can any normal hard drive connect to the netwrk adaptor? I dont think i want to spend 100 bucks just for a few new "items".

Does it have to be new or can it be used with an operating system.

I have paid for extra content before, but that was on the PC and I could make a backup on CD. What happens if the HHD crashes and we loose this data that we have paid for. We need hard copies.

I say include it with the orginal game. At least it will be on DVD.

We need hard copies.

Edit: When I first wrote this post, it came off as fairly condescending. Let's try that again :)

You don't really need hard copies any more. Pretty much every game company these days is at least marginally obsessed with the concept of real-time content distribution linked to user accounts, if the activity in start-ups and attention from major game publishers is any indication.

Once you purchase this downloadable content, it's linked permanently to your user account. If your HDD crashes, you simply reformat, log back in, and 30 seconds later (on broadband) you have all your data back. There's not really any need for a physical copy of your 1's and 0's any more. Pretty much all of Xbox Live works like this, as does Steam, PlayOnline, and a variety of other content distribution systems coming to a computer and console near you. I think Sony would be stupid not to at least dry run the concepts in the current PS2 generation, which will definitely see a single Xbox Live-style membership system before its life is through. And GT4 is a perfect title to try downloads on.

Privacy! you scream. Relaying on their servers! you scream. Yeah, there's a lot of issues to be dealt with. But being able to indefinitely extend the revenue life of a game, as well as essentially eliminate piracy is far too attractive a proposition. In a world of pervasive internet...the bright idea of "keeping your own data" is rapidly dimming.

I certainly hope that they make GT4 stand on its own. I hear all of you who don't want to spend 150+ dollars on a HDD and a network adaptor for your console. I wouldn't want people who have the money to pay for extra hardware and content to be able to come along and thrash those who don't. But I also want Sony to keep up with the times and not get left behind - they should be leaders, not stick-in-the-muds. Nintendo continues to resist the pull of online gaming, while Microsoft rakes in cash hand over fist through Live. I don't want to see a Microsoft dominated gaming world. :nervous:

I am thinking if GT4 does require a HDD, or a large amount of content must/can be downloaded, Then I expect them (PD or Sony) to give us fair warning to buy a HDD and network adapter. I believe they havent meantioned much about online because its not a real important part of GT4, just another play option.

I realise we already have warning about the network adapter. We dont know for sure what kind of online content we will have. (eg. Online play, downloads, parts/cars/save game swaping, hosting photomode pics and movies)

WHAT ABOUT THE PEOPLE WHO DON'T HAVE A NETWORK ADAPTER, DON'T HAVE A PS2 HARD DRIVE, DON'T HAVE A ROUTER.........AND MOST OF ALL CAN'T!! BECAUSE ITS A VERSION 1 (scph 10000) Japanese PLAYSTATION 2 WHICH HAS A PC CARD SLOT INSTEAD OF A BIG HOLE, AND ITS NETWORK ADAPTER AND EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE ARE NOWHERE TO BE FOUND......AND THE PS2 LIVES IN ENGLAND!!!!!! :( :( :( :( :(

.......basically I'm screwed for any content PD are going to release.....I hope that they release some sort of expansion disks aswell for the "less fortunate" among us........

Then your **** out of luck!

lol j/k, I dont think the official downloadable content will be much, and I dont think youll have to depend on it much. I believe GT4 will be a full proper game and theres no real evidance that it wont be and lots that it will be.

Maybe not, you will still have the USB connection that might allow you to access downloadable content stored on your PC? No idea if that would work, but I don't see why not... :)

Anyway, VIPERGTSR01 is probably right... GT4 will be the full monty anyway, even without downloadable content, so you probably won't miss out on much! :D

I don't know why there is so much hostility to downloadable content. Even if you have to pay for it.

This is the way of the future.

No doubt some of those complaining will quite happily pay £2 to download a silly tune for there mobile phone, or pay £5 for a pay per view movie etc.

All of this downloadable content will be in addition to the stand alone game.

As for complaints about the PS2 HDD etc. These are a little short sighted. The PS3/Xbox 2 etc. will be the first machines were online play will be an integral part. The current console are just a tentative step in the water.

GT3 was released 2+ years ago now. Who wouldn't have liked to download an update pack etc. every 6 months with the latest cars and tracks. Even if it cost £5? Certainly beats paying £40+ for another GT wanabee game that turns out to be a dissapointment.

My only concern would be losing downloadable content due to a hard drive crash etc. But that fear has been allayed by an earlier post. So no problem.

