Well, the baloon should keep rising until the lack of pressure in the upper atmosphere lets it expand tothepoint of bursting. Then the capsule should fall, but hopefully it has some sort of control that lets it move to a safe landing point, or it burns up.

The capsule will be released from the balloon and glide to the ground with a parachute (hopefully undamaged, the last one got destroyed). Not quite sure what happens to the ballon, maybe it'll drift into space or something. lol Good question.

It should measure 1.3 AA (Austrian Athletes).

He has a 25m² main chute that opens automatically in an emergency (10m² is the standard parachute size), a backup chute and a stabilizing chute so I think hes pretty safe from embedding himself in the earth crust.

The only problem could be violent spinning because of the lack of air that stabilizes his fall during the first 40 seconds, eventually leading to unconsciousness, cerebral hemorrhage and death.

And no, Kittinger did NOT break the sound barrier.