I think its unfair to have to nearly pay half/quarter the cost of the console (£40) or so just so I then have to pay more and more for downloadable content. By the end of it I will have spend like £100 on just GT4 and its dowloadable extras.

Paying for downloadable content = Screwing the consumer out of more and more money!

.....I would like downloadable content......its just that I would have thought that paying £40 already would give me the right to do so freely!

Maybe there is someway of botching somthing together to make it work.....I have broadband......I just need to send it to the ps2 and maybe connect a hard drive to a pc card adaptor! :D

What about the people who live in areas where dial up is the only internet they can get? It would make downloading content a long and boring process.

Now to think of it, many games let you download content for free. NHL 2004 let you download updated rosters from EA's server. Maybe PD will aim for this as well...

WTF!!!!!!!11one

This is just whoring out the diehard loyal gran turismo fans like myself and milking us like we're dolly parton! well i have a newsflash for you walter cronkite, we're not!!!

^Yeah!........PD should treat its loyal fans with more respect rather than taking advantage of them!

robin: Sony are only ever going to support what they choose to produce and support - you buy outside that bracket, you do so at your own peril. Looks like you've been pwned by it.

Personally, I'd rather pay for downloads than wait another year and a half for the game to come out, then have another 3 year drought waiting for GT5. I'm all for it, as long as they don't cost excessive amounts.

The amount of money I'm going to end up spending on GT4 is probably going to be triple what my console is worth...The wheel, the game, the HDD, the downloads, Prologue, the swap disc...But you know what? It's the greatest game ever, so why not?

At one point, I would have been ready to dump $150 on the E3 '04 demo, so, yeah.

no-ones forcing anyone to buy the downloadable content (if it happens), if you feel theres not enough with the game as it sells in shops and you dont want to downoad then dont buy it (but you know the'll be plenty) and let the people who want a few more cars for a ittle more money get it.

In the Future of PS2 Showcase at E3 that this article is taken reference from, It was stated that the online future of the PS2 could possibly include features where Users could sell Items for a fee.
As an example, the guy said something like, take GT for example, someone could sell a car that is already tuned to another user for them to use.

At no time did he say anything about selling downloadable content from PD.

Basically they were just trying to suggest future uses for the online world of gaming.

PD were not on the stand at this press conference.

Time to start saving for a new one.

Hmmm, 199 Euros for a PS2, 110 Euros for a DFPro (plus 40 Euros for building my Cockpit), 40 Euros for a Network Adapter, 55 Euros for the Game itself, about 80-100 Euros for HDD, 30 Euros/monthly for Broadband, X Euros for downloads - makes up for a quite expensive game. :dunce:  👎

NO WAY SONY !!!

I simply cannot afford the Network Adaptor and HDD. So, if the downloadable content includes Ferrari or Porsche, I'll simply bomb PD's headquarters!!!

I will not pay for content if Sony go the way of a cash in, but I'm not going to worry just yet because there isn't any strong evidence of this happening. I never believe any hype that is written in a magazine anymore especially EGM mag, as they are a very bias mag in the favour of the box with the X on top :yuck: .

Just like I predicted! I speculated months ago that with the HDD add-on, It will be too good a chance for PD/Sony to pass on selling you virtual contents: Cars, Rims, Tracks, Sound Tracks, Video, Movies, Demos etc...

Anything that would make this game more enjoyable, I am all for it. I don't think we will have to worry about the price for now, as I am sure, PD and Sony had all the data regarding age groups and all that kinda stuff. So people without a Credit card, I am sure they have many ways to help you put your quarters in their slot! You got a cell phone right? lol, maybe they will tie it in with you cell phone bill, so your parents will be paying for those instead of you.

Here is more of my prediction, and you can quote me on this. It may not be happening in GT5 but I can see how GT will turn into a "subscription base" Racing game. Yeah, I am serious. Almost Like any MMORPG , all you stats, cars, garages will be totally online and you can access it anywhere with a PS(insert number here). Yeah, Anywhere. Don't forget the up coming PSP, the next gen could have 3G or more advance networks so you can continue to play your beloved GT using the same account on the go. No more playing chess with Grandpa! when you "have" to go visit them.

LOL, Sony hear that!? Hire me and I will make them bleed money. :dopey:

"I never believe any hype that is written in a magazine anymore"

Mags are rumour whores, well apart from PC Zone, they are ok by me :)

I won't be buying a HDD, but network adaptor..yeah probs
